Undefeated CSKA Moscow (7-1) recorded its first loss in Khimki on Thursday night. Visitors were defeated by second ranked Khimky (5-2) 75-70. It ended at the same time the five-game winning streak of CSKA Moscow. It may be a crucial game in the contest for the top position in the league. The hosts trailed by 2 points after three quarters before their 24-17 charge, which allowed them to win the game. Khimky made 16-of-18 free shots (88.9 percent) during the game. The best player for the winners was Croatian-Bosnian guard Zoran Planinic (198-82) who scored 20 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists. International Sergey Monya (202-83) chipped in 12 points and 12 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was Serbian center Nenad Krstic (212-83) who recorded a double-double by scoring 17 points and 10 rebounds. CSKA Moscow's coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Khimky have an impressive series of five victories in a row. They maintain second place with 5-2 record having just three points less than leader CSKA. Defending champion CSKA Moscow still keeps top position with one game lost. Khimky are looking forward to face Lokomotiv (#4) in Kuban in the next round. CSKA Moscow will play at home against Krasnie Krilya in Samara and is hoping to win this game.

Unics Kazan's coach Aco Petrovic felt very confident that he used 11 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. International Sergey Karasev (202-93) answered with 22 points and 5 assists for Triumph Lyubertsy. Unics Kazan moved-up to seventh place. Triumph Lyubertsy at the other side dropped to the fifth position with six games lost. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.
The game in Vladivostok was also quite interesting. Sixth ranked Spartak St.Petersburg (5-3) played at the court of 7th ranked Spartak-Prim. (2-4). Spartak St.Petersburg did not have too big problems and got a relatively easy victory 77-60 on Wednesday. Patrick Beverley stepped up and scored 14 points for the winners. The best for the losing side was Troy Gillenwater with 19 points and 7 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Spartak St.Petersburg moved-up to third place. Loser Spartak-Prim. dropped to the eighth position with four games lost. Spartak St.Petersburg will meet at home BC Nizhny Novgorod (#9) in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Spartak-Prim. will have a break next round.



Unics - Triumph 93-68

Very important is a road loss of third ranked Triumph Lyubertsy (3-6) against eighth ranked Unics Kazan (3-4) on Friday night. Visiting Triumph Lyubertsy was crushed by Unics Kazan in Kazan 93-68. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Triumph Lyubertsy. The game without a history. Unics Kazan led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 24 assists comparing to just 9 passes made by Triumph Lyubertsy's players. It was a good game for American-FYR Macedonian forward Michael Wilkinson (204-81, college: Wisconsin, agency: Interperformances) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 15 points and 10 rebounds. Greek power forward Ian Vougioukas (212-85, college: St.Louis) contributed with 18 points and 5 rebounds for the winners. Four Unics Kazan players scored in double figures. Unics Kazan's coach Aco Petrovic felt very confident that he used 11 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. BC Nizhny Novgorod (VTB) added to their roster 22-year old international forward Nikita Zverev (207-90kg-94). He is not a newcomer in Russian League as he played last season at Stroitiel Engels in Russian Superleague 2. In 23 games Zverev recorded 13.8ppg, 8.1rpg (#3 in the league), 1.4apg, 1.1spg and 1.2bpg. He helped them to make it to the semifinals.
