The games at this stage are more interesting as they can be crucial for the final standings in Regular Season. Despite we already know who is stronger and who is weaker, there may be still last minute susprises and upsets.

Extraliga round 31 caused change at the leadership position. Ninth defeat of league's leader Prievidza (19-9) against third ranked Komarno (17-10) 92-85 was the most important game of the last round. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Prievidza. The hosts trailed by 3 points at the halftime before their 47-37 charge in the second half, which allowed them to win the game. Komarno made 16-of-21 free shots (76.2 percent) during the game. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Komarno made 7 blocks. Worth to mention a great performance of American guard Johnathon Jones (183-88, college: Oakland, agency: TSS Management) who helped to win the game recording 20 points and 4 assists. His fellow American import power forward Louis Johnson (203-86, college: W.Illinois, agency: Pro Partner Sports Management) contributed with 15 points and 8 rebounds (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field) for the winners. American guard David Godbold (196-85, college: Oklahoma, agency: Scorers 1st Sportmanagement) answered with a double-double by scoring 22 points and 11 rebounds for Prievidza. Komarno have a solid series of four victories in a row. They maintain third place with 17-10 record having just three points less than leader Nitra. Prievidza at the other side still keeps top position with nine games lost. They were joined at the leadership position by Nitra who have the same record. Prievidza will have a break next week, which should allow them to rest and make it back to the top of the standings. Komarno will try to continue on its current victory against first ranked Nitra in Nitra.

However their fans expected easier game. It was a great evening for the former international point guard Robert Nuber (187-83) who led his team to a victory scoring 27 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists. Branislav Tomek helped adding 13 points and 9 rebounds. At the losing side American guard Corey Jefferson (183-85, college: Texas St.) responded with 27 points, 5 rebounds, 6 assists and 4 steals. Nitra keeps a position of league leader, which they share with Prievidza. Nova Ves at the other side keep the fifth place with 14 games lost. Nitra will play against Komarno (#3) at home in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Nova Ves will play against Handlova and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
An interesting game was also surprising road defeat of 4th ranked Handlova in a game versus Levice (#7) 78-74. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Handlova. It was an exceptional evening for Eric Sanchez who led the winners and scored 21 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. Levice's coach used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. Anthony Jones came up with 22 points, 5 rebounds and 7 assists for Handlova in the defeat. Newly promoted Levice maintains seventh place with 12-16 record. Loser Handlova keeps the fourth position with 12 games lost. Levice will meet bottom-ranked Vahostav-Zilina (#9) on the road in the next round. Handlova will play against Nova Ves (#5) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
Bottom-ranked Vahostav-Zilina managed to get a seventh victory. This time they won against eighth-ranked SKP Banska Bystrica 84-79. Dejan Stojanovic fired 20 points and 8 rebounds (on 9-of-11 shooting from the field) for the winners. Vahostav-Zilina (7-20) moved-up to eighth place, which they share with B.Bystrica. SKP Banska Bystrica lost seventh consecutive game. Vahostav-Zilina's next round opponent will be higher ranked Levice (#7) at home and it will be quite challenging to get another victory.



Komarno - Prievidza 92-85

Handlova trailed by 17 points after 3 quarters before a 30-17 run in the last quarter cut the deficit to 74-78 at the end of the game. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Levice made 8 blocks. It was an exceptional evening for Spanish point guard Eric Sanchez (181-82, agency: Dynamics Global Management) who led the winners and scored 21 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. American forward Dior Lowhorn (201-87, college: USF) accounted for 10 points and 11 rebounds for the winning side. Levice's coach used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. B.Bystrica - Vahostav-Zilina 79-84

Bottom-ranked Vahostav-Zilina managed to get a seventh victory. This time they won against eighth-ranked SKP Banska Bystrica 84-79. It looked good early as SKP Banska Bystrica took an 2-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then Vahostav-Zilina had a 28-18 second period charge getting the lead and SKP Banska Bystrica was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 79-84. Strangely SKP Banska Bystrica outrebounded Vahostav-Zilina 40-28 including a 20-6 advantage in offensive rebounds. 27 personal fouls committed by SKP Banska Bystrica helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. Serbian center Dejan Stojanovic (206-78) fired 20 points and 8 rebounds (on 9-of-11 shooting from the field) for the winners. point guard Jan Zavodny (187-87) chipped in 18 points and 5 rebounds. American forward Marcus Kitts (205-89, college: William & Mary) produced a double-double by scoring 15 points and 14 rebounds and guard Branislav Koczkas (178-82) added 19 points and 5 rebounds respectively for lost side. Defending champion BC Prievidza (SBL) landed 31-year old American (has also Swedish passport) point guard Omar Krayem (186-87kg-86, college: Cal.Baptist). He played in the summer at Globalport in Filipino PBA league. Krayem managed to play in three leagues last year (!!!).
