PBL Round 11: Dynamo Moscow beats Dynamo Kursk by three after a very close game - Jan 20, 2013

The most exciting game of round 11 in the PBL took place in Moscow. This derby game ended with only three-point defeat on the road of 3rd placed Dynamo Kursk (7-3) to second ranked Dynamo Moscow (9-2) 78-75 in the game for the second place. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Dynamo Kursk. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Dynamo Kursk won fourth quarter 18-16. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. American players dominated the game. point guard Kristi Toliver (170-87, college: Maryland) orchestrated the victory by scoring 21 points and 7 assists (was perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line). Power forward Crystal Langhorne (188-86, college: Maryland) contributed with 19 points and 11 rebounds for the winners. Dynamo Moscow's coach Vladimir Shtam used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. Center Michelle Snow (196-80, college: Tennessee, agency: LBM Management) answered with a double-double by scoring 12 points and 13 rebounds for Dynamo Kursk. Dynamo Moscow have an impressive series of five victories in a row. They maintain second place with 9-2 record behind leader UMMC. Dynamo Kursk at the other side keeps the third position with three games lost. They share it with Spartak V MR. Dynamo Moscow are looking forward to face Spartak Vidnoye (#4) on the road in the next round. Dynamo Kursk will play against Nadezhda Orenburg and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
PBL top team - UMMC Ekaterinburg (10-1) had no problems winning another game. This time they crushed eighth ranked Energy Ivanovo (2-9) 86-56. It was a great evening for the former international center Maria Stepanova (202-79) who led her team to a victory scoring 13 points and 7 rebounds. Sandrine Gruda helped adding 9 points and 9 rebounds. Center Olga Zhuzhgova (203-88) responded with 12 points. Energy Ivanovo's coach Aleksander Krutikov gave up on the game allowing to play ten players seeing no chance for a win. Defending champion maintains first place with 10-1 record. Energy Ivanovo lost their fourth game in a row. Newly promoted team dropped to the ninth position with nine games lost. UMMC Ekaterinburg will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Energy Ivanovo will play at home against Spartak Noginsk (#8) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
The game in Vologda was also quite interesting. 4th placed Nadezhda Orenburg (7-4) played at the court of sixth ranked Vologda-Chevakata (5-6). Vologda-Chevakata defeated Nadezhda Orenburg 73-61 on Sunday. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Nadezhda Orenburg. It was an exceptional evening for Glory Johnson who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 31 points and 17 rebounds. Renee Montgomery came up with 12 points and 8 rebounds for Nadezhda Orenburg in the defeat. Vologda-Chevakata maintains sixth place with 5-6 record. Loser Nadezhda Orenburg dropped to the fifth position with four games lost. Vologda-Chevakata will meet bottom-ranked BC Rostov (#10) on the road in the next round. Nadezhda Orenburg will play against Dynamo Kursk (#3) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

In the last game of round 11 bottom-ranked Rostov was smashed by Dynamo-GUVD on the road 64-43.



Dynamo M. - Dynamo K. 78-75

No shocking result in a game when eighth ranked Dynamo-GUVD (3-8) crushed bottom-ranked BC Rostov (1-10) in Novosibirsk 64-43 on Sunday. The game without a history. Dynamo-GUVD led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated on the defensive end, holding BC Rostov to just 5 points in fourth quarter. Dynamo-GUVD held BC Rostov to an opponent 25.0 percent shooting from the field compared to 38.7 percent accuracy of the winners. They outrebounded BC Rostov 49-37 including a 38-27 advantage in offensive rebounds. It was an exceptional evening for the former international center Natalia Myasoedova (196-87) who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 18 points and 11 rebounds. American guard Yvonne Turner (174-87, college: Nebraska, agency: Regeneracom Sports) accounted for 12 points and 5 assists for the winning side. Swingman Elena Pavlova (185-89) came up with 13 points and 7 rebounds and Serbian forward Dragana Gobeljic (185-88) added 9 points and 7 rebounds respectively for BC Rostov in the defeat. UMMC Ekaterinburg led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Energy Ivanovo to just 7 points in third quarter. UMMC Ekaterinburg dominated down low during the game scoring 58 of its points in the paint compared to Energy Ivanovo's 36 and made 16-of-21 charity shots (76.2 percent) during the game. UMMC Ekaterinburg forced 21 Energy Ivanovo turnovers and outrebounded them 41-24 including a 17-4 advantage in defensive rebounds. UMMC - Nadezhda 75:65 UMMC defended UMMC Cup title. They beat Nadezhda for the fifth straight trophy. Nika Baric (169-PG-92) posted 21 points to lead the hosts.
