A League Round 7: Vojvodina loses #1 position - Nov 14, 2012

The round was rather attractive and full of interesting results. The round ended with change at the leadership position, derby games, favorites losing the games and games ending by tiny margin.

Round 7 in A League means a new league leader. The biggest surprise took place in Uzice where host Sloboda (5-2) edged league's leader Vojvodina (6-1) 90-88 on Wednesday evening. It ended at the same time the six-game winning streak of Vojvodina. Sloboda moved-up to third place, which they share with Vrsac. Vojvodina at the other side still keeps top position with one game lost. They were joined at the leadership position by Mega Vizura who have the same record. Vojvodina will play next round against Metalac trying to make it back to the top of the standings. Sloboda will try to continue on its current victory against first ranked Mega Vizura on the road.
Thirteenth-ranked Sloga (1-6) made lots of trouble for second ranked Mega Vizura (6-1) in Kraljevo. The visitors from Vizura managed to secure only one-point victory 94-93. However their fans expected much easier game. Worth to mention a great performance of international center Boban Marjanovic (222-88, agency: Beo Basket) who helped to win the game recording 23 points and 9 rebounds. Vasilije Micic contributed with 24 points and 5 assists for the winners. Naturalized Bosnian guard Marko Popovic (193-84) answered with a double-double by scoring 22 points and 11 assists for Sloga. Sloga's coach tried various players' combinations and tested in total eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Mega Vizura have a solid series of four victories in a row. Mega Vizura keeps a position of league leader, which they share with Vojvodina. Sloga at the other side dropped to the bottom place with six games lost. Mega Vizura will play against Sloboda (#3) in Uzice in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Sloga will play on the road against Vrsac (#4) to get more than just one victory in their record.
Very important is a road loss of third ranked Tamis (4-3) against eighth ranked Metalac (4-3) on Wednesday night. Visiting Tamis were defeated by Metalac in Valjevo 69-54. It was a great evening for Dragan Kruscic who led his team to a victory scoring 11 points, 8 rebounds and 7 assists. At the losing side Ivan Miceta responded with 10 points. Tamis' coach let to play ten players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Metalac moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Tamis and Radnicki Basket. Metalac will meet league's second-placed Vojvodina in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Tamis will play against OKK Beograd and hope to secure a win.
Bottom-ranked Smederevo Vizura managed to get the second consecutive victory. This time they won against tenth-ranked Borac 69-64. And what about a second win in a row after ...five consecutive loses. It was an exceptional evening for Stefan Djordjevic who led the winners and scored 18 points and 6 rebounds. Smederevo Vizura (2-5) moved-up to tenth place, which they share with 3 other teams including defeated Borac. Smederevo Vizura's next round opponent will be KK Jagodina (#12) at home.
Important game to mention about took place in Beograd. Eleventh ranked OKK Beograd (3-4) saved a 1-point victory at home edging higher ranked Radnicki Basket (4-3) 74-73 on Wednesday evening. Vladimir Popovic fired 22 points for the winners. OKK Beograd moved-up to eighth place, which they share with Konstantin. Loser Radnicki Basket keeps the fifth position with three games lost. OKK Beograd will face higher ranked Tamis (#7) in Pancevo in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Radnicki Basket will play on the road against Borac in Cacak.

In the last two games of round 7 Vrsac defeated BKK Radnicki in a road game 89-77. Jagodina beat Konstantin at home 61-55.



OKK Beograd - Radnicki Basket 74-73

Important game to mention about took place in Beograd. Eleventh ranked OKK Beograd (3-4) saved a 1-point victory at home edging higher ranked Radnicki Basket (4-3) 74-73 on Wednesday evening. The hosts trailed by 12 points after three quarters before their 25-12 charge, which allowed them to win the game. OKK Beograd looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. Guard Vladimir Popovic (190-82) fired 22 points for the winners. Power forward Milos Pavlovic (210-84, agency: BeoExcell) chipped in 15 points and 8 rebounds. Power forward Nikola Markovic (208-89) produced a double-double by scoring 20 points and 10 rebounds and guard Filip Djuran (196-91) added 9 points and 6 rebounds respectively for lost side. OKK Beograd moved-up to eighth place, which they share with Konstantin. Loser Radnicki Basket keeps the fifth position with three games lost. OKK Beograd will face higher ranked Tamis (#7) in Pancevo in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Radnicki Basket will play on the road against Borac in Cacak.

Metalac - Tamis 69-54

Very important is a road loss of third ranked Tamis (4-3) against eighth ranked Metalac (4-3) on Wednesday night. Visiting Tamis were defeated by Metalac in Valjevo 69-54. The game was mostly controlled by Metalac. Tamis managed to win second period 15-12. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. It was a great evening for swingman Dragan Kruscic (198-86) who led his team to a victory scoring 11 points, 8 rebounds and 7 assists. Forward Stefan Balmazovic (202-89) helped adding 14 points. Four Metalac players scored in double figures. At the losing side Ivan Miceta (205-81) responded with 10 points and guard Branko Jereminov (187-87) scored 7 points. Thirteenth-ranked Sloga (1-6) made lots of trouble for second ranked Mega Vizura (6-1) in Kraljevo. The visitors from Vizura managed to secure only one-point victory 94-93. However their fans expected much easier game. The guests were ahead by 2 points but lost the second period ending it with a 2-point deficit before their 21-18 run, which allowed them to win the game. Mega Vizura shot 63.0 percent from the field. It was a great shooting night for Mega Vizura especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 66.7 percentage. There was no surprise in Beograd where 9th ranked BKK Radnicki (2-5) was defeated by fourth ranked Vrsac (5-2) 89-77 on Wednesday. The game was mostly controlled by Vrsac. BKK Radnicki was better in fourth quarter 31-26. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Vrsac shot 24 for 37 from the free-throw line, while BKK Radnicki only scored six points from the stripe. BKK Radnicki was plagued by 26 personal fouls down the stretch. Swingman Djordje Milosevic (198-93) fired 19 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists for the winners. point guard Jovan Novak (183-94) chipped in 18 points and 4 assists (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field). point guard Bogic Vujosevic (189-92, agency: Beo Basket) produced 16 points and 7 assists (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field) and power forward Nemanja Bezbradica (204-93, agency: Beo Basket) added 15 points and 8 rebounds respectively for lost side. Vrsac will face bottom-ranked Sloga (#14) in Kraljevo in the next round which should be an easy win for them. BKK Radnicki will play on the road against Konstantin (#8) in Nis and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
