Experienced former international power forward Martin Rancik (204-F/C-78) put on an extraordinary performance in the last round for Inter Bratislava and that's him to receive a Eurobasket.com Player of the Week award for round 23. The 34-year old power forward had the game-high 37 points adding six rebounds for Inter Bratislava in his team's victory, helping them to outclass Handlova (#8, 6-13) with 35-point margin 107-72. Inter Bratislava maintains the 6th position in Slovakian Extraliga. Inter Bratislava is a typical solid league team placed somewhere in the middle or a little bit lower in the standings. They need more victories to improve their 10-11 record. In the team's last game Rancik had a remarkable 53.3% from 2-point range and got six three-pointers out of 9 attempts. He turned to be Inter Bratislava's top player in his first season with the team. Martin Rancik averages this season 25.8ppg and 7.3rpg.
The second most remarkable performance in last round's games was 26-year old American Dwight Burke (202-C/F-86) of Nova Ves. Burke impressed basketball fans with a double-double of 26 points and 11 rebounds. Bad luck as Nova Ves was edged by slightly higher-ranked Nitra (#3, 13-8) 96-94. It was definitely game of the week between two contenders to the title. Nova Ves still maintains its place in the top 4 of the standings, even despite this loss. His team's 11-10 record is not bad at all. Burke is a newcomer at Nova Ves and it seems he did not have too much trouble to become one of team's leaders. He belongs to the best scorers in the league with 17.2ppg (#2). He also registered 7.7 boards per game. Marquette University alumni Burke played also at Eurobasket Summer League, which is considered top summer league for players who want to play basketball overseas.
The third best performed player last round was American Joseph Harris (196-F-87) of Prievidza (#5). Harris scored 24 points and grabbed seven rebounds. Despite Harris' great performance Prievidza lost 75-81 to the higher-ranked Levice (#2, 13-6). But his team cannot count on just a single player as he also needs help of the other teammates. The last thing Prievidza needs is to lose another game like this one. They lose more and more distance to the top teams. Their record is 10 victories and 10 lost games. Harris has a great season in Slovakia. After 18 games, he made it on the list of the league's leaders in points with 16.6ppg (5th best). He also has 2.2spg and FGP: 55.2%.
Other top performing players last week: 4. J.R. Cadot (195-G-87) of Nitra - 25 points, 13 rebounds and 6 assists 5. David Godbold (196-G-85) of Prievidza - 22 points, 7 rebounds and 2 assists 6. Kevin Bridgewaters (175-G-84) of Handlova - 21 points, 5 rebounds and 7 assists 7. Maurice Acker (178-PG-87) of Nova Ves - 37 points, 5 rebounds and 7 assists 8. Maros Rendla (195-G/F-88) of B.Bystrica - 15 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists 9. Aco Mandic (204-C/F-84) of Nova Ves - 19 points and 9 rebounds 10. Chris Lowe (182-PG-87) of Komarno - 21 points, 6 rebounds and 3 assists
The Player of the week is choosen based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc. The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it's accuracy. The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3*(REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) - 2*BSAG - 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4*(2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM - 3*(2FGPA-2FGPM) - 3*(3FGPA-3FGPM) - (FTA-FTM)

Vasas Akademia (NB I. B) added to their roster experienced 35-year old American point guard Ronnie Taylor (187-90kg-81, college: NC-Greensboro, agency: Octagon Europe). He played last season at Inter Bratislava in Slovakian SBL league. In 19 games he recorded very impressive stats: 15.4ppg, 3.3rpg, 6.6apg (top 3) and 1.2spg. Taylor helped them to win the cup and make to league semifinals. A very spectacular season in his career as he was voted to Eurobasket.com Slovakian League All-Imports Team and 2nd Team. He also played for Orchesien BC (ProB) in French league that season where in 10 games Taylor averaged 10.7ppg, 3.0rpg and 3.3apg. He is quite experienced player. Thanks to Taylor's pro career he managed to play on four different continents (Europe, Asia, Latin America and of course North America) in seven different countries. Taylor has played previously professionally in Germany, Iraq (Duhok), Lebanon (Homenetmen), Qatar (Al Wakrah), France (Pau-Lacq-Orthez, Etendard de Brest, SPO Rouen, Le Portel and Boulazac Basket), Hungary (Marso Nyiregyhazi KK) and Dominican Republic (Soles de Santo Domingo). It's very possible he may end his playing career at Vasas Akademia. Taylor attended University of North Carolina, Greensboro until 2004 and it will be his 13th (hopefully lucky) (!!!) season as a professional player. The scouts decsribe him following way:
Ronnie Taylor understands the game and knows how it's played. He's a point guard who scores without forcing the issue, but is not afraid to take responsibility when needed. If the situation asks to get teammates involved he will reduce his scoring output and add to his assist total. Offensively, Ronnie posesses great ball handling skills, always plays under control and does not falter against full court or half court pressure. Being a natural right hand of the coach, Ronnie is also able to create and break a play to score. Defensively, his quick hands and footwork help him a lot to stay in front of his opponent and come up with steals. Ronnie is a leader on the court who can score in many ways and has all the skills to make the players around him look better. He's a clutch player with cold blood when the game is on the line in the last minutes. Ronnie is extremely dangerous in the transition phase almost always making the right decision. He can go coast to coast, pull up for the shot, or find the right guy running the lanes. In the half court set Ronnie also has many options to choose from. He is an excellent pick and roll player as he is able to turn the corner and take it to the hole. When the defense cheats or switches he can hit the three or take a bigger guy one-on-one. In addition to his skills on both ends of the floor he has the necessary desire and drive to win every game.
