The most exciting game of round 16 in the Extraliga took place in Nitra. This derby game ended with only three-point home defeat of 3rd ranked Nitra (9-6) to fifth ranked Prievidza (7-7) 75-72 on Saturday evening. The guests trailed by 13 points after first quarter, but they rallied back and won the game by 3 points. Prievidza made 23-of-30 free shots (76.7 percent) during the game. Prievidza had a 24-13 advantage in offensive rebounds. American forward Joseph Harris (196-87, college: Co.Carolina) fired 20 points (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field) for the winners. The other American import guard David Godbold (196-85, college: Oklahoma) chipped in 20 points (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field). The former international center Branislav Tomek (205-83) produced 15 points and 7 rebounds for lost side. Defending champion maintains fifth position with 7-7 record. Nitra at the other side keeps the third place with six games lost. They share the position with Nova Ves. Prievidza will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Nitra will play at home against SKP Banska Bystrica and is hoping to win this game.

Visiting Levice was defeated by SKP Banska Bystrica in Banska Bystrica 79-68. Worth to mention a great performance of American point guard Brockeith Pane (188-88, college: Utah St.) who helped to win the game recording 24 points (made all of his seven free throws). Noah Dahlman contributed with 17 points and 7 rebounds for the winners. American guard Brandon Fields (193-88, college: Nevada) replied with 20 points and 6 rebounds for Levice. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. SKP Banska Bystrica moved-up to seventh place. Levice at the other side keeps the second position with five games lost. SKP Banska Bystrica will play against higher ranked Nitra (#4) in Nitra in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Levice will play at home against Svit and hopes to get back on the winning track.
Leader Komarno delivered the twelfth victory on Saturday night. This time they beat 6th ranked Inter Bratislava (6-8) 89-71. Worth to mention a quality performance of Chris Lowe who helped to win the game recording 23 points. At the losing side Martin Rancik responded with 35 points (!!!). Komarno (12-2) have an impressive five-game winning streak. They maintain first position. Inter Bratislava lost third consecutive game. They keep the sixth place with eight games lost. Komarno will meet at home Handlova (#8) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Inter Bratislava will play against Nova Ves and hope to secure a win.

In the last game of round 16 Nova Ves defeated Svit in a road game 94-79.


Inter Bratislava - Komarno 71-89

Leader Komarno delivered the twelfth victory on Saturday night. This time they beat 6th ranked Inter Bratislava (6-8) 89-71. The guests trailed by 3 points at the halftime before their 54-33 charge in the second half, which allowed them to win the game. Komarno outrebounded Inter Bratislava 35-22 including 24 on the defensive glass. Worth to mention a quality performance of American point guard Chris Lowe (182-87, college: Massachusetts, agency: KMG Sports Management) who helped to win the game recording 23 points and the other American import forward Kevin Thompson (205-89, college: Morgan St.) who added 18 points and 9 rebounds during the contest. Four Komarno players scored in double figures. At the losing side the former international power forward Martin Rancik (204-78, college: Iowa St.) responded with 35 points (!!!) and American guard Justin Graham (193-88, college: San Jose St.) scored 15 points. Komarno (12-2) have an impressive five-game winning streak. They maintain first position. Inter Bratislava lost third consecutive game. They keep the sixth place with eight games lost. There was no surprise when 9th ranked Svit (3-12) was defeated at home by fourth ranked Nova Ves (9-6) 94-79 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by Nova Ves. Svit managed to win second period 23-20. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Worth to mention a great performance of American point guard Maurice Acker (178-87, college: Marquette) who helped to win the game recording 30 points and 5 assists and the other American import power forward Dwight Burke (202-86, college: Marquette) who added 20 points and 12 rebounds during the contest. Burke is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Four Nova Ves players scored in double figures. Nova Ves' coach used a ten-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. At the losing side Australian guard Anthony Stewart (196-70) responded with a double-double by scoring 16 points and 10 rebounds and American guard Curtis Allen (193-86, college: ORU, agency: TSS Management) scored 12 points and 9 rebounds. Nova Ves moved-up to third place, which they share with Nitra. Loser Svit stay at the bottom position with 12 games lost. Nova Ves will meet at home Inter Bratislava (#6) in the next round. Svit will play against the league's second-placed Levice and hope to secure a win.

Visiting Levice was defeated by SKP Banska Bystrica in Banska Bystrica 79-68. The game was mostly controlled by SKP Banska Bystrica. Levice was better in third quarter 23-11. They brought some defensive toughness making 7 blocks. Levice was plagued by 25 personal fouls down the stretch. Defending champion BC Prievidza (SBL) landed 31-year old American (has also Swedish passport) point guard Omar Krayem (186-87kg-86, college: Cal.Baptist). He played in the summer at Globalport in Filipino PBA league. Krayem managed to play in three leagues last year (!!!).
