Bogdan Bogdanovic selected the top Serbian playing abroad in last week's games - Mar 11, 2017

We bring you last week's top performances from Serbians who are playing abroad and who all have had prior experience of national team duties at youth or senior level.

   #1. This week's number one is an international swingman Bogdan Bogdanovic (198-92, currently plays in Euroleague). He could not help Fenerbahce (16-9) in their last game. Despite Bogdanovic's very good performance Fenerbahce lost 74-79 at home to the lower-ranked (#7) Baskonia. He was the top scorer with 26 points. Bogdanovic also added 8 assists in 34 minutes on the court. Bogdanovic has relatively good stats this year: 14.3ppg, 2.9rpg, 4.4apg, 1.1spg, 2FGP: 57.4%(39-68), 3FGP: 38.2% and FT: 86.5% in 13 games he played so far. He is currently a member of the Serbian senior national team.

   #2. Second place goes to an international center Vladimir Stimac (210-87, agency: Interperformances, currently plays in Basketball Champions League). Stimac was not able to help Besiktas (12-2) in their last game on Wednesday. Despite his very good performance the first-placed Besiktas (12-2) was defeated 90-83 on their home court in Istanbul by the second-ranked Pinar Karsiyaka in the group E of Basketball Champions League. Stimac recorded a double-double by scoring 16 points and getting 12 rebounds. It's Stimac's first season with the team. This year he has relatively solid stats: 13.3ppg, 9.5rpg, 1.2apg, 2FGP: 65.0%(78-120) and FT: 64.8%. Stimac is in the roster of the Serbian senior national team.

   #3. The Serbian player who performed third best last week abroad was an international center Nikola Jokic (209-95, agency: BeoBasket, currently plays in NBA). He was not able to secure a victory for the Denver Nuggets (30-35) in their last game. Despite Jokic's very good performance the Denver Nuggets (30-35) lost 102-112 on the road to the Charlotte Hornets. He had a double-double by scoring 31 points and getting 14 rebounds. Jokic also added 4 assists in 33 minutes. Jokic has individually a very good year with high stats. He averages: 16.0ppg, 9.3rpg, 4.6apg, 2FGP: 62.2%(327-526), 3FGP: 37.2% and FT: 79.8% in 56 games. Ex-BC Mega Leks player is also a member of the Serbian senior national team.

   #4. Guard Stefan Markovic (199-88, currently plays in EuroCup) couldn't help one of league's weakest teams Zenit (3-3) in their last game on Friday. Despite Markovic's very good performance Zenit was defeated 88-77 on their home court in Saint Petersburg by the leading Lokomotiv. He recorded a double-double by scoring 21 points and making 12 passes. Markovic has reliable stats this season: 11.9ppg, 3.3rpg, 9.1apg and 1.4spg. He is also Serbian national team player.

   #5. International point guard Nemanja Nedovic (191-91, currently plays in EuroCup) led his Spanish team Unicaja Malaga to a victory over the league leader Bayern Muenchen (6-0) 74-69 in the Eurocup last Wednesday. Nedovic was MVP of the game. He scored 21 points and added 4 assists in 22 minutes. It was the game of the round between two top 4 ranked teams. Unicaja Malaga (3-3) is placed second in the Eurocup. This year Nedovic's overall stats are: 9.5ppg, 2.0rpg and 3.8apg in 11 games. He plays currently for the Serbian national team.

   #6. Forward Nikola Kalinic (202-91, currently plays in Turkey) is a teammate of previously mentioned Bogdan Bogdanovic. But that was another game of his team in Turkish BSL which we would like to mention. Kalinic contributed to a 3-point Fenerbahce's victory against the fifth-ranked Darussafaka (13-7) 79-76 in a derby game. He scored 11 points and added 3 passes. Fenerbahce Istanbul (15-4) is placed first in the BSL. Kalinic's total stats this season are: 8.3ppg, 3.3rpg and 1.7apg. He is an international player who is currently on the senior Serbian National Team roster.

   #7. International point guard Milos Teodosic (195-87, currently plays in Euroleague) contributed to an easy victory against the 11th-ranked FC Barcelona (10-15) crushing them 85-61 in the Euroleague in Friday night's game. Teodosic scored 9 points and added 5 passes in 22 minutes. CSKA Moscow (19-6) is placed second in the Euroleague. It was his team's fourth consecutive victory in a row. Teodosic is one of the most experienced players in a team as it's his sixth year in CSKA's roster. He has very impressive stats this season: 15.6ppg, 2.4rpg and 7.2apg in 19 games. Teodosic is also Serbian national team player.

   #8. Center Dejan Musli (213-91, also represented by BeoBasket, currently plays in EuroCup) is a teammate of previously mentioned Nemanja Nedovic and both played together in the last Eurocup game. Musli was the major contributor in an Unicaja Malaga's victory against the league leader Bayern Muenchen (6-0) 74-69. He scored 16 points and grabbed 4 rebounds. Musli averaged so far 12.1ppg, 3.9rpg and 1.7apg. He used to play for the Serbian national team back in 2013.

   #9. Former international forward Vladimir Micov (201-85, another player represented by BeoBasket, currently plays in Euroleague) couldn't help Galatasaray (8-17) in their last game. Despite Micov's very good performance Galatasaray was badly defeated 85-69 in Moscow by the second-ranked CSKA. He was the top scorer with 18 points. Micov also added 3 assists in 30 minutes. Micov's stats this year are: 11.1ppg, 3.6rpg and 2.5apg in 24 games. He used to play for the Serbian national team three years ago.

Power forward Dusko Savanovic (204-83, another player represented by BeoBasket, currently plays in Basketball Champions League) was the main contributor in a 2-point Banco di Srd's victory against the leader Le Mans (9-5) 68-66 in the Basketball Champions League in Tuesday night's game. Savanovic was the best player in that game. He scored 15 points and grabbed 9 rebounds. Banco di Sardegna Sassari (7-7) is placed fifth in group E. Savanovic averaged so far 11.2ppg, 3.3rpg and 1.8apg. He is a former international player as three years ago he still played for the Serbian senior national team.

   #11. Former U20 international power forward Nikola Jankovic (207-94, another player represented by BeoBasket, currently plays in ABA League) couldn't help Un.Olimpija (10-15) in their last game. Despite Jankovic's very good performance Un.Olimpija was edged 94-92 on their home court in Ljubljana by the second-ranked Cedevita. He had a double-double by scoring 20 points and getting 10 rebounds. Jankovic also added 4 assists in 33 minutes. Jankovic has very impressive stats this year: 16.5ppg, 7.2rpg and 1.4spg in 24 games. He used to play for the Serbian U20 national team three years ago.

   #12. International small forward Vladimir Lucic (201-89, currently plays in EuroCup) faced previously mentioned Nemanja Nedovic in the Eurocup last game. Lucic couldn't help Bayern Muenchen (6-0) in their last game on Wednesday. Despite his good performance the league leader Bayern Muenchen was defeated 74-69 in Malaga by the second-ranked Unicaja. Lucic was the second best scorer with 13 points. He also added 6 rebounds. Lucic's total stats this season are: 8.5ppg and 2.8rpg. He is also in the roster of the Serbian national team.

   #13. International power forward Milan Macvan (206-89, currently plays in Euroleague) couldn't help Armani Milano in their game against Maccabi T-A in the Euroleague, despite his good performance in Thursday night's game. Macvan recorded 12 points and grabbed 7 rebounds in 31 minutes. But his team lost 82-92. This year Macvan's total stats are: 8.9ppg, 4.4rpg and 1.2apg in 23 games. He is also Serbian national team player.

   #14. International center Nikola Milutinov (212-94, currently plays in Greece) contributed to an easy victory against the 11th-ranked Lavrio crushing them 84-52 in the Greek A1 last Sunday. Milutinov scored 8 points, grabbed 5 rebounds and made 2 blocks. Milutinov has averaged so far 5.2ppg, 3.8rpg and 1.1bpg. He plays currently for the Serbian national team.

   #15. Former international center Rasko Katic (208-80, another player represented by BeoBasket, currently plays in Belgium) contributed to an easy victory against the sixth-ranked Limburg United crushing them 78-57 in the Belgian Euromillions League on Friday night. Katic was the top player that evening. He recorded 19 points and grabbed 5 rebounds in 28 minutes. Katic averaged so far 13.5ppg, 4.6rpg and 1.3apg in 22 games. He used to play for the Serbian national team three years ago.


The list of other players, who all have Serbian passport but never been selected to any of Serbian national teams:

   #1. Vladimir Jankovic (202-F-90, currently plays in Greece) could not help Aris (11-9) in their last game. Despite Jankovic's good performance Aris was badly defeated 70-54 on the road by the second-ranked Panathinaikos. He was the top scorer with 13 points. Jankovic also added 7 rebounds and made 2 blocks in 25 minutes. Jankovic has averaged so far 8.6ppg, 3.7rpg and 2.5apg in 15 games he played so far. He has a dual citizenship: Serbian and Greek.

   #2. Milan Stanojevic (183-G-86, agency: Mansfield and Associates, college: E.Washington, currently plays in Balkan League) was not able to help Teodo Tivat (3-3) in their last game on Tuesday. Despite Stanojevic's very good performance Teodo Tivat was edged 100-97 in Kavadarci by the higher-ranked Feni Industries (#7). He recorded a double-double by scoring 23 points and making 11 passes. Stanojevic averaged so far 13.7ppg, 2.2rpg, 6.0apg and 1.6spg.

   #3. Dusan Sakota (210-SF-86, agency: BeoBasket, currently plays in Basketball Champions League) was not able to secure a victory for AEK Athens (9-5) in their game against Monaco (12-2) in the Basketball Champions League. He scored 9 points and grabbed 5 rebounds. But AEK Athens (#2) was defeated 95-87 on the opponent's court by the leading Monaco in the group E of Basketball Champions League. Sakota averaged so far 13.5ppg, 4.1rpg and 1.8apg. He is another player who holds two passports: Serbian and Greek. Despite Sakota's Serbian nationality, he previously played for the Greek U20 national team and is probably not eligible to play for the Serbian team.

   #4. Boris Savovic (208-F-87, also represented by BeoBasket, currently plays in ABA League) was the major contributor in Buducnost's victory against the 12th-ranked MZT Skopje (8-17) crushing them 92-61 in the ABA League in Monday night's game. Savovic had a double-double by scoring 14 points and getting 17 rebounds. He also added and 3 steals in 27 minutes. KK Buducnost Voli Podgorica (18-7) is placed fourth in the ABA League. Savovic's team will play only one more game in the ABA League Regular Season. And that game will be critical. Savovic averaged so far 10.7ppg, 6.2rpg and 1.4apg in 20 games. He has both Serbian and Montenegrin nationalities. Despite Savovic's Serbian passport, he previously played for the Montenegrin U20 national team and probably cannot be called to the Serbian team.

   #5. DeMarcus Nelson (193-G-85, college: Duke, currently plays in France) contributed to an easy victory against the closely-ranked Paris-Levallois (12-9) 86-70 in the French ProA last Saturday. Nelson scored 9 points and added 8 assists. ASVEL Lyon-Villeurbanne Basket (11-10) is placed seventh in the ProA. It was his team's first victory after three consecutive loses. Nelson has averaged so far 9.1ppg, 4.6rpg, 4.4apg and 1.3spg. He is a naturalized American. Nelson used to play for Crvena Zvezda Telekom Beograd in Serbian league.

   #6. Experienced Uros Mirkovic (205-F/C-82, agency: BeoExcell, currently plays in Poland) led Polpharma to an easy victory against the third-ranked Twarde Pierniki 90-73 in the Polish PLK on Saturday night. He scored 15 points, had 7 rebounds and dished 4 assists. Mirkovic averaged so far 10.9ppg, 4.2rpg, 1.3apg and 1.1bpg.

   #7. Nikola Gacesa (206-F-87, college: TCU, currently plays in Iran) couldn't help Tabriz (0-2) in their last game. Despite his very good performance Tabriz (#4) was edged 110-108 at home by the leading Naft Abadan in the Group 1. Gacesa was the second best scorer with 26 points. He also added 6 rebounds in 41 minutes. Gacesa has individually a very good year with high stats. He averages: 17.6ppg, 5.7rpg and 1.2apg in 18 games.

   #8. Danilo Mijatovic (206-F/C-83, currently plays in FYR Macedonia) led Kumanovo to a victory over the third-ranked Strumica 79-62 in the FYR Macedonian Prva Liga last Saturday. Mijatovic was the top player that evening. He scored 26 points (!!!) and had 4 steals. This season Mijatovic has very high stats. He averages: 18.9ppg, 5.8rpg and 1.2spg.

   #9. Nikola Lepojevic (195-S/F-82, another player represented by BeoExcell, currently plays in Russia) was the main contributor in Universitet-Yugra's victory against the sixth-ranked Spartak Primorie Vladivostok crushing them 90-65 in the Russian Superleague 1 (second division) on Tuesday night. Lepojevic was the top player that evening. He scored 31 points (!!!), grabbed 6 rebounds and dished 4 assists. This season Lepojevic has very high stats. He averages: 22.3ppg, 3.9rpg, 1.9apg and 1.1spg.

   #10. Dusan Djordjevic (193-G-83, another player represented by BeoBasket, currently plays in FIBA Europe Cup) couldn't help Oostende in their game against Enisey in the FIBA Europe Cup. Djordjevic recorded 9 points, 4 rebounds and 4 assists. His team was defeated 84-72. Djordjevic averaged so far 13.7ppg, 5.3rpg and 6.0apg.

There were only 2 rounds played so far and it's still very beginning of the Second Stage in KLS. The most crucial game of the last round was a loss of Borac (1-1) in Cacak on Wednesday night. Hosts were edged by Mega Leks (1-1) 77-75. 26 personal fouls committed by Borac helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities.
