Here is the weekly review of the top performing Slovakian players, who play currently abroad.


Anton Gavel

   #1. This week's number one is an international point guard Anton Gavel (188-84, agency: Pro One Sports, currently plays in Germany). He led Brose Baskets Bamberg to a 2-point victory over the closely-ranked ratiopharm Ulm (8-4) 85-83 in the German BBL in Sunday night's game. Gavel was MVP of the game. He scored 30 points (!!!) and added 3 assists in 40 minutes on the court. It was the game of the round between two top 4 ranked teams. Brose Baskets Bamberg (9-1) is placed first in the BBL. It was his team's seventh consecutive victory in a row. But this is still an early stage of the season and everything may happen. It's Gavel's fourth year with the team. Gavel has relatively good stats this season: 13.8ppg, 3.0rpg, 3.6apg, 2FGP: 61.7%(29-47), 3FGP: 42.9% and FT: 76.5% in the 10 games he played so far. He is currently a member of the Slovakian senior national team.

Radoslav Rancik

   #2. Second place goes to an experienced former international power forward Radoslav Rancik (207-79, agency: Beo Basket, college: St.Cloud St., currently plays in Eurocup), who plays in Czech Republic. Rancik could not help CEZ Nymburk (3-2) in their last game on Wednesday. Despite his very good performance the league leader CEZ Nymburk was defeated 72-62 on the road by the second-ranked Budivelnyk. Rancik recorded a double-double by scoring 17 points and getting 10 rebounds. His team will play only one more game in the Eurocup Regular Season. And that game will be critical. This season Rancik has relatively solid stats: 13.2ppg, 6.8rpg, 2FGP: 45.9%, 3FGP: 37.5% and FT: 77.8%. Former BK Inter Bratislava starter played for the Slovakian national team in 2010.

   #3. The Slovakian player who performed third best last week abroad was an international forward Pavol Losonsky (203-88, college: Cal-Irvine, currently plays in United Kingdom). He led Leicester Riders to a victory against the seventh-ranked Glasgow Rocks (6-4) 85-73 in the British BBL on Sunday night. Losonsky recorded 16 points and grabbed 4 rebounds in 23 minutes; quite an impressive performance considering it's only his second season in pro basketball. Jelson Homes DMU Leicester City Riders (12-1) is placed first in the BBL. It was his team's fourth consecutive victory in a row. Losonsky has individually a very good year with high stats. He averages: 16.2ppg, 6.8rpg, 1.9apg, 2FGP: 51.9%, 3FGP: 38.9% and FT: 71.7% in the 12 games. Losonsky is also a member of the Slovakian senior national team.

   #4. Center Peter Sedmak (207-85, currently plays in Czech Republic), who plays in the Czech Republic NBL was not able to help BK Decin (7-6) in their last game on Saturday. Despite his very good performance BK Decin was defeated 82-75 at home by the higher-ranked BK Pardubice (#4). Sedmak was the top scorer with 20 points. He also added 4 rebounds. This season Sedmak has very high stats. He averages: 15.8ppg, 5.3rpg and 1.5apg. Sedmak used to play for the Slovakian national team last year.

Dusan Pandula

   #5. International small forward Dusan Pandula (196-84, currently plays in Czech Republic) contributed to an easy victory against the closely-ranked NH Ostrava (13-2) crushing them 95-65 in the Czech Republic NBL last Saturday. He had a double-double by scoring 11 points and getting 10 rebounds. Pandula also added 4 assists in 24 minutes. It was the game of the round between two top 4 ranked teams. BK Prostejov (8-6) is placed third in the NBL. It was his team's third consecutive victory in a row. Pandula has reliable stats this year: 11.1ppg, 5.0rpg and 2.4apg in the 14 games. He plays currently for the Slovakian national team.

   #6. Shooting guard Roman Marko (194-86, currently plays in Czech Republic) is a teammate of previously mentioned Dusan Pandula and both played together in the last Czech Republic NBL game. Marko contributed to an easy victory against the closely-ranked NH Ostrava (13-2) crushing them 95-65. He scored 7 points and grabbed 7 rebounds in 26 minutes. It's Marko's first season with the team. This year Marko's overall stats are: 7.4ppg, 3.6rpg and 2.1apg in the 14 games. He is an international player who is currently on the senior Slovakian National Team roster.

Former international power forward Justin Sedlak (205-87, college: Florida Tech, currently plays in Sweden) contributed to an easy victory against the league outsider Nassjo (3-13) crushing them 88-61 in the Swedish Basketligan last Tuesday. Sedlak scored 13 points. Solna Vikings (8-7) is placed seventh in the Basketligan. Sedlak's stats this season are: 13.7ppg and 5.3rpg. He used to play for the Slovakian national team two years ago.

Martin Miklosik

   #8. Center Martin Miklosik (225-86, currently plays in Czech Republic) contributed to a B&W Opava's victory against the closely-ranked Basketbal Svitavy (4-11) 87-73 in the Czech Republic NBL on Saturday night. He scored 10 points, had 7 rebounds and made 2 blocks in 25 minutes. BK Breda & Weinstein Opava (6-9) is placed tenth in the NBL. Miklosik is ranked third on the list of the best blockers in the league with 1.5bpg. This year his other stats are: 6.1ppg and 5.3rpg in the 15 games. Worth to mention Miklosik played also at Eurobasket Summer League, which helped him get the job in pro basketball. Miklosik used to play for the Slovakian national team back in 2010.

   #9. Former international point guard Richard Grznar (189-91, currently plays in Czech Republic) was not able to secure a victory for Levice (6-8) in their game against B&W Opava (6-9) in the Czech Republic NBL. He scored 8 points. It was his first game for Levice this season. Levice was crushed 83-55 in Opava by the lower-ranked B&W Opava (#10). Grznar used to play for the Slovakian national team two years ago.

   #10. Center Boris Bojanovsky (221-93, currently plays college basketball in the States) couldn't help the Florida St. in their game against the Mercer University (0-0) in the NCAA. Bojanovsky cannot count Sunday's game as one of the best ones. He scored only 3 points in 13 minutes. The Florida St. lost 56-61 on their home court in Tallahassee, FL to the Mercer University. This year Bojanovsky's total stats are: 3.8ppg, 1.4rpg, 1.7apg and 1.1spg in the 14 games. He is U20 international player who is currently on the Slovakian National Team roster.

   #11. International swingman Martin Sykora (192-81, currently plays in Czech Republic) is a teammate of previously mentioned Richard Grznar and both played together in the last Czech Republic NBL game. Sykora couldn't help Levice in their game against B&W Opava. He cannot count Saturday's game as one of the best ones. Sykora scored only 1 points. His team was crushed by 28 points 83-55. He has averaged so far 5.6ppg and 3.4rpg. Sykora plays currently for the Slovakian national team.

   #1. Darius Silinskis (216-C-84, agency: Interperformances, currently plays in Lithuania) contributed to Nevezis' victory against the ninth-ranked Pieno Zvaigzdes (3-5) 76-70 in the Lithuanian LKL on Saturday night. Silinskis recorded 10 points and grabbed 6 rebounds. Nevezis Kedainiai (5-4) is placed third in the LKL. It was his team's fifth consecutive victory in a row. Silinskis belongs to league's best blockers and is ranked #2. His overall stats this season are: 7.7ppg, 4.6rpg, 1.2apg and 1.9bpg.

   #2. Peter Simek (205-C-88, agency: Dynamics Global Management, college: Cal-Irvine, currently plays in United Kingdom) managed to help Surrey Heat in a victory against the tenth-ranked Manchester Giants (4-9) 83-71 in the British BBL last Saturday. He recorded 5 points in 2 minutes. Surrey Heat (9-2) is placed third in the BBL. But the season just started, so everything may happen. This year Simek's total stats are: 5.5ppg and 4.4rpg in the 11 games he played so far.

   #3. Lukas Varga (183-G-85, college: Coker, currently plays in Denmark) contributed to a Horsens IC's victory against the league outsider Aalborg (1-13) 85-71 in the Danish Ligaen on Wednesday night. He scored 5 points. Horsens IC (10-4) is placed third in the Ligaen. Varga's total stats this season are: 3.8ppg, 1.4rpg, 1.7apg and 1.1spg. He has a dual citizenship: German and Slovakian.

   #4. Filip Kramer (200-SF-92, currently plays in Austria) helped Kapfenberg Bulls win their n overtime game against the closely-ranked Gussing Knights (5-4) 87-76 in the Austrian A Bundesliga last Sunday. Kramer recorded 5 points. ECE Bulls Kapfenberg (6-3) is placed fourth in the A Bundesliga. It was his team's third consecutive victory in a row. Kramer has averaged so far 4.4ppg and 3.0rpg. He is another player who holds two passports: Slovakian and Austrian.

   #5. Experienced Stefan Svitek (203-F/C-77, currently plays in Luxembourg), who plays in the Luxembourg Diekirch League could not help Basket Esch (2-7) in their last game. Despite Svitek's good performance Basket Esch lost 68-72 at home to the higher-ranked (#4) Amicale. He scored 14 points and grabbed 6 rebounds in 32 minutes. Svitek is currently sixth on the league's list of best rebounders with 9.9rpg. This year his other stats are: 15.5ppg, 1.6apg and 1.1spg in the 11 games.

Lapuan Korikobrat (Korisliiga) inked 28-year old American guard Mario Edwards (191-90kg-88, college: Co.Carolina, agency: Mansfield and Associates). He played most recently at BK Esprit Kosice in Slovakian SBL league. Edwards managed to play in three leagues in two countries last year (!!!). In 34 SBL games he averaged 8.2ppg, 4.4rpg and 4.1apg. MBK Rieker Com Therm Komarno (SBL) signed 28-year old Slovenian guard Boban Tomic (190-88). He played last season at Krka in Slovenian Liga Nova KBM. Tomic managed to play in four leagues in two countries last year (!!!). In 10 Liga Nova KBM games he had 7.0ppg, 2.4rpg and 2.6apg. He helped them to win the cup and make to league semifinals. Slovakia - Switzerland 88:78 Slovakia finished second at the friendly tournament in Prievidza. The hosts wrapped up their campaign with a convincing win over Switzerland. Milan Ziak (190-G-88) produced 18 points for the winners. Slovakia eked out a 25:23 lead ten minutes into the game. They extended the margin in the second quarter.
