PBL Round 8: Dynamo Kursk defeats Spartak Vidnoye in the game between Top 4 teams - Dec 17, 2012

Coincidentally all hosts won their games.

An interesting game for Dynamo Kursk (6-2) which hosted in Kursk one of their biggest challengers Spartak Vidnoye (5-3). Second ranked Dynamo Kursk had an easy win 76-55. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Spartak Vidnoye. The game was mostly controlled by Dynamo Kursk. Spartak Vidnoye managed to win third quarter 15-14. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded Spartak Vidnoye 53-42 including a 36-25 advantage in offensive rebounds. Dynamo Kursk looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists comparing to just 7 passes made by Spartak Vidnoye's players. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Dynamo Kursk made 8 blocks. The former international center Ekaterina Lisina (198-87) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 18 points and 12 rebounds. American center Michelle Snow (196-80, college: Tennessee, agency: LBM Management) contributed with 7 points, 9 rebounds and 7 assists for the winners. American Seimone Augustus (183-84, college: LSU) replied with 14 points and 6 rebounds for Spartak Vidnoye. Spartak Vidnoye's coach gave up on the game allowing to play ten players seeing no chance for a win. Dynamo Kursk maintains second position with 6-2 record having just two points less than leader UMMC, which they share with Dynamo M. Spartak Vidnoye at the other side keeps the fourth place with three games lost. They share the position with Nadezhda O.. Dynamo Kursk is looking forward to face Energy Ivanovo (#9) on the road in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Spartak Vidnoye will play against the league's leader UMMC Ekaterinburg (#1) and is hoping to prove to their fans that the loss was just an accident.
An interesting game for UMMC Ekaterinburg (8-0) which hosted in Ekaterinburg 4th ranked Nadezhda Orenburg (5-3). Top-ranked UMMC Ekaterinburg had an easy win 84-64. Worth to mention a great performance of Italian-American Diana Taurasi (183-82, college: Connecticut) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 22 points and 13 assists and Sandrine Gruda who added 18 points and 8 rebounds during the contest. UMMC Ekaterinburg's coach Olaf Lange allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. The former international Natalia Zhedik (184-88) responded with 15 points. Undefeated UMMC Ekaterinburg have an impressive eight-game winning streak. Defending champion maintains first position with 8-0 record. Nadezhda Orenburg at the other side keeps the fourth place with three games lost. They share the position with Spartak V MR. UMMC Ekaterinburg will play against Spartak Vidnoye (#5) on the road in the next round. Nadezhda Orenburg will play against BC Rostov and hopes to get back on the winning track.

Spartak Noginsk will meet at home higher ranked Vologda-Chevakata (#6) in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Dynamo-GUVD will play against Dynamo Moscow and hope to secure a win.

In the last two games of round 8 Energy Ivanovo was beaten by Chevakata on the road 58-53. Dynamo M. won against Rostov on its own court 59-52.



Chevakata - Energy Ivanovo 58-53

Everything could happen at the game between two tied teams. Both sixth ranked Vologda-Chevakata and 7th ranked Energy Ivanovo had identical 2-5 record. This time Vologda-Chevakata used a home court advantage and beat the opponent from Ivanovo 58-53 on Monday night. Energy Ivanovo was tied after three quarters but could not keep up in the last quarter eventually losing the game. Vologda-Chevakata forced 24 Energy Ivanovo turnovers. The winners were led by American forward Glory Johnson (190-90, college: Tennessee) who scored that evening 14 points and 8 rebounds and naturalized Uzbekistani center Juliya Kiseleva (200-85) supported her with 13 points and 5 rebounds. Even 18 points and 8 rebounds by forward Olga Ovcharenko (186-79) did not help to save the game for Energy Ivanovo. Center Olga Gorbacheva (194-88, agency: LBM Management) added 8 points and 9 rebounds for the guests. Energy Ivanovo's coach Aleksander Krutikov rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Vologda-Chevakata maintains sixth position with 3-5 record. Newly promoted Energy Ivanovo keeps the seventh place with six games lost. They share the position with Dynamo-GUVD and Spartak N.. Vologda-Chevakata will meet Spartak Noginsk (#7) on the road in the next round. Energy Ivanovo will play against the league's second-placed Dynamo Kursk and hope to secure a win.

Dynamo M. - Rostov 59-52

Very expected game when 10th ranked BC Rostov (1-7) lost on the road to third ranked Dynamo Moscow (6-2) 59-52 on Monday. The hosts trailed by 5 points at the halftime before their 35-23 charge in the second half, which allowed them to win the game. Dynamo Moscow forced 27 BC Rostov turnovers. The winners were led by international center Tatiana Vidmer (191-86) who scored that evening 8 points and 8 rebounds and international center Nadezhda Grishaeva (195-89) supported her with 8 points and 7 rebounds. Even 9 points by guard Olga Vorobyeva (180-87, agency: LBM Management) did not help to save the game for BC Rostov. Serbian forward Dragana Gobeljic (185-88) added 11 points for the guests. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Dynamo Moscow moved-up to second place, which they share with Dynamo K. Newly promoted BC Rostov stay at the bottom position with seven games lost. Dynamo Moscow will meet Dynamo-GUVD (#8) in the next round where they are favorite. BC Rostov will play against Nadezhda Orenburg.

Kazanochka Kazan (PBL) signed 30-year old international forward Kristina Alikina (187-86, agency: Stanislav Ryzhov). It is actually her comeback to Kazan as she has played here before. Kazanochka Kazan (PBL) added to their roster 28-year old guard Maria Savina (188-88). She played last season at Chevakata in the PBL. In 27 games she recorded 3.2ppg and 1.4rpg. Savina also played 6 games in Eurocup where she averaged just 2.7ppg and 3.5rpg. The previous (14-15) season she played at Energy Ivanovo. In 22 games she had 9.2ppg and 2.8rpg. MBA Moscow (PBL) agreed terms with 21-year old power forward Polina Fedorova (189-95) from Kazanochka. In 5 PBL games she had 7.8ppg, 5.6rpg, 1.2apg and 1.0spg last season. Fedorova also played that season for Energy Ivanovo where in 16 games she recorded 9.2ppg, 7.0rpg and 1.0apg. She also played 6 games in Eurocup where she averaged 8.8ppg and 6.8rpg.
