PBL Round 14: Spartak Noginsk beats Dynamo Moscow by three after a very close game - Feb 12, 2013

The most exciting game of round 14 in the PBL took place in Noginsk. This derby game ended with only three-point defeat on the road of second-ranked Dynamo Moscow (10-4) to ninth ranked Spartak Noginsk (3-9) 77-74 on Sunday evening. It was quite big embarassment for the guest team. Dynamo Moscow trailed by 13 points after 3 quarters before a 22-12 run in the last quarter cut the deficit to 74-77 at the end of the game. Spartak Noginsk looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists comparing to just 11 passes made by Dynamo Moscow's players. Guard Maria Merzliakova (178-86) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 23 points, 5 rebounds and 11 assists. Center Anna Tolikova (190-86) contributed with 17 points and 12 rebounds for the winners. American point guard Kristi Toliver (170-87, college: Maryland) replied with 26 points for Dynamo Moscow. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Spartak Noginsk moved-up to eighth place. Dynamo Moscow at the other side keeps the second position with four games lost. They share it with Nadezhda O.. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.
PBL top team - UMMC Ekaterinburg (12-1) managed to deliver another win. This time they beat sixth ranked Vologda-Chevakata (6-8) 77-64. American center Candace Parker (193-86, college: Tennessee) scored 24 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists to lead the charge for the winners and Sandrine Gruda chipped in 14 points and 7 rebounds during the contest. Naturalized Uzbekistani center Juliya Kiseleva (200-85) responded with a double-double by scoring 11 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists. Both coaches tested many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. UMMC Ekaterinburg have a solid four-game winning streak. Defending champion maintains first position with 12-1 record. Vologda-Chevakata at the other side keeps the sixth place with eight games lost. UMMC Ekaterinburg will play against Dynamo-GUVD (#7) in Novosibirsk in the next round where they are favorite. Vologda-Chevakata will have a break next round.
The game in Ivanovo was also quite interesting. Third ranked Nadezhda Orenburg (10-4) played at the court of 8th ranked Energy Ivanovo (3-11). Nadezhda Orenburg managed to secure a 6-point victory 73-67 on Sunday. DeWanna Bonner notched a double-double by scoring 18 points and 13 rebounds to lead the effort. Even a double-double of 12 points and 10 rebounds by Olga Gorbacheva did not help to save the game for Energy Ivanovo. Energy Ivanovo's coach Aleksander Krutikov rotated eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Nadezhda Orenburg have a solid three-game winning streak. They moved-up to second place, which they share with Dynamo M. Newly promoted Energy Ivanovo dropped to the ninth position with 11 games lost. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.

Dynamo Kursk will have a break next round. Dynamo-GUVD will play at home against the league's leader UMMC Ekaterinburg (#1).

Spartak Vidnoye moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Dynamo K. BC Rostov lost seventh consecutive game. Newly promoted BC Rostov stay at the bottom position with 13 games lost. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.



Rostov - Spartak V MR 57-93

The game between 10th ranked BC Rostov (1-13) and fifth ranked Spartak Vidnoye (9-4) in Rostov on Tuesday ended with biggest points difference. Guests from Vidnoye outscored BC Rostov 93-57. The game was mostly controlled by Spartak Vidnoye. BC Rostov was better in fourth quarter 23-21. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Spartak Vidnoye dominated down low during the game scoring 44 of its points in the paint compared to BC Rostov's 24 and made 19-of-22 free shots (86.4 percent) during the game. Spartak Vidnoye looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. Slovenian point guard Nika Baric (169-92) orchestrated the victory by scoring 16 points and 5 assists. International center Natalia Vieru (196-89) contributed with 13 points and 8 rebounds for the winners. Four Spartak Vidnoye players scored in double figures. Guard Olga Vorobyeva (184-87, agency: LBM Management) replied with 16 points and forward Yana Kotova (187-88) added 7 points and 8 rebounds in the effort for BC Rostov. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Dynamo-GUVD - Dynamo K. 63-69

The game in Novosibirsk was also worth to mention about. Fourth ranked Dynamo Kursk (9-4) played at the court of 7th ranked Dynamo-GUVD (4-9). Dynamo Kursk managed to secure a 6-point victory 69-63. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Dynamo-GUVD. Dynamo-GUVD was ahead by 12 points after three quarters before a 25-7 charge of Dynamo Kursk, which allowed them to win the game. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Dynamo-GUVD to just 7 points in fourth quarter. They outrebounded Dynamo-GUVD 43-32 including 29 on the offensive glass. The best player for the winners was American point guard Temeka Johnson (160-82, college: LSU, agency: Josep and Nicolas) who scored 21 points and 4 assists. The former international center Ekaterina Lisina (203-87) chipped in 17 points, 9 rebounds and 4 blocks. UMMC - Nadezhda 75:65 UMMC defended UMMC Cup title. They beat Nadezhda for the fifth straight trophy. Nika Baric (169-PG-92) posted 21 points to lead the hosts. UMMC eked out a 26:25 lead ten minutes into the game. The hosts extended the margin at 10-point mark at halftime 48:38.
