Marie Ruzickova selected the top Slovakian playing abroad in last week's games - Nov 5, 2012

Traditionally, every week we bring you a list of the top performances of Slovakians who are currently playing abroad.

   #1. This week's number one is former international center Marie Ruzickova (189-86, agency: LBM Management, currently plays in Italy). She led Lucca to a victory over the closely-ranked Cagliari CUS (1-2) 69-62 in the Italian A1 in Sunday night's game. Ruzickova was MVP of the game. She scored 19 points and grabbed 6 rebounds in 40 minutes on the court. Gesam Gas Le Mura Lucca (5-2) is placed fourth in the A1. But this is still an early stage of the season and everything may happen. Ruzickova is ranked fourth on the list of the top scorers in the league and also on the list of best rebounders (third place). She has individually a very good year with high stats. Ruzickova averages: 16.3ppg, 10.0rpg, 1.3apg, 2.7spg, 2FGP: 52.3% and FT: 33.3% in the three games she played so far. She played for the Slovakian senior national team four years ago.

Darina Misurova

   #2. Second place goes to an international point guard Darina Misurova (163-81, currently plays in Czech Republic). Misurova contributed to a Sokol Hradec Kralove's victory against the eighth-ranked Lokomotiva Karlovy Vary (3-6) 79-73 in the Czech Republic ZBL last Sunday. She scored 8 points. Sokol VCP Hradec Kralove (8-1) is placed second in the ZBL. It was her team's eighth consecutive victory in a row. Misurova has relatively good stats this season: 14.4ppg, 3.2rpg, 1.9apg, 1.4spg, 2FGP: 58.7%(27-46), 3FGP: 39.6% and FT: 81.3%. She played for the Slovakian national team in 2011.

   #3. The Slovakian player who performed third best last week abroad was an international swingman Andrea Oravcova (182-87, agency: Regeneracom Sports, currently plays in Spain), who plays in the Spanish LFB. Oravcova could not help Cadi ICG Software (1-2) to beat Rivas Ecopolis (4-0). She recorded 9 points in 27 minutes. But Cadi ICG Software was edged 86-83 on the road by the leading Rivas Ecopolis. But the season just started, so everything may happen. This year Oravcova's overall stats are: 8.0ppg, 3.0rpg, 1.3apg, 1.3spg, 3FGP: 44.4% in the three games. She played for the Slovakian national team one years ago.

   #4. Center Anna Jurcenkova (195-85, currently plays in Czech Republic) managed to help IMOS Brno to win against the closely-ranked Kara Trutnov (6-3) crushing them 85-61 in the Czech Republic ZBL in Saturday night's game. Jurcenkova scored only 4 points and blocked 3 blocks. It was the game of the round between two top 4 ranked teams. IMOS Brno (7-2) is placed third in the ZBL. Jurcenkova is currently first on the list of best blockers. Her total stats this season are: 9.3ppg, 5.6rpg, 1.4bpg and 1.1spg. Jurcenkova is also Slovakian national team player.

   #5. International center Klaudia Lukacovicova (193-90, currently plays in Italy), who plays in the Italian A1 was not able to help CA Romagna (1-3) in their last game. Despite her good performance CA Romagna was badly defeated 68-51 on the opponent's court by the leading Umbertide. Lukacovicova was the top scorer with 14 points. She also added 4 rebounds in 29 minutes. It was CA Romagna's third consecutive loss in a row. But the season is still in it's first stage and everything can happen. This year Lukacovicova's total stats are: 9.3ppg and 6.0rpg in the four games. She plays currently for the Slovakian national team.

   #6. Forward Barbora Fabianova (182-82, also represented by LBM Management, college: Youngstown St., currently plays in Italy) faced previously mentioned Marie Ruzickova in the Italian A1 last game. Fabianova was not able to secure a victory for Cagliari CUS (1-2) in their game against Lucca (5-2). She scored 5 points. Cagliari CUS was defeated 69-62 on the opponent's court by the higher-ranked Lucca (#4). But there are still lots of games to play and it's a long way to go. This season Fabianova averages only 4.7ppg. She is a former international player as she played for the Slovakian senior team four years ago.

   #7. International point guard Dagmar Chlebovcova (172-84, currently plays in Czech Republic) helped VSE Praha win their game against the tenth-ranked DSK Karlin (2-7) crushing them 93-66 in the Czech Republic ZBL on Saturday night. She scored only 4 points in 21 minutes. BLK VSE Praha (3-4) is placed second in the ZBL. Chlebovcova has averaged so far 6.1ppg, 1.9rpg and 1.1apg in the nine games. She used to play for the Slovakian national team last year.

   #8. Guard Michaela Abelova (183-85, currently plays in Germany) helped SV Halle Lions edge the league outsider Wildcats Wolfenbuettel (0-3) 66-64 in the German DBBL in Saturday night's game. Abelova scored 6 points. SV Halle Lions (4-2) is placed third in the DBBL. It's Abelova's fourth season with the team. This year she averages only 9.0ppg. Abelova used to play for the Slovakian national team last year.

University international point guard Diana Benuskova (170-89, currently plays in Czech Republic) couldn't help Aldast Strakonice (1-8) in their game against Valosun Brno (4-5) in the Czech Republic ZBL. She scored 5 points in 21 minutes. The bottom-ranked Aldast Strakonice was crushed 94-71 in Brno by the higher-ranked (#7) Valosun. It was Aldast Strakonice's fourth consecutive loss in a row. Benuskova has averaged so far 5.7ppg, 2.9rpg and 1.6apg in the nine games. She used to play for the Slovakian university national team last year.

   #1. Viera Libicova (190-C-80, currently plays in Czech Republic), who plays in the Czech Republic ZBL could not help Aldast Strakonice (1-8) to beat Valosun Brno (4-5). Libicova scored 6 points and grabbed 8 rebounds in 16 minutes. The bottom-ranked Aldast Strakonice was crushed 94-71 on the road by the higher-ranked (#7) Valosun Brno. It was Aldast Strakonice's fourth consecutive loss in a row. This year Libicova has relatively solid stats: 10.7ppg, 5.9rpg and 1.2spg in the nine games she played so far.

   #2. Zuzana Mracnova (180-F-80, currently plays in Czech Republic) is a teammate of previously mentioned Viera Libicova and both played together in the last Czech Republic ZBL game. Mracnova was not able to help Aldast Strakonice (1-8) in their game against Valosun Brno (4-5). She scored 9 points. But the bottom-ranked Aldast Strakonice was crushed 94-71 in Brno by the higher-ranked Valosun (#7). Mracnova has averaged so far 8.8ppg, 3.0rpg and 1.2apg.

MBK Ruzomberok (Extraliga) re-signed 23-year old Canadian forward Taijah Campbell (190-94, college: Virginia Tech). She played there last season. In 25 Extraliga games she averaged 9.2ppg, 6.0rpg, 1.1apg and 1.0spg. Campbell helped them to make it to the semifinals. A very good season in her career as she was selected to Eurobasket.com Slovakian Extraliga All-Imports Team and Honorable Mention. When you take into account the size-quality ratio, Slovakia is a highly successful women's basketball country. From 1993 until 2003 Slovakia women's national team achieved six straight 'Top 8 finishes at the EuroBasket Women. Slovakia won the bronze medal at the EuroBasket Women 1993 in Perugia, Italy and went all the way to the silver medal four years later in Budapest, Hungary. Piestanske Cajky adds Kasparkova to their roster, ex Handicap Brno - 6 days ago
Piestanske Cajky (Extraliga) added to their roster 25-year old Czech power forward Barbora Kasparkova (185-92). She has played for the last eight seasons at Handicap Brno in ZBL league in Czech Republic. In 22 games she recorded 6.5ppg, 3.3rpg and 1.5spg last season. Kasparkova's team won Czech Republic Cup in 2013 and 2017.
