A League Round 9: Mega Vizura defeats Metalac in the closest game of the week - Nov 24, 2012

There was no lack of interesting games this round. The round ended with favorites losing the games and games ending by tiny margin.

The most exciting game of round 9 in the A League took place in Valjevo. This derby game ended with only two-point home defeat of 8th ranked Metalac (4-5) to first ranked Mega Vizura (8-1) 89-87 on Saturday evening. Guest team only slightly avoided a big embarassment. 27 personal fouls committed by Metalac helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. Point guard Vasilije Micic (191-94, agency: Beo Basket) stepped up and scored 28 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists for the winners and international center Boban Marjanovic (222-88, agency: Beo Basket) chipped in 18 points and 12 rebounds (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field). The best for the losing side was swingman Dragan Kruscic (198-86) with 21 points and 7 rebounds. Metalac's coach Dragan Nikolic rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Mega Vizura have an impressive series of six victories in a row. Mega Vizura maintains first place with 8-1 record, which they share with Vojvodina. Metalac at the other side dropped to the seventh position with five games lost. They share it with 3 other teams. Mega Vizura is looking forward to face OKK Beograd (#8) at home in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Metalac will play against Vrsac and is hoping to prove to their supporters that this time they can win.
Very important is a road loss of third ranked Vrsac (6-3) against fourth ranked Sloboda (6-3) on Saturday night. Visiting Vrsac was defeated by Sloboda in a tough game in Uzice 69-76. It ended at the same time the six-game winning streak of Vrsac. Swingman Marko Ljubojevic (202-84) nailed 17 points and 7 rebounds for the winning side and Nemanja Vucicevic accounted for 15 points. Montenegrin power forward Nemanja Radovic (206-91, agency: Beo Basket) came up with 19 points and 9 rebounds for Vrsac in the defeat. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Sloboda moved-up to third place, which they share with defeated Vrsac. Sloboda will play against Konstantin (#5) in Nis in the next round. Vrsac will play at home against Metalac in Valjevo and hopes to get back on the winning track.
The game in Beograd was also quite interesting. Second ranked Vojvodina (8-1) played at the court of 7th ranked OKK Beograd (4-5). Vojvodina did not have too big problems and got a relatively easy victory 96-78 on Saturday. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of OKK Beograd. The best player for the winners was Stefan Stojacic who scored 20 points and 5 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was Stanoje Knezevic who recorded 21 points, 8 rebounds, 6 assists and 4 steals. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Vojvodina keeps a position of league leader, which they share with Mega Vizura. Loser OKK Beograd keeps the seventh place with five games lost. They share the position with 3 other teams. Vojvodina will meet at home Radnicki Basket (#6) in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. OKK Beograd will play against the league's leader Mega Vizura and hope to secure a win.

Radnicki Basket maintains fifth place with 5-4 record, which they share with Konstantin. Tamis lost their third game in a row. They dropped to the seventh position with five games lost. Radnicki Basket's next round opponent will be league's second-placed Vojvodina in Novi Sad and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Tamis will play on the road against Borac (#7) in Cacak and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
Important game to mention about took place in Jagodina. Tenth ranked Borac (4-5) saved a 2-point victory on the road edging 11th ranked KK Jagodina (3-6) 82-80 on Saturday evening. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of KK Jagodina. Mladen Pantic stepped up with a double-double by scoring 29 points and 10 rebounds for the winners. KK Jagodina's coach let to play ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Borac moved-up to seventh place, which they share with 3 other teams. Newly promoted KK Jagodina keeps the eleventh position with six games lost. Borac will face Tamis (#10) in Pancevo in the next round. KK Jagodina will play at home against BKK Radnicki in Beograd and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

In the last two games of round 9 Konstantin won against Sloga on the opponent's court 77-72. BKK Radnicki outscored Smederevo in a home game 79-59.



Radnicki Basket - Tamis 68-67

A very interesting game took place in Beograd. It ended with only one-point defeat on the road of 9th ranked Tamis (4-5) to fifth ranked Radnicki Basket (5-4) 68-67 on Saturday evening. Tamis were ahead by 6 points after three quarters before a 20-13 charge of Radnicki Basket, which allowed them to win the game. They also forced 19 Tamis turnovers. It was a good game for guard Dejan Djokic (187-89) who saved his team from a defeat with 17 points. Guard Milos Bojovic (198-81, agency: Beo Basket) contributed with 11 points and 4 assists for the winners. Guard Branko Jereminov (187-87) answered with 11 points, 5 rebounds and 8 assists and center Marko Janjusevic (213-85, agency: Prossin Sports Management) added 14 points in the effort for Tamis. Both coaches allowed to play bench players in such tough game. Radnicki Basket maintains fifth place with 5-4 record, which they share with Konstantin. Tamis lost their third game in a row. The game in Beograd was also quite interesting. Second ranked Vojvodina (8-1) played at the court of 7th ranked OKK Beograd (4-5). Vojvodina did not have too big problems and got a relatively easy victory 96-78 on Saturday. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of OKK Beograd. The guests trailed by 1 point after first quarter, but they stormed back to get the 7-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 96-78. Vojvodina outrebounded OKK Beograd 40-21 including a 29-14 advantage in defensive rebounds. It was a great shooting night for Vojvodina especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 57.9 percentage. The best player for the winners was forward Stefan Stojacic (194-89, agency: Interperformances) who scored 20 points and 5 rebounds. Guard Ognjen Kuzeta (194-87) chipped in 14 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists. Sloga - Konstantin 72-77

Very expected game in Kraljevo where 14th ranked Sloga (1-8) was defeated by sixth ranked Konstantin (5-4) 77-72 on Saturday. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 24-16. But Sloga won second period 18-11. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Konstantin made 19-of-25 free shots (76.0 percent) during the game. Sloga was plagued by 25 personal fouls down the stretch. Naturalized Montenegrin guard Petar Despotovic (194-88, agency: Alti Sport) stepped up and scored 21 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists for the winners and Filip Dumic chipped in 16 points and 5 rebounds (went 10 for 10 at the free throw line !!!). The best for the losing side was center Dusan Vuletic (207-90) with 15 points and 6 rebounds (perfect from the field making all six shots) and center Sasa Mijajlovic (211-80, college: Hutchinson CC) scored 13 points and 7 rebounds. Both coaches allowed to play bench players in such tough game. Konstantin moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Radnicki Basket. Sloga lost their fourth game in a row. They stay at the bottom position with eight games lost. Konstantin will face higher ranked Sloboda (#3) in Uzice in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Sloga will play on the road against Smederevo Vizura (#13) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

Everything could happen in Beograd at the game between two tied teams. Both twelfth ranked BKK Radnicki and 13th ranked Smederevo Vizura had identical 2-6 record. This time BKK Radnicki used a home court advantage and smashed the opponent from Smederevo 79-59 on Saturday night. The game was mostly controlled by BKK Radnicki. Smederevo Vizura was better in second period 18-17. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Point guard Bogic Vujosevic (189-92, agency: Beo Basket) stepped up and scored 15 points and 8 rebounds for the winners and point guard Luka Igrutinovic (193-92) chipped in 16 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. Five BKK Radnicki players scored in double figures.
