Serbia celebrated a vital victory over Latvia on the final day of the preliminary action at 2013 EuroBasket Group C. Both teams entered the game having suffered two defeats in the starting two games. Serbia celebrated a vital victory over Latvia on the final day of the preliminary action at 2013 EuroBasket Group C. Both teams entered the game having suffered two defeats in the starting two games. Jelena Milovanovic (190-PF-89) scored 15 points and helped Serbia gain the victory that allowed them to advance into the Second Stage of the tournament. Serbia grabbed the initiative early in the game. They rolled to a 20:14 lead at the first break. Serbia kept Latvia at distance throughout the second period. They accounted for a 31:24 halftime lead. Babkina pulled Latvia within a single point early in the third term 30:31. But Serbia hung on to escape with a 43:36 lead at the final intermission. Jansone and Babkina erased the deficit midway through the fourth period. They evened things up at 48. However Matic and Jovanovic allowed Serbia to gain some breathing space at 55:50. Kristine Karklina (175-G-83, agency: Regeneracom Sports) sank four straight free throws to cut it back to one 56:57 with 57 seconds remaining. But Jelena Milovanovic and Rad came up with five free throws in the dying seconds to seal the victory for Serbia. Rad notched 10 points, while Dajana Butulija (176-SG-86, agency: Interperformances) had 9 points in the win. Kristine Karklina answered with 17 points for Latvia. Anete Steinberga (188-F-90, agency: LBM Management, college: UTEP) had 11 points in the losing effort.

Great Britain surprise Serbia in Trelaze in the opener of the EuroBasket 2013 in Group C. Great Britain erupted for a 76:68 win and grabbed 1-0 record on top. Great Britain immediately showed their ambitions in the first period as they produced an 18-13 lead. Serbia recovered in the second frame and managed to post 25-23 rally for 41:38 at the halftime. Serbian team dominated the third period and started to control the court adding 21-11 in the period an entered the last stanza with 7 points deficit. Great Britain however needed the final push in the last period to win the game. Johannah Leedham scored for 71:68 and then Collins increased to 4 points from the free throw line. Again Johannah Leedham and then Chantelle Handy (191-C-87, college: Marshall) ensured the first victory of the tournament in the last seconds of the game. Azania Stewart (195-C-89, college: Florida) and Stephanie Gandy (178-F-82, college: Michigan) top-scored for the winners with 13 points each. Johannah Leedham (180-SF-87, college: Franklin Pierce) collected 12 points and 10 boards, while Chantelle Handy netted 10. Jelena Milovanovic (190-PF-89) ended up with 19 points in the losing effort, whilst Ana Dabovic (183-SG-89) added 17. Ines Ajanovic (196-F/C-80) nailed 10 and Milica Dabovic (175-PG-82, agency: Interperformances) brought 7.
