A League Round 23: Mega Vizura loses #1 position - Mar 3, 2013

The Regular Season in A League is slowly approaching the end. But there may be still some important changes in the final standings in the last 3 rounds.

Round 23 in A League means a new league leader. The biggest surprise took place in Beograd where host OKK Beograd (11-12) beat league's leader Mega Vizura (18-5) 90-84 on Saturday evening. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Mega Vizura. Mega Vizura trailed by 12 points after 3 quarters before a 24-18 run in the last quarter cut the deficit to 84-90 at the end of the game. OKK Beograd looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists. 34 personal fouls committed by Mega Vizura helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. The best player for the winners was Stanoje Knezevic (202-89) who had a double-double by scoring 17 points and 17 rebounds. Naturalized Bosnian forward Nikola Jeftic (202-85) chipped in 28 points and 7 rebounds (on 10-of-13 shooting from the field). Power forward Andrija Bojic (210-93, agency: Beo Basket) produced 18 points and 7 rebounds (on 8-of-9 shooting from the field) for the guests. Mega Vizura's coach rotated eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. OKK Beograd maintains eighth place with 11-12 record, which they share with Borac. Mega Vizura at the other side still keeps top position with five games lost. They were joined at the leadership position by Vojvodina who have the same record. Mega Vizura will play next round against Radnicki Basket trying to make it back to the top of the standings. OKK Beograd will try to continue on its current victory against sixth ranked Vrsac on the road.
Sixth-ranked Radnicki Basket (12-11) made lots of trouble for second ranked Vojvodina (18-5) in Beograd. The visitors from Novi Sad managed to secure only one-point victory 68-67. However their fans expected much easier game. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Radnicki Basket. Power forward Dragan Zekovic (210-87, agency: Beo Basket) saved the victory by scoring 18 points. Stefan Stojacic contributed with 10 points for the winners. Power forward Nikola Markovic (208-89) answered with 24 points for Radnicki Basket. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Vojvodina keeps a position of league leader, which they share with Mega Vizura. Radnicki Basket at the other side keeps the sixth place with 11 games lost. They share the position with Vrsac. Vojvodina will play against Tamis (#10) in Pancevo in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Radnicki Basket will play on the road against the league's second-placed Mega Vizura (#2) and hopes to get back on the winning track.
The game in Uzice was also quite interesting. 4th placed Konstantin (13-10) played at the court of seventh ranked Sloboda (13-10). Sloboda defeated Konstantin 80-68 on Saturday. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Konstantin. It was a great evening for Nikola Jevtovic who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 21 points and 12 rebounds (on 7-of-8 shooting from the field). Filip Pejovic responded with 12 points. Both coaches tested many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Sloboda moved-up to fourth place, which they share with defeated Konstantin. Sloboda will meet Smederevo Vizura (#12) on the road in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Konstantin will play against Metalac (#3) in Valjevo and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
A very interesting game took place in Beograd. It ended with only one-point defeat on the road of 14th ranked KK Jagodina (5-18) to twelfth ranked BKK Radnicki (8-15) 78-77 on Sunday evening. It was an exceptional evening for Marko Boltic who led the winners and scored 10 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists. BKK Radnicki's coach Milan Mitrovic used entire bench in such tough game. BKK Radnicki moved-up to eleventh place, which they share with Smederevo. Newly promoted KK Jagodina stay at the bottom position with 18 games lost. BKK Radnicki's next round opponent will be higher ranked Borac (#9) in Cacak and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. KK Jagodina will play at home against Sloga (#13) in Kraljevo and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

Other games of round 23 were very predictable and ended without any surprises. Here they are:
Smederevo defeated Sloga in a road game 74-70. Metalac beat Vrsac at home 87-76. Borac won against Tamis on the opponent's court 76-72.


BKK Radnicki - Jagodina 78-77

A very interesting game took place in Beograd. It ended with only one-point defeat on the road of 14th ranked KK Jagodina (5-18) to twelfth ranked BKK Radnicki (8-15) 78-77 on Sunday evening. KK Jagodina was tied at the half but could not keep up in last two quarters eventually losing the game. They outrebounded KK Jagodina 40-27 including 27 on the defensive glass. It was an exceptional evening for guard Marko Boltic (193-87) who led the winners and scored 10 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists. Forward Predrag Kosanovic (203-76, agency: BeoExcell) accounted for 12 points and 7 rebounds for the winning side. BKK Radnicki's coach Milan Mitrovic used entire bench in such tough game. Sloga - Smederevo 70-74

Everything could happen in Kraljevo at the game between two tied teams. Both twelfth ranked Smederevo Vizura and 13th ranked Sloga had identical 7-15 record. But Sloga was not able to use a home court advantage and was defeated by the opponent from Smederevo 74-70. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Sloga won third quarter 27-19. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The game was decided in the last minutes when Smederevo Vizura won last quarter 16-14. It was an exceptional evening for power forward Danilo Sibalic (204-88) who led the winners and scored 29 points and 8 rebounds. Forward Miroslav Radenkovic (204-83) accounted for 17 points and 14 rebounds for the winning side. Guard Mitar Trivunovic (196-77) came up with 21 points, 6 rebounds and 7 assists and power forward Aleksandar Marelja (207-92) added 12 points and 8 rebounds respectively for Sloga in the defeat. No shocking result in a game in Valjevo where third ranked Metalac (15-8) defeated 5th ranked Vrsac (12-11) 87-76. Vrsac was ahead by 1 point after three quarters before a 28-16 charge of Metalac, which allowed them to win the game. They shot the lights out from three nailing 14 long-distance shots on high 58.3 percentage. It was an exceptional evening for guard Nikola Tomasevic (192-90) who led the winners and scored 20 points and 8 rebounds. Montenegrin Bojan Bakic (195-83, agency: Interperformances) accounted for 19 points for the winning side. Metalac's coach Dragan Nikolic allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. Power forward Vladimir Vuksanovic (206-78) came up with 17 points and 7 rebounds and swingman Djordje Milosevic (198-93) added 11 points and 10 rebounds respectively for Vrsac in the defeat. Tamis were ahead by 5 points after three quarters before a 30-21 charge of Borac, which allowed them to win the game.
