    2MLS Round 26: Zlatibor claim title, gain promotion alongside Vojvodina NS - Apr 24, 2017


    The Regular Season in 2MLS just ended. Zlatibor clinched the title. They earned promotion together with Vojvodina NS which claimed the second position in the standings.

    The most important game in the last round took place in Uzice between third ranked Proleter Naftagas (18-7) and seventh ranked The Ere (14-12) on Saturday night. Proleter Naftagas were defeated by The Ere in a tough game on the road 84-92. Proleter Naftagas were trailing by 8 points at halftime but managed to get 4-point lead after three quarters before a 27-15 charge of The Ere, which allowed them to win the game. They made 18-of-20 free shots (90.0 percent) during the game. Strangely Proleter Naftagas outrebounded The Ere 45-32 including 16 on the offensive glass. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists. The best player for the winners was swingman Strahinja Mladenovic (199-92) who scored 30 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists. Forward Branko Andjic (201-82) chipped in 20 points. Guard Slobodan Lalic (195-86, agency: BeoBasket) produced 23 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists for the guests. The Ere maintains seventh position with 14-12 record. Proleter Naftagas at the other side keep the third place with seven games lost.
    Leader Zlatibor delivered the twenty second victory. This time they beat 8th ranked Mladost SP (12-14) 93-88 in Smed. Palanka. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Mladost SP. Power forward Petar Maric (205-87) orchestrated the victory by scoring 23 points and 6 rebounds (was perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line). Sanel Mukanovic contributed with 14 points for the winners. Zeljko Stanisavljevic replied with 34 points (!!!) and 8 rebounds for Mladost SP. Mladost SP's coach tried various players' combinations and tested in total eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Zlatibor (22-4) have an impressive seven-game winning streak. They maintain first position, which they share with Vojvodina NS. Mladost SP at the other side keeps the eighth place with 14 games lost.
    The game in Aleksinac was also quite interesting. One of their biggest challengers Radnicki 1950 (17-9) played at the court of fifth ranked Napredak (17-9). Napredak managed to secure a 8-point victory 79-71 on Saturday. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Radnicki 1950. Dragoljub Sikman had a double-double by scoring 15 points and 13 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners. Napredak's coach used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Nikola Kostic responded with 22 points. Napredak moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Pirot and Radnicki 1950.
    The game with biggest result difference took place in Lazarevac. Local Kolubara (9-17) was outscored by sixth ranked Pirot (17-9) 102-72. Dusan Filipovic notched 20 points to lead the effort. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Pirot moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Napredak and Radnicki 1950. Newly promoted Kolubara keeps the tenth position with 17 games lost.

    Rest of the games of round 26 were quite predictable and ended without any surprises. Here they are:
    Velika Plana was defeated by Vojvodina NS in Novi Sad 93-82. Futog smashed Srem at home 94-72. Boljevac lost to Jagodina on the opponent's court 88-93.
    The best stats of 26th round was 30 points, 12 rebounds and 4 assists by Nikola Vujicic of Jagodina.

    Vojvodina NS - Velika Plana 93-82

    There was no surprise in Novi Sad where 9th ranked Velika Plana (11-15) was defeated by second ranked Vojvodina NS (22-4) 93-82. Velika Plana was ahead by 2 points at the halftime before a 50-37 second half run of Vojvodina NS. They outrebounded Velika Plana 47-34 including a 18-3 advantage in offensive rebounds. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 22 assists. Guard Aleksandar Zaric (197-89) notched a double-double by scoring 17 points and 10 rebounds to lead the effort and Stevan Krtinic (-99) supported him with 14 points and 5 assists. Even a double-double of 19 points and 14 rebounds by center Nemanja Arsic (214-85) did not help to save the game for Velika Plana. Djordje Ciric added 23 points and 6 assists for the guests. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Vojvodina NS keeps a position of league leader, which they share with Zlatibor. Velika Plana at the other side keeps the ninth place with 15 games lost.

    Leader Zlatibor delivered the twenty second victory. This time they beat 8th ranked Mladost SP (12-14) 93-88 in Smed. Palanka. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Mladost SP. The guests were ahead by 1 point but lost the second period ending it with a 11-point deficit before their 29-13 run, which allowed them to win the game. Zlatibor made 17-of-20 charity shots (85.0 percent) during the game. Strangely Mladost SP outrebounded Zlatibor 37-25 including 25 on the defensive glass. Mladost SP was plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. Power forward Petar Maric (205-87) orchestrated the victory by scoring 23 points and 6 rebounds (was perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line). Guard Sanel Mukanovic (192-83) contributed with 14 points for the winners. Five Zlatibor players scored in double figures.     Futog - Srem 94-72

    No shocking result in a game in Tupanjac where eleventh ranked Futog (7-19) smashed bottom-ranked Srem (3-22) 94-72. The game was mostly controlled by Futog. Srem was better in second period 30-21. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They dominated down low during the game scoring 52 of its points in the paint compared to Srem's 26. Futog forced 19 Srem turnovers and outrebounded them 39-24 including 25 on the defensive glass. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 22 assists. Jovan Ostojic notched a double-double by scoring 23 points, 15 rebounds and 5 assists to lead the effort and Luka Mihajlovic supported him with 19 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists. Four Futog players scored in double figures. Even 22 points by forward Djordjo Djordjic (198-78) did not help to save the game for Srem. Filip Nesic added 8 points and 7 rebounds for the guests. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Newly promoted Futog maintains eleventh position with 7-19 record. Srem lost third consecutive game. They stay dead last with 22 lost games.

    We cannot really consider it an upset in the game between close teams when 12th ranked Boljevac (6-20) was defeated on the road by thirteenth ranked KK Jagodina (6-20) 93-88. They made 21-of-26 charity shots (80.8 percent) during the game. 25 personal fouls committed by Boljevac helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. Montenegrin guard Nikola Vujicic (185-89) notched a double-double by scoring 30 points, 12 rebounds and 4 assists to lead the effort and swingman Gordan Radulovic (195-90) supported him with 21 points and 5 assists. Even a double-double of 26 points and 10 rebounds by forward Nenad Grujo (204-90) did not help to save the game for Boljevac. Ugljesa Mitrovic added 10 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists for the guests. Five KK Jagodina and four Boljevac players scored in double figures. Boljevac's coach tried various players' combinations and tested in total eleven players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. KK Jagodina moved-up to twelfth place, which they share with defeated Boljevac.
