A League Round 20: Radnicki Basket beats OKK Beograd in a derby game - Feb 16, 2013

Coincidentally all hosts won their games. There were many interesting games last round. The round ended with derby games and favorites losing the games.

The most interesting game was a derby match between two local teams from Beograd: Radnicki Basket (#8) and OKK Beograd (#7). Radnicki Basket (10-10) won against visiting OKK Beograd (9-11) 84-76. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But OKK Beograd won third quarter 20-16. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded OKK Beograd 44-31 including a 21-9 advantage in offensive rebounds. The best player for the winners was Montenegrin center Maksim Sturanovic (209-88, agency: Beo Basket) who had a double-double by scoring 20 points and 11 rebounds. Guard Pedja Stamenkovic (190-88, agency: Interperformances) chipped in 13 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. Guard Vladimir Popovic (190-82) produced 18 points for the guests. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Radnicki Basket moved-up to seventh place, which they share with Tamis. OKK Beograd at the other side dropped to the ninth position with 11 games lost. They share it with Borac. Radnicki Basket is looking forward to face Borac (#10) in Cacak in the next round. OKK Beograd will play at home against Tamis in Pancevo and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
Very important is a road loss of third ranked Metalac (13-7) against eighth ranked Tamis (10-10) on Saturday night. Visiting Metalac was defeated by Tamis in Pancevo 84-69. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of Metalac. Tamis moved-up to seventh place, which they share with Radnicki Basket. Metalac at the other side keeps the third position with seven games lost. Tamis will play against OKK Beograd (#9) on the road in the next round. Metalac will play against the league's second-placed Vojvodina (#2) and will have a slim chance for a victory.
An exciting game between Top Four teams was played in Novi Sad. Second ranked Vojvodina faced 4th ranked Sloboda. Host Vojvodina (16-4) defeated guests from Uzice (11-9) 85-78. Worth to mention a great performance of Dragan Zekovic who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 15 points and 10 rebounds. Slavko Stefanovic responded with 21 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Vojvodina have an impressive five-game winning streak. They maintain second position with 16-4 record behind leader Mega Vizura. Sloboda lost third consecutive game. They keep the fourth place with nine games lost. They share the position with Vrsac and Konstantin. Vojvodina will meet Metalac (#3) in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Sloboda will play against the league's leader Mega Vizura and hope to secure a win.
Leader Mega Vizura delivered the seventeenth victory. This time they crushed 13th ranked Sloga (6-14) 102-70. The winners were led by Boban Marjanovic who had that evening a double-double by scoring 18 points, 12 rebounds and 5 assists (on 9-of-11 shooting from the field). Mega Vizura's coach felt very confident that he used 10 players saving starting five for next games. Mega Vizura (17-3) have an impressive six-game winning streak. Mega Vizura maintains first position. Sloga at the other side dropped to the twelfth place with 14 games lost. Mega Vizura's next round opponent will be Sloboda (#5) in Uzice. Sloga will play at home against Vrsac (#6).
The game with biggest result difference took place in Nis. Local Konstantin (11-9) outscored 14th ranked KK Jagodina (4-16) 100-49 on Saturday night. The best player for the winners was Vladimir Velickovic who scored 17 points, 8 assists and 4 steals (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field). The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Konstantin moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Vrsac and Sloboda Uzice. KK Jagodina lost eighth consecutive game. KK Jagodina at the other side, also newcomer in the league, stay at the bottom position with 16 games lost. Konstantin will face BKK Radnicki (#12) in Beograd in the next round and are hoping to win another game. KK Jagodina will play at home against Smederevo Vizura.

In the last two games of round 20 BKK Radnicki was crushed by Vrsac in a road game 98-69. Borac beat Smederevo at home 81-77.


Vojvodina - Sloboda Uzice 85-78

An exciting game between Top Four teams was played in Novi Sad. Second ranked Vojvodina faced 4th ranked Sloboda. Host Vojvodina (16-4) defeated guests from Uzice (11-9) 85-78. Sloboda trailed by 14 points after 3 quarters before a 25-18 run in the last quarter cut the deficit to 78-85 at the end of the game. Worth to mention a great performance of power forward Dragan Zekovic (210-87, agency: Beo Basket) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 15 points and 10 rebounds and guard Radovan Markovic (194-82) who added 15 points during the contest. Four Vojvodina players scored in double figures. Center Slavko Stefanovic (206-81, agency: BeoExcell) responded with 21 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists and guard Nemanja Vucicevic (197-92) scored 16 points (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field). They maintain second position with 16-4 record behind leader Mega Vizura. Sloboda lost third consecutive game. They keep the fourth place with nine games lost. Leader Mega Vizura delivered the seventeenth victory. This time they crushed 13th ranked Sloga (6-14) 102-70. The game without a history. Mega Vizura led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. Mega Vizura outrebounded Sloga 50-26 including a 22-7 advantage in offensive rebounds. Mega Vizura players were unselfish on offense dishing 23 assists. The winners were led by the former international center Boban Marjanovic (222-88, agency: Beo Basket) who had that evening a double-double by scoring 18 points, 12 rebounds and 5 assists (on 9-of-11 shooting from the field) and Nemanja Krstic (198-93) supported him with 16 points and 9 rebounds. Five Mega Vizura players scored in double figures. Mega Vizura's coach felt very confident that he used 10 players saving starting five for next games. Even 11 points, 5 rebounds and 7 assists by guard Mitar Trivunovic (196-77) did not help to save the game for Sloga. There was no surprise when 12th ranked BKK Radnicki (6-14) was crushed on the road by sixth ranked Vrsac (11-9) 98-69 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by Vrsac. BKK Radnicki was better in fourth quarter 21-20. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Vrsac shot 62.1 percent from the field. Vrsac outrebounded BKK Radnicki 28-17 including a 24-12 advantage in defensive rebounds. The best player for the winners was swingman Djordje Milosevic (198-93) who scored 19 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists. Power forward Vladimir Vuksanovic (206-78) chipped in 20 points and 5 rebounds. Borac - Smederevo 81-77

The game between closely ranked teams ended with tenth ranked Borac's (9-11) home victory over 11th ranked Smederevo Vizura (7-13) 81-77 on Saturday. Smederevo Vizura trailed by 11 points after 3 quarters before a 27-20 run in the last quarter cut the deficit to 77-81 at the end of the game. The best player for the winners was forward Drasko Radovic (198-90) who scored 18 points and 6 rebounds. Guard Nemanja Prolovic (188-87) chipped in 11 points and 6 assists. Four Borac players scored in double figures. Forward Miroslav Radenkovic (204-83) produced 14 points and 8 rebounds and point guard Marko Popadic (190-89) added 16 points respectively for the guests. Smederevo Vizura's coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Borac moved-up to ninth place, which they share with OKK Beograd. Loser Smederevo Vizura keeps the eleventh position with 13 games lost. Borac will face higher ranked Radnicki Basket (#7) in Beograd in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Smederevo Vizura will play on the road against KK Jagodina (#14).

Konstantin - Jagodina 100-49

The game with biggest result difference took place in Nis. Local Konstantin (11-9) outscored 14th ranked KK Jagodina (4-16) 100-49 on Saturday night. The game without a history. Konstantin led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated on the defensive end, holding KK Jagodina to just 4 points in third quarter. Konstantin held KK Jagodina to an opponent 25.0 percent shooting from the field compared to 69.4 percent accuracy of the winners. They outrebounded KK Jagodina 37-21 including a 29-13 advantage in defensive rebounds. Konstantin looked well-organized offensively handing out 31 assists comparing to just 3 passes made by KK Jagodina's players. The best player for the winners was guard Vladimir Velickovic (178-89) who scored 17 points, 8 assists and 4 steals (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field). Naturalized Montenegrin center Milovan Savic (205-87) chipped in 12 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field). Four Konstantin players scored in double figures. Marko Puzic (198-85) produced 15 points and forward Vuksan Gagovic (202-84) added 11 points respectively for the guests. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Konstantin moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Vrsac and Sloboda Uzice. KK Jagodina lost eighth consecutive game. KK Jagodina at the other side, also newcomer in the league, stay at the bottom position with 16 games lost. Konstantin will face BKK Radnicki (#12) in Beograd in the next round and are hoping to win another game. KK Jagodina will play at home against Smederevo Vizura.
