Zoran Planinic gets MVP of the Week award for Russian PBL - Dec 22, 2012

Zoran
Planinic
Croatian-Bosnia and Herzegovina Zoran Planinic (198-G-82) had a great game in the last round for league's second-best Khimky and that's him to receive a Eurobasket.com Player of the Week award for round 9.
The 30-year old guard had the game-high 20 points adding five rebounds and six assists for Khimky in his team's victory, helping them to beat CSKA (#1, 7-1) 75-70. The game was between two of the league's top four teams. Khimky maintains the 2nd position in Russian PBL. They would have been even better if they did not have these two lost games earlier in Regular Season. Khimky will need more victories to improve their 5-2 record. In the team's last game Planinic had a remarkable 66.7% from 2-point range. He has many years of experience at Khimky, through which he has constantly improved. Planinic has impressive league stats. He is in league's top in points (6th best: 14.5ppg), assists (2nd best: 4.5apg) and averages solid 55.3% FGP.

The second most remarkable performance in last round's games was 29-year old Serbian center Nenad Krstic (212-C-83) of league's best team CSKA. Krstic impressed basketball fans with a double-double of 17 points and 10 rebounds. Bad luck as CSKA lost that game 70-75 to slightly lower-ranked Khimky (#2, 5-2). It was definitely game of the week between two contenders to the title. CSKA still maintains its place as the top team in the standings, even despite this loss. It was just his team's 1st loss this season, while they won 7 other games. Krstic is well-known by CSKA fans and he already established his position as one of team's most reliable players.

The third best performed player last round was international guard Sergey Karasev (202-SG-93) of Triumph (#5). Karasev scored 22 points and passed five assists. Despite Karasev's great performance Triumph lost 68-93 to slightly lower-ranked Unics (#7, 3-4). But his team cannot count on just a single player as he also needs help of the other teammates. The chances of Triumph not to end season at such low position in the league, however are less than slim as they have already lost 6 games, recording just three victories. With bigger assistance of his teammates, Karasev could try to bring Triumph's a little bit higher in the standings. Karasev has individually a great season in Russia. After only 6 games, he made it on the list of the league's leaders in points with 18.7ppg (best scorer) and rebounds with 6.3rpg (8th best).

Other top performing players last week:
4. Michael Wilkinson (204-F-81) of Unics - 15 points, 10 rebounds and 3 assists
5. Devin Searcy (208-F/C-89) of Triumph - 15 points and 10 rebounds
6. Sergey Monya (202-PF-83) of Khimky - 12 points, 12 rebounds and 2 assists
7. Ian Vougioukas (212-C/F-85) of Unics - 18 points, 5 rebounds and 3 assists
8. Kostas Kaimakoglou (206-C/F-83) of Unics - 19 points, 3 rebounds and 3 assists
9. Zack Wright (195-G-85) of Spartak SP - 9 points, 4 rebounds and 6 assists
10. Michael Efevberha (197-G-84) of Spartak-Prim. - 11 points and 6 rebounds

The Player of the week is choosen based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc.
The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it's accuracy.
The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3*(REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) - 2*BSAG - 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4*(2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM - 3*(2FGPA-2FGPM) - 3*(3FGPA-3FGPM) - (FTA-FTM)
