PBL Round 10: CSKA Moscow beats Krasnie Krilya by three after a very close game - Dec 23, 2012

Host teams show no mercy winning all games.

Sixth-ranked Krasnie Krilya (4-3) was very close to win a game against first ranked CSKA Moscow (8-1) on Sunday. CSKA Moscow managed to secure only three-point victory 75-72. However their fans expected much easier game. The hosts trailed by 1 point at the halftime before their 35-31 charge in the second half, which allowed them to win the game. CSKA Moscow made 19-of-22 free shots (86.4 percent) during the game. CSKA Moscow had a 26-15 advantage in offensive rebounds. 27 personal fouls committed by Krasnie Krilya helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. Worth to mention a great performance of the former international forward Viktor Khryapa (203-82) who helped to win the game recording 12 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists. Serbian center Nenad Krstic (212-83) contributed with 20 points (perfect from the field making all eight shots !!!) for the winners. American guard Chester Simmons (196-82, college: Washington) replied with 19 points and 5 rebounds for Krasnie Krilya. Krasnie Krilya's coach Sergey Bazarevich rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Defending champion maintains first position with 8-1 record. Krasnie Krilya at the other side dropped to the fourth place with three games lost. CSKA Moscow are looking forward to face bottom-ranked Enisey Krasnoyarsk (#10) at home in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Krasnie Krilya will have a break next round.
An interesting game for Khimky (6-2) which hosted in Khimki 4th ranked Lokomotiv (4-5). Second ranked Khimky managed to get a 4-point victory 104-100. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Lokomotiv. Croatian-Bosnian guard Zoran Planinic (198-82) had a double-double by scoring 20 points and 12 assists (made all of his seven free throws) to lead the charge for the winners and Vitaliy Fridzon chipped in 22 points during the contest. At the losing side American-Greek point guard Nick Calathes (198-89, college: Florida) responded with a double-double by scoring 33 points (!!!) and 10 assists (on 13-of-16 shooting from the field). Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Khimky have an impressive six-game winning streak. They maintain second position with 6-2 record having just three points less than leader CSKA. Lokomotiv at the other side dropped to the fifth place with five games lost. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.

Even 20 points by Primoz Brezec did not help to save the game for BC Nizhny Novgorod. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. Spartak St.Petersburg maintains third position with 6-3 record having just two points less than leader CSKA. Loser BC Nizhny Novgorod keeps the ninth place with six games lost. Spartak St.Petersburg will meet Unics Kazan (#6) on the road in the next round. BC Nizhny Novgorod will have a break next round.



Spartak SP - N.Novgorod 68-67

Ninth-ranked BC Nizhny Novgorod (2-6) was very close to win a game against third ranked Spartak St.Petersburg (6-3) on Sunday. Spartak St.Petersburg managed to secure only one-point victory 68-67. However their fans expected much easier game. The hosts trailed by 8 points at the halftime before their 21-10 charge in the third quarter, which allowed them to win the game. American point guard Patrick Beverley (185-88, college: Arkansas) notched 10 points, 5 rebounds and 8 assists to lead the effort and Greek center Loukas Mavrokefalidis (207-84) supported him with 11 points and 5 rebounds. Even 20 points by Slovenian power forward Primoz Brezec (216-79) did not help to save the game for BC Nizhny Novgorod. American swingman Dijon Thompson (201-83, college: UCLA) added 15 points and 7 rebounds for lost side. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. Spartak St.Petersburg maintains third position with 6-3 record having just two points less than leader CSKA. Loser BC Nizhny Novgorod keeps the ninth place with six games lost. An interesting game for Khimky (6-2) which hosted in Khimki 4th ranked Lokomotiv (4-5). Second ranked Khimky managed to get a 4-point victory 104-100. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Lokomotiv. Khimky made 24-of-28 charity shots (85.7 percent) during the game. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 22 assists. Lokomotiv was plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. Avtodor Saratov (VTB) landed 23-year old international center Artem Klimenko (214-114kg-94). It is actually his comeback to Saratov as he has played here before. BC Khimki Moscow Region (VTB) re-signed 29-year old international guard Alexey Shved (198-73kg-88, agency: Alti Sport). He has played there for the last two seasons. In 14 Eurocup games he recorded very impressive stats: 22.1ppg, 4.0rpg, 5.2apg and 1.2spg last season. Shved helped them to make it to the quarterfinals. Khimky-Podmoskovye Moscow Region (Superleague 1) re-signed 21-year old center Rodion Ardislamov (215-102kg-96). He played there last season. But in three Superleague 1 games he averaged just 1.3ppg. He played in the final of Russian VTB Youth League. The previous (15-16) season Ardislamov played at Dynamo-CBK Stavropol (Superleague 2) where in 30 games he had 5.7ppg and 3.2rpg.
