Darko Milicic's career in Minnesota close to the end? - Apr 5, 2012

Darko
Milicic
Darko Milicic (212-C-85), 2nd pick in 2003 NBA draft - after LeBron James and ahead of Carmelo Anthony, Chris Bosh, Dwyane Wade - never fulfilled what was expected of him. Actually, he must be one of the biggest busts in the league in 21st century.

After playing in garbage time for 2 and a half seasons in Detroit, Darko moved to Orlando where he wasn't bad and showed little bit of his talent for one and a half season there. Improved stats helped him to get another good contract, not from Magic - who didn't want to extend him - but from Memphis. However, despite not that bad first season, it was another step back in Darko's NBA career. Marc Gasol signed for Grizzlies and Darko was quickly relegated to bench. After two seasons in Memphis, Serbian center was traded to New York, which was total disappointment as he played only 8 games for Knicks and averaged 2 points per game. Finally, New York traded him to Minnesota during 2009/2010 season. Darko started well there and even had some impressive games last season. But, this season is poor for him. Darko was starter at center for Timberwolves, but after series of bad games, his minutes on the floor were decreasing. Now, he didn't play in 14 of last 15 Minnesota's games. It is clear that veteran coach Rick Adelman doesn't have Serbian in his future plans. Logically after his last month's statement about Darko: 'He hasn't done anything to give you faith that he's going to go out and do the job. He's gotten himself out of shape, and I don't think he's been as driven as you'd like.'

If Darko doesn't change his attitude and condition quickly, it is obvious he will be no part of Minnesota next season. Whether they will buy out his contract or trade him (if some other team would accept him and his contract), it will be seen. Darko often said in the past that he would like to return to Europe and maybe his motivation to play in NBA is gone... This season, he is averaging 4.6 points, 3.3 rebounds in 16 minutes.

BC Mega Leks (KLS) agreed terms with 18-year old German swingman Kostja Mushidi (195-98, agency: BeoBasket). He played last season at the junior team of Strasbourg IG in French ProA.
