Bottom-ranked Svit managed to get a fifth victory, breaking the two-game losing streak on Saturday night. This time they won against fourth-ranked Nova Ves 95-89. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Nova Ves won fourth quarter 31-27. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. It was a good game for American guard Lamar Grimes (182-83, college: Indiana St.) who led his team to a victory with 28 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists. The other American import swingman Sean Smith (201-85, college: N.Illinois) contributed with 23 points and 10 rebounds for the winners. American point guard Maurice Acker (178-87, college: Marquette) replied with 34 points (!!!) for Nova Ves. Svit maintains ninth position with 5-17 record. Nova Ves lost fifth consecutive game. They keep the fourth place with 11 games lost. Svit are looking forward to face league's second-placed Levice at home in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. Nova Ves will play against Inter Bratislava and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
Extraliga top team - Komarno (16-5) managed to deliver another win. This time they beat sixth ranked Inter Bratislava (10-12) 85-76. Worth to mention a quality performance of American forward Kevin Thompson (205-89, college: Morgan St.) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 12 points and 15 rebounds and Chris Lowe who added 16 points and 5 rebounds during the contest. The best for the losing side was the former international power forward Martin Rancik (204-78, college: Iowa St.) with a double-double by scoring 34 points (!!!), 10 rebounds and 4 assists. Komarno maintains first position with 16-5 record. Inter Bratislava at the other side keeps the sixth place with 12 games lost. Komarno will play against Handlova (#8) on the road in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Inter Bratislava will play against Nova Ves and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
The game in Prievidza was also quite interesting. Third ranked Nitra (14-8) played at the court of 5th ranked Prievidza (10-11). Nitra defeated Prievidza 98-85 on Saturday. The winners were led by Branislav Tomek who scored that evening 16 points and 9 rebounds (perfect from the field making all six shots). Even 31 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists by Joseph Harris did not help to save the game for Prievidza. Nitra maintains third position with 14-8 record having just one points less than leader Komarno. Defending champion Prievidza keeps the fifth place with 11 games lost. Nitra will meet SKP Banska Bystrica (#7) on the road in the next round. Prievidza will have a break next round.
The game between second ranked Levice (15-6) and 8th ranked Handlova (6-14) in Levice ended with biggest points difference. Levice outscored guests from Handlova 95-64. The best player for the winners was Brian Addison who had a double-double by scoring 20 points and 10 rebounds (on 8-of-9 shooting from the field). The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Levice have an impressive five-game winning streak. They maintain second position with 15-6 record behind leader Komarno. Handlova at the other side keeps the eighth place with 14 games lost. Levice's next round opponent will be bottom-ranked Svit (#9) on the road and are hoping to win another game. Handlova will play against the league's leader Komarno.

In the last game of round 24 B.Bystrica was beaten by Levice on the road 80-67.


Levice - B.Bystrica 80-67

No shocking result in a game when second ranked Levice (15-6) beat at home 7th ranked SKP Banska Bystrica (9-12) 80-67. The game was mostly controlled by Levice. SKP Banska Bystrica was better in third quarter 23-16. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Levice players were unselfish on offense dishing 21 assists. The best player for the winners was Slovenian center Salih Nuhanovic (208-82) who had a double-double by scoring 15 points and 15 rebounds. American forward Jeremy Simmons (204-89, college: Charleston, agency: Interperformances) chipped in a double-double by scoring 15 points and 10 rebounds. Four Levice players scored in double figures. At the other side the best for losing team was Croatian guard Sven Smajlagic (193-90) who recorded 15 points and 7 rebounds and swingman Maros Rendla (195-88) added 18 points respectively. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Levice have an impressive five-game winning streak. They maintain second position with 15-6 record behind leader Komarno. SKP Banska Bystrica at the other side keeps the seventh place with 12 games lost. Levice's next round opponent will be bottom-ranked Svit (#9) on the road and are hoping to win another game. SKP Banska Bystrica will play against Nitra in Nitra.

Extraliga top team - Komarno (16-5) managed to deliver another win. This time they beat sixth ranked Inter Bratislava (10-12) 85-76. After very bad start, Inter Bratislava stormed back in the second period cutting the deficit to 2 points 38-36. But it was not enough and Komarno took back the control in second half. Inter Bratislava was plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. The game in Prievidza was also quite interesting. Third ranked Nitra (14-8) played at the court of 5th ranked Prievidza (10-11). Nitra defeated Prievidza 98-85 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by Nitra. Prievidza managed to win fourth quarter 23-22. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They made 19-of-21 free shots (90.5 percent) during the game. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Nitra made 7 blocks. The winners were led by the former international center Branislav Tomek (205-83) who scored that evening 16 points and 9 rebounds (perfect from the field making all six shots) and Slovenian guard Maj Kovacevic (190-90) supported him with 23 points. Even 31 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists by American forward Joseph Harris (196-87, college: Co.Carolina) did not help to save the game for Prievidza. His fellow American import center Justin Manns (210-89, college: Kent St.) added 15 points and 6 rebounds (on 7-of-8 shooting from the field). Five Nitra and four Prievidza players scored in double figures. Nitra maintains third position with 14-8 record having just one points less than leader Komarno. The game between second ranked Levice (15-6) and 8th ranked Handlova (6-14) in Levice ended with biggest points difference. Levice outscored guests from Handlova 95-64. The game was mostly controlled by Levice. Handlova was better in third quarter 21-18. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Levice dominated down low during the game scoring 60 of its points in the paint compared to Handlova's 38 and made 23-of-29 charity shots (79.3 percent) during the game. They outrebounded Handlova 48-35 including 35 on the defensive glass. Levice brought some defensive toughness making 9 blocks. 24 personal fouls committed by Handlova helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. The best player for the winners was American forward Brian Addison (205-87, college: Buffalo) who had a double-double by scoring 20 points and 10 rebounds (on 8-of-9 shooting from the field). The other American import guard Brandon Fields (193-88, college: Nevada) chipped in 14 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists. Addison is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Four Levice players scored in double figures. After 5 rounds played we can already see who rules in the SBL and who belongs to weaker ones. Coincidentally all hosts won their games. The game between Top Four teams took place in Levice. Third ranked host Levice (4-1) defeated second-ranked Kosice (3-2) 66-51. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Kosice. It was a key game for the top position in the league.
