A League Round 8: Vojvodina beats Metalac by two after a very close game - Nov 18, 2012

The most exciting game of round 8 in the A League took place in Novi Sad. This derby game ended with only two-point defeat on the road of 6th ranked Metalac (4-4) to second ranked Vojvodina (7-1) 75-73 on Saturday evening. The hosts trailed by 1 point after three quarters before their 18-15 charge, which allowed them to win the game. 30 personal fouls committed by Metalac helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. Power forward Dragan Zekovic (210-87, agency: Beo Basket) orchestrated the victory by scoring 13 points and 7 rebounds. Forward Stefan Stojacic (194-89, agency: Interperformances) contributed with 8 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners. Vojvodina's coach Sinisa Matic used an eleven-player rotation in such tough game. Forward Vladimir Mijovic (207-84) replied with 18 points for Metalac. Vojvodina keeps a position of league leader, which they share with Mega Vizura. Metalac at the other side dropped to the fifth place with four games lost. They share the position with 4 other teams. Vojvodina is looking forward to face OKK Beograd (#7) on the road in the next round where they are favorite. Metalac will play against the league's leader Mega Vizura and is hoping to prove to their fans that this time they can win.
An interesting game for Mega Vizura (7-1) which hosted in Vizura 3rd ranked Sloboda (5-3). First ranked Mega Vizura had an easy win 100-81. Worth to mention a great performance of international center Boban Marjanovic (222-88, agency: Beo Basket) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 26 points, 12 rebounds and 4 assists (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field) and Vasilije Micic who added 11 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists during the contest. Power forward Bogdan Obrenovic (206-90, agency: INVICTUS Sports Group) responded with 14 points and 8 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Mega Vizura have an impressive five-game winning streak. Mega Vizura maintains first position with 7-1 record, which they share with Vojvodina. Sloboda at the other side dropped to the fourth place with three games lost. Mega Vizura will play against Metalac (#8) in Valjevo in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Sloboda will play at home against Vrsac (#3) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
A very close game took place in Smederevo between KK Jagodina and Smederevo Vizura. Twelfth ranked KK Jagodina (3-5) got a very close victory on the road over 10th ranked Smederevo Vizura (2-6). KK Jagodina managed to escape with a 2-point win 71-69 on Saturday evening. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Smederevo Vizura. The winners were led by Rajko Kljajevic who scored that evening 24 points and 6 rebounds. KK Jagodina's coach Aleksandar Icic allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. Even 23 points by Marko Popadic did not help to save the game for Smederevo Vizura. KK Jagodina moved-up to tenth place, which they share with Borac. Loser Smederevo Vizura dropped to the twelfth position with six games lost. They share it with BKK Radnicki. KK Jagodina will meet at home Borac (#10) in the next round. Smederevo Vizura will play against BKK Radnicki in Beograd and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
Worth to mention about the upset in a game between Radnicki Basket (4-4) and Borac (3-5), which took place in Cacak. Higher ranked Radnicki Basket lost to eleventh ranked Borac in a road game 90-96. The best player for the winners was Mladen Sljivancanin who scored 31 points, 7 rebounds and 8 assists. Borac moved-up to tenth place, which they share with Jagodina. Radnicki Basket at the other side keeps the fifth position with four games lost. Borac's next round opponent will be KK Jagodina (#11) on the road. Radnicki Basket will play against Tamis (#9) in Pancevo.

Petar Despotovic orchestrated the victory by scoring 15 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Konstantin moved-up to fifth place, which they share with 4 other teams. BKK Radnicki lost fifth consecutive game. They dropped to the twelfth position with six games lost. Konstantin will face bottom-ranked Sloga (#14) in Kraljevo in the next round and are hoping to win another game. BKK Radnicki will play at home against Smederevo Vizura and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

In the last two games of round 8 bottom-ranked Sloga were beaten by Vrsac on the road 95-81. Tamis lost to OKK Beograd on its own court 74-81.



Vrsac - Sloga 95-81

No shocking result in a game when third ranked Vrsac (6-2) beat at home bottom-ranked Sloga (1-7) 95-81 on Sunday. The game was mostly controlled by Vrsac. Sloga was better in fourth quarter 27-25. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They shot 64.4 percent from the field. Vrsac looked well-organized offensively handing out 28 assists. Swingman Djordje Milosevic (198-93) orchestrated the victory by scoring 21 points, 9 rebounds and 7 assists (on 8-of-9 shooting from the field). Power forward Vladimir Vuksanovic (206-78) contributed with 25 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists for the winners. Four Vrsac players scored in double figures. Center Sasa Mijajlovic (211-80, college: Hutchinson CC) replied with a double-double by scoring 24 points and 13 rebounds and naturalized Bosnian guard Marko Popovic (193-84) added 21 points and 8 assists in the effort for Sloga. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Vrsac have an impressive six-game winning streak. They maintain third position with 6-2 record behind leader Mega Vizura. Sloga lost third consecutive game. They stay at the bottom place with seven games lost. Vrsac will face Sloboda (#4) in Uzice in the next round. Sloga will play at home against Konstantin (#6) in Nis.

Stanoje Knezevic (202-89) contributed with 13 points and 7 rebounds for the winners. Five OKK Beograd players scored in double figures.
