Jaka Lakovic may be added to Spartak St.Petersburg roster - Dec 24, 2012

Spartak St.Petersburg (PBL) is close to ink 34-year old Slovenian ex-international guard Jaka Lakovic (186-78) who currently plays Galatasaray Medical Park Istanbul in Turkey. But in 5 TBL games this season he averaged just 1.6ppg. Lakovic also played 4 games in Eurocup where he had 3.3ppg and 1.3apg. The last season he played also at Galatasaray in Turkish TBL. In 35 games last year he had 10.5ppg, 1.7rpg and 2.9apg. He helped them to win the cup and make to league semifinals. A very good season in his career as he was selected to Eurobasket.com Turkish League All-Bosmans Team and to the All-Star Game. Lakovic also played 19 games in Euroleague where he had 9.9ppg, 1.8rpg and 2.7apg. Among other achievements He won Spanish ACB championship title in 2011. Lakovic received also Eurobasket.com All-Greek League Player of the Year award and Eurobasket.com All-Greek League Bosman Player of the Year award back in 2005. He represented Slovenia at the European Championships in Lithuania last year. His stats at that event were 11 games: 9.5ppg, 2.0rpg, 3.0apg, FGP: 30.8%, 3PT: 38.6%, FT: 81.5%. Lakovic has played previously professionally in Spain (Regal FC Barcelona) and Slovenia (Krka and Geoplin Slovan).

Nizhny Novgorod extends contract with Zoran Lukic for 2 more years - May 23, 2013
BC Nizhny Novgorod has extended the contract of their Serbian head coach - Zoran Lukic for two more years.

Lukic,who is in BC Nizhny Novgorod from the 2008/09 season was delighted to continue with the club:"To be honest, I had some options for future employment . But I gave too much for the establishment of "BC Nizhny Novgorod" in Russian basketball and continue to see the huge potential there is in our team.In such a situation, to me personally, it is interesting to continue this work at the club. In finishing the season with the guys we have made a good step forward and should continue to progress in our results. Now we have coming off-season, but we have to work hard to improve the team for next season".

American-Ukrainian guard Steven Burtt (185-84, college: Iona, agency: Stanislav Ryzhov) notched 20 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists to lead the effort and point guard Ivan Strebkov (192-91) supported him with 18 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. Even a double-double of 19 points and 12 rebounds (was perfect 9-for-9 from the free throw line !!!) by center Alexey Kurtsevich (209-89) did not help to save the game for Ataman. Alexei Nesterov (204-88) added 19 points and 5 rebounds for the guests. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Ural Ekaterinburg tied Superleague Finals at 1-1. Ural Ekaterinburg led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They made 28-of-36 free shots (77.8 percent) during the game. 29 personal fouls committed by Universitet-Yugra helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. American guard Chris Monroe (191-81, college: G.Washington) had a double-double by scoring 27 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists to lead the charge for the winners and the other American import power forward Aaron McGhee (203-79, college: Oklahoma) chipped in 19 points and 6 rebounds during the contest. Lithuanian point guard Linas Lekavicius (186-84, college: American) responded with a double-double by scoring 16 points and 12 rebounds and guard Anton Ageev (192-84) scored 20 points (was perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line). Four Universitet-Yugra players scored in double figures. Universitet-Yugra's coach rotated eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Unics announced their decision not to renew the contract of head coach Stanislav Eremin . The specialist took over the Kazan team in February. He replaced Aco Petrovic . However Unics finished in just the fifth position in PBL regular season. They also surrendered againt Lokomotiv Kuban at the quarterfinal stage of the VTB League. On top of it Unics lost to Valencia in the first round of EuroCup playoffs. [read more]
