Glasgow Rocks 95 (24,52,69) (Robinson 23, Davis 16, Harrison 14)

Cheshire Phoenix 78 (20,32,51) (
Chez Marks (191-G-80, college: Morehead St.) 25, Gabe Haskins (178-G-85, college: Huston-Tillotson) 21, Bland 15)

The Rocks moved themselves into joint fifth position in the BBL Championship table thanks to a 95-78 victory over the Cheshire Phoenix at the Emirates Arena this evening.

Both teams traded baskets in the opening exchanges of the contest, but it was the visitors who enjoyed a slightly stronger opening as a Chez Marks three-pointer helped them into a 13-16 lead midway through the first quarter, but the Rocks responded immediately thanks to an 11-0 run to take the score out to 24-16 with two minutes remaining. Four further points from Chez Marks helped the Phoenix close the deficit to just four points at 24-20 at the end of the opening period.

In the second quarter, the Rocks exploded out of the blocks with a 14-2 burst to take the score out to 38-22 with six minutes remaining in the half. The Phoenix spent the remainder of the half trying desperately to close the gap for the rest of the second period, but they were unable to do so as the Rocks continued to extend their lead up until the half where the home side headed into the locker rooms leading by 20 points at 52-32 at the half.

In the second half, a 9-2 burst from Cheshire helped the visitors trim the deficit back to 13 points at 56-43, but that was as close as Cheshire would get in the third quarter as the Rocks steadily extended their lead out to 63-45. Both teams enjoyed 6-0 runs at the end of the third period, but it was the Rocks who lead 69-51 heading into the final stanza.

In the final period, the Phoenix began strongly and got themselves back into the contest as they closed the gap down to nine points at 77-68 with 6:10 remaining in the game, but that was as close as the visitors would get as the Rocks responded immediately with a 13-2 burst to take the score out to 90-70 with less than two minutes left in the game.

The visitors tried valiantly to get themselves back into the game, but they could not get any closer than 15 points in the final minute as the Rocks held on for the all-important victory.

Donald Robinson (193-F-89, college: W.Virginia Tech) was the main man for the Rocks as he bagged a team-high 23 points for the home side in the victory, but it was Chez Marks who led all scorers in the game with 25 points for Cheshire.

Fury storm out of Mariner and on to Playoff Finals - 8 days ago
We headed to the Mariner Centre for one last time on Friday night for a Playoff Semi-Final between Sony Centre Fury and Glasgow Storm. With a Finals spot up for grabs, there was plenty at stake for both teams. Storm showed some nerves in the first quarter, getting off to a really slow start. Falkirk were able to capitalise on this with Keith Bunyan (191-G-77) lighting up behind the arc. Fury worked the ball well as a team and made Glasgow Storm work for extended periods on the defensive e...   [read more]

Boroughmuir shock Saints to make League Championship final - 10 days ago
Boroughmuir Blaze are through to the final of the Scottish League Championship play-offs against Falkirk Fury at Oriam on April 1 after upsetting the seedings by defeating St Mirren 83-77 at the Lagoon Centre, Paisley. For once it was the unsung forwards of the Capital side who earned the plaudits with a brave batting effort against the bigger Saints. Former Edinburgh Kings player Mateusz Kruczynski (194-F-83) led Blaze with 19 points, Jordan Green adding 16 and Luke Gibson 13. But the gu...   [read more]

Kieron Achara's double-double lands him Player of the Week award among Scots playing currently abroad: - 12 days ago
Here is the weekly review of the top performing Scottish players, who play currently abroad. This week's number one is an experienced former international power forward Kieron Achara (208-83, agency: Two Points). He could not help Glasgow Rocks (16-9) in their last game. Despite Achara's very good performance Glasgow Rocks lost 68-76 at home to the lower-ranked (#8) Bristol Acadamy Flyers.    [read more]
