Power forward Dragan Zekovic (210-F/C-87, agency: Beo Basket) had a great game in the last round for second-ranked Vojvodina, receiving a Eurobasket.com Player of the Week award for round 19. The 25-year old player was the main contributor (21 points, nine rebounds and three assists) to his team's victory, helping them to edge out Sloga (#13, 6-13) 74-72. Vojvodina maintains the 2nd position in Serbian A League. They would have been even better if they hadn't lost a few games earlier this season. Vojvodina will need more victories to improve their 15-4 record. In the team's last game Zekovic had a remarkable 88.9% from 2-point range. It's his second year at Vojvodina and it's hard to imagine this team without him. Dragan Zekovic has solid league stats. He is in league's top in rebounds (4th best: 6.2rpg) and averages impressive 63.3% FGP.
The second best player in last round's games was 27-year old Bosnia and Herzegovina Nikola Jeftic (202-F-85) of OKK Beograd. Jeftic had a very good evening with a double-double of 13 points and 10 rebounds. Of course he lead OKK Beograd to another comfortable win outscoring the lower-ranked Borac (#10, 8-11) 85-60. This victory allowed OKK Beograd to move up to 7th position in the standings. His team is not often considered as one of the league's best with a mere 9-10 record. Jeftic is a newcomer at OKK Beograd, but is already one of team's top players.
Third on the list of top players last round was Bosnia and Herzegovina guard Marko Popovic (193-G-84) of Sloga (#13). Popovic scored 24 points and passed six assists. Despite Popovic's great performance Sloga lost 72-74 to the higher-ranked Vojvodina (#2, 15-4). But his team cannot count on just a single player as he also needs help of the other teammates. The chances of Sloga not to end season at such low position in the league, however are less than slim as they have already lost 13 games, recording just six victories. With bigger assistance of his teammates, Popovic could try to bring Sloga's a little bit higher in the standings. Popovic has individually a great season in Serbia. After 14 games, he made it on the list of the league's leaders in points with 18.1ppg (2nd best) and assists with 7.3apg (best passer). Marko Popovic has also Serbian passport and can play in the league with a status of domestic player.
Other top performing players last week: 4. Stefan Djordjevic (206-C-89) of Smederevo - 17 points and 10 rebounds 5. Nemanja Radovic (206-F/C-91) of Vrsac - 22 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists 6. Stefan Zivanovic (196-G-89) of Metalac - 30 points and 3 rebounds 7. Boban Marjanovic (222-C-88) of Mega Vizura - 17 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists 8. Nikola Vujicic (185-G-89) of Jagodina - 24 points, 2 rebounds and 3 assists 9. Nikola Jevtovic (208-F/C-89) of Sloboda Uzice - 15 points and 9 rebounds 10. Maksim Sturanovic (209-C-88) of Radnicki Basket - 9 points, 12 rebounds and 2 assists
The Player of the week is chosen based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc. The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it's accuracy. The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3* (REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) - 2*BSAG - 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4* (2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM - 3* (2FGPA-2FGPM) - 3* (3FGPA-3FGPM) - (FTA-FTM)
