Gareth Murray selected the top Scot playing abroad in last week's games - Feb 25, 2017

We bring you last week's top performances from Scots who are playing abroad and who all have had prior experience of national team duties at youth or senior level.

   #1. This week's number one is an experienced former international forward Gareth Murray (201-84, college: Kalamazoo Valley CC, currently plays in United Kingdom). He led Glasgow Rocks to a victory over the tenth-ranked Cheshire Phoenix (4-15) 95-82 in the British BBL in Friday night's game. Murray was MVP of the game. He recorded 21 points in 29 minutes on the court. Glasgow Rocks (15-5) is placed third in the BBL. It was his team's third consecutive victory in a row. It's Murray's first season with the team. Murray has relatively good stats this year: 12.3ppg, 4.6rpg, 1.9apg, 2FGP: 66.4%(71-107), 3FGP: 35.8% and FT: 82.6% in 19 games he played so far. Former 33.3%; Dunfermline Reign starter played for the Scottish senior national team four years ago.

   #2. Second place goes to former international power forward Kieron Achara (208-83, agency: Two Points, college: Duquesne, currently plays in United Kingdom) is a teammate of previously mentioned Gareth Murray and both played together in the last British BBL game. Achara contributed to a Glasgow Rocks' victory against the tenth-ranked Cheshire Phoenix (4-15) 95-82. He recorded 13 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists and made 2 blocks. This season Achara has relatively solid stats: 13.1ppg, 6.9rpg, 2.5apg, 1.5bpg, 1.2spg, 2FGP: 52.3%, 3FGP: 33.9% and FT: 87.5%. He has a dual citizenship: Scottish and Nigerian. Achara played for the Scottish national team in 2013.

   #3. The Scottish player who performed third best last week abroad was former international forward Alasdair Fraser (201-92, agency: Court Side, college: Maine, currently plays in Germany). He could not help Ehingen/Urspringschule (9-16) in their last game. Despite Fraser's very good performance Ehingen/Urspringschule lost 67-72 on the road to the higher-ranked (#10) Uni Baskets. He was the top scorer with 19 points. Fraser also added 6 rebounds in 25 minutes. They ended the series of three consecutive victories. Fraser has reliable stats this year: 11.2ppg, 4.4rpg, 1.6apg, 1.1bpg, 2FGP: 50.5%, 3FGP: 34.7% in 24 games. Former Sony Centre Fury starter played for the Scottish national team four years ago.

Jonathan Bunyan
Jonathan Bunyan
   #4. Point guard Jonathan Bunyan (182-92, currently plays in United Kingdom) is a teammate of previously mentioned Gareth Murray. He played also in the last British BBL game facing Kieron Achara (above) in the other team. Bunyan helped Glasgow Rocks win their game against the tenth-ranked Cheshire Phoenix (4-15) 95-82. He recorded 8 points. Bunyan has been at the team for four years. Bunyan's overall stats this season are: 5.4ppg, 1.6rpg and 1.4apg. He used to play for the Scottish national team back in 2014.

   #5. Former U18 international forward Grant Mackay (201-94, currently plays in NCAA2) was not able to help the St.Anselm College in their game against the Bentley College in the NCAA2. Mackay recorded 8 points in 18 minutes. his team lost 85-91 in Waltham to the Bentley College. It was St.Anselm College's first loss after three consecutive victories. The Regular Season already ended in the NCAA2. Mackay plays fourth season for the team. This year he averages: 5.9ppg and 5.0rpg in 21 games. Mackay used to play for the Scottish U18 national team seven years ago.

Fraser Malcolm
Fraser Malcolm
   #6. Guard Fraser Malcolm (198-96, currently plays in NCAA2) helped Black Hills State University win their game against the Chadron State College crushing them 63-43 in the NCAA2 on Friday night. He recorded a double-double by scoring 15 points and getting 11 rebounds. The Black Hills State University has not so impressive 4-14 record this season. Malcolm's team will play only one more game in the NCAA2 Regular Season. And that game will be critical. Malcolm averaged so far 14.6ppg, 4.6rpg and 1.1apg. Despite he played previously for the British U20 national team, Malcolm is also a former U18 international player as he played for the Scottish team three years ago.

In the third and final game of 2017's Celtic Clash, Scotland Senior Men returned to Oriam to challenge a Wales squad who had just come off a tough 85-55 loss to Ireland a day earlier.
