The most surprising game was the first loss of undefeated UMMC Ekaterinburg (8-1) on the court of fifth ranked Spartak Vidnoye on Saturday night. Visitors were defeated by Spartak Vidnoye 87-82. It ended at the same time the eight-game winning streak of UMMC Ekaterinburg. UMMC Ekaterinburg was trailing by 6 points at halftime but managed to get 4-point lead after three quarters before a 24-15 charge of Spartak Vidnoye, which allowed them to win the game. They made 18-of-22 free shots (81.8 percent) during the game. American power forward Candice Dupree (188-84, college: Temple, agency: LBM Management) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 18 points, 14 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners and the former international point guard Becky Hammon (175-77, college: Colorado St., agency: Josep and Nicolas) chipped in 17 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists. The best for the losing side was American center Candace Parker (193-86, college: Tennessee) with 33 points (!!!) and 8 rebounds. UMMC Ekaterinburg's coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Spartak Vidnoye (6-3) moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Nadezhda O. Defending champion UMMC Ekaterinburg still keeps top position with one game lost. Spartak Vidnoye is looking forward to face Energy Ivanovo (#9) at home in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. UMMC Ekaterinburg will play against BC Rostov (#10) and is hoping to win this game.
The game in Noginsk was also worth to mention about. Sixth ranked Vologda-Chevakata (4-5) played at the court of 7th ranked Spartak Noginsk (2-7). Vologda-Chevakata managed to secure a 7-point victory 71-64. American forward Glory Johnson (190-90, college: Tennessee) nailed a double-double by scoring 17 points and 10 rebounds for the winning side and Katerina Snytsina accounted for 19 points and 4 steals. Vologda-Chevakata's coach Dmitry Donskov allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. Guard Maria Merzliakova (178-86) came up with 20 points and 5 rebounds for Spartak Noginsk in the defeat. Vologda-Chevakata maintains sixth place with 4-5 record. Spartak Noginsk at the other side keeps the seventh position with seven games lost. They share it with Dynamo-GUVD and Energy Ivanovo. Vologda-Chevakata will play against higher ranked Dynamo Moscow (#3) on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Spartak Noginsk will play against the league's second-placed Dynamo Kursk (#2) and hopes to get back on the winning track.

Dynamo Moscow's coach Vladimir Shtam used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. At the other side the best for losing team was Yvonne Turner who recorded 33 points (!!!) and 7 assists. Dynamo Moscow have a solid series of three victories in a row. They moved-up to second place, which they share with Dynamo K. Dynamo-GUVD lost fifth consecutive game. They dropped to the seventh position with seven games lost. They share it with Spartak N. and Energy Ivanovo. Dynamo Moscow will meet at home Vologda-Chevakata (#6) in the next round. Dynamo-GUVD will play against Nadezhda Orenburg and hope to secure a win.
Fourth ranked Nadezhda Orenburg (6-3) crushed at home 10th ranked BC Rostov (1-8) by 38 points 82-44, which is the biggest margin this round. It was a good game for Iva Perovanovic who led her team to a victory with 15 points and 6 assists (on 7-of-8 shooting from the field). The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Nadezhda Orenburg maintains fourth place with 6-3 record, which they share with Spartak V MR. Newly promoted BC Rostov stay at the bottom position with eight games lost. Nadezhda Orenburg's next round opponent will be Dynamo-GUVD (#8) in Novosibirsk. BC Rostov will play on the road against the league's leader UMMC Ekaterinburg.

In the last game of round 9 Dynamo K. won against Energy Ivanovo on the opponent's court 83-66.


Spartak N. - Chevakata 64-71

The game in Noginsk was also worth to mention about. Sixth ranked Vologda-Chevakata (4-5) played at the court of 7th ranked Spartak Noginsk (2-7). Vologda-Chevakata managed to secure a 7-point victory 71-64. The guests started the game with a very strong first quarter 20-11. But Spartak Noginsk won second period 17-14. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Vologda-Chevakata forced 20 Spartak Noginsk turnovers. Strangely Spartak Noginsk outrebounded Vologda-Chevakata 50-30 including a 23-10 advantage in defensive rebounds. Spartak Noginsk was plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. American forward Glory Johnson (190-90, college: Tennessee) nailed a double-double by scoring 17 points and 10 rebounds for the winning side and Kazakhstan-Belarusian forward Katerina Snytsina (188-85) accounted for 19 points and 4 steals. Dynamo Moscow forced 19 Dynamo-GUVD turnovers. The best player for the winners was American power forward Crystal Langhorne (188-86, college: Maryland) who scored 17 points and 8 rebounds. Very expected game when 9th ranked Energy Ivanovo (2-7) was defeated at home by second ranked Dynamo Kursk (7-2) 83-66. Dynamo Moscow (PBL) strengthened their roster with addition of 25-year old Russian point guard Victoria Mazur (164-92). She played last season at Suduva in Lithuanian LMKL. Dynamo Moscow (PBL) confirmed in their roster 24-year old forward Ekaterina Ryabova (183-93). She has played there for the last two seasons. In 25 PBL games she was fourth best scorer with 3.2ppg and had 2.5rpg last season. Ryabova helped them to make it to the semifinals.
