The most exciting game of round 14 in the PBL took place in Kuban. This derby game ended with only one-point defeat on the road of 6th ranked BC Nizhny Novgorod (4-7) to fifth ranked Lokomotiv (5-5) 75-74 on Sunday evening. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of BC Nizhny Novgorod. The hosts trailed by 4 points at the halftime before their 24-14 charge in the third quarter, which allowed them to win the game. They outrebounded BC Nizhny Novgorod 38-26 including a 29-18 advantage in defensive rebounds. 28 personal fouls committed by BC Nizhny Novgorod helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. American-Greek point guard Nick Calathes (198-89, college: Florida) scored 22 points and 9 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and Australian center Aleks Maric (211-84, college: Nebraska) chipped in 10 points and 10 rebounds during the contest. Lokomotiv's coach Evgeny Pashutin used entire bench in such tough game. American swingman Dijon Thompson (201-83, college: UCLA) responded with 17 points and 9 rebounds. Lokomotiv moved-up to fourth place. BC Nizhny Novgorod at the other side keeps the sixth position with seven games lost. Lokomotiv are looking forward to face bottom-ranked Enisey Krasnoyarsk (#10) on the road in the next round where they are favorite. BC Nizhny Novgorod will play against Triumph Lyubertsy (#8) in Lubertsy and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

International guard Vitaliy Fridzon (195-85, agency: Alti Sport) notched 25 points (on 9-of-11 shooting from the field) to lead the effort and Paul Davis supported him with 11 points and 6 rebounds. Even 17 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists (on 8-of-9 shooting from the field) by American-Bosnian guard Zack Wright (195-85, college: Central Mo.) did not help to save the game for Spartak St.Petersburg. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Khimky have an impressive eight-game winning streak. They maintain second position with 8-2 record having five points less than leader CSKA. Spartak St.Petersburg at the other side keeps the third place with five games lost. Khimky will play against Unics Kazan (#9) on the road in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Spartak St.Petersburg will have a break next round.
PBL top team - CSKA Moscow (11-1) managed to deliver another win on Thursday. This time they beat eighth ranked Unics Kazan (3-7) 89-79. Chuck Eidson produced 26 points and 5 rebounds (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field) for the guests. CSKA Moscow have a solid four-game winning streak. Defending champion maintains first position with 11-1 record. Unics Kazan lost third consecutive game. They dropped to the ninth place with seven games lost. CSKA Moscow will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Unics Kazan will play against the league's second-placed Khimky (#2) in Khimki and hope to secure a win.



CSKA - Unics 89-79

PBL top team - CSKA Moscow (11-1) managed to deliver another win on Thursday. This time they beat eighth ranked Unics Kazan (3-7) 89-79. The hosts were tied at the half but managed to speed up in last two quarters eventually winning the game. CSKA Moscow shot 60.4 percent from the field. CSKA Moscow outrebounded Unics Kazan 30-18 including a 26-14 advantage in defensive rebounds. It was a great shooting night for CSKA Moscow especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 55.0 percentage. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. The best player for the winners was Serbian center Nenad Krstic (212-83) who scored 16 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field). Serbian forward Vladimir Micov (201-85, agency: Beo Basket) chipped in 14 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. Four CSKA Moscow players scored in double figures. CSKA Moscow's coach Ettore Messina let to play all 12 players and allowed the starting five to rest. The game between Top Four teams took place in Khimki. Second ranked host Khimky (8-2) defeated one of their biggest challengers Spartak St.Petersburg (7-5) 72-60. The game was mostly controlled by Khimky. Spartak St.Petersburg was better in fourth quarter 24-18. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Spartak St.Petersburg to just 5 points in first quarter. Khimky made 17-of-19 charity shots (89.5 percent) during the game. They also forced 19 Spartak St.Petersburg turnovers and outrebounded them 32-21 including a 27-14 advantage in defensive rebounds. International guard Vitaliy Fridzon (195-85, agency: Alti Sport) notched 25 points (on 9-of-11 shooting from the field) to lead the effort and American center Paul Davis (211-84, college: Michigan St.) supported him with 11 points and 6 rebounds. PSK Sakhalin Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk (Superleague 1) landed 29-year old center Daniil Solovev (210-108kg-87). Solovev managed to play in three leagues last year (!!!). He played most recently at Zenit in Russian VTB league. VTB was a little too high level for him, where in only one Eurocup game he had just 1 point, 3 rebounds and 1 assist.
