Making A Change In The World Through Baketball- Jun.14, 2010 (by TJ)

Even though I love this game of basketball and I enjoy traveling all over the world, but I feel this is much bigger than basketball. I am using the talent that God gave me to play this game to be a role model for kids growing and show them that you can accomplish anything you put your mind to. Im a firm believer that hard work pays off and that even when things dont look bright you should always keep the faith. I just want to say to the athletes throughout the world that w should all try to make a change in the world and not just focus on basketball, money, and partying. We should really try to set examples for the kids coming up and following us because there arent too many good role models in the world that I can think of. I mean there is probably a hand full of them and for the most part that do it whole-heartedly. When I watch some NBA players doing charity events, I always wonder if they really want to do it or if theyre just doing it because thats what the NBA requires. I feel that if you do something with the kids, disabled, or less unfortunate it should be done whole-heartedly. On the other hand, I feel we should do things such as helping children grow and learn how to become a better person and teach them about morals because a lot of kids are growing up and not learning any of this. We should teach them first and foremost that they should have God as number one in their life and without him we cant do anything because he gives us all the strength we have and need. Secondly, we should teach them the way to treat one another and not take life for granted because there are so many killings going on in the world its scary. One thing I will teach my children when I eventually have some is to always treat people with respect even if someone is treating you wrong, because your character is what defines you. I also feel that we should teach the kids how to live a great life of integrity and the way to do that is by having the discipline, honesty, and faith. The discipline to do it every day no matter how much you dont want to, the honesty to never lie and always be truthful in any and every situation no matter how much it hurts, and the faith to believe in God because he will never let you down. I listened to a sermon the other day by my pastor Bishop Vaughn Mcglaughlin and he said that successful people should be like a mirror for other people that see us, meaning that when they see you they see that they can achieve their same potential by hard work and say well is he/she can do it, so can I. That was an awesome way to put it because thats the way I feel little kids should look up to us athletes, and say wow if hes doing something he loves to do and making money doing it then so can I. Dreams do come true and I will continue to try to make a difference in the world by spreading the word of God through basketball, living a great life of integrity, and never giving up no matter the circumstance. Have a great day and I hope after reading this blog you will consider your ways and ask yourself do you want to make a change in the world, and help change our youth? God bless you all!!!
This has been another great experience which God has placed in front of me and I must say China is definitely on the top of the list. The people here are so sincere and they are a lot of fun to be around, it actually reminds of the people in slovakia a little bit. This has been another great experience which God has placed in front of me and I must say China is definitely on the top of the list. The people here are so sincere and they are a lot of fun to be around, it actually reminds of the people in slovakia a little bit. The only difference is the language barrier and its sometimes are to communicate with them, however you experience that in a lot of foreign countries so you just have to deal with it. I never ever question God but I sometimes want to know why he made different languages rather than just allowing everyone to speak the same language. I wish there was a lot of different races but everyone spoke the same language now that would be awesome. On the other hand, I just really wish I spoke 10 different languages so I would really be able to enjoy and open up to everyone I come in contact with. However, thats besisdes the point, my main focus on this post is to tell everyone how blessed I am and how much I thank God for allowing me to experience a great time in China. To everyone who reads this post, I would encourage you to visit China and just expand your horizon becaue Im definitely gonna bring my mom and dad over here one day. I talked to this one guy from China about the misconceptions that we both have about each ones culture and country, and it was funny to hear both sides. He actually said how they see americans as people with guns who shoot people all the time, and people who are rude, and the reason he felt that way was because of the movies that they watch. So I explained to him my misconceptions about China and we both laughed about it because we were both way off. One thing I will say is that the food is definitely different than I expected, and Im still trying to get used to it, however, we have a McDonalds and a KFC so thats a good thing. On the contrary, thats why my parents always told me to never judge a book by its cover, and also to never take someone opinion about something because what may be one way to someone, it can be totally different for me. Thats enough about the culture aspect, so now I will talk about the basketball part and the game is fun over here. I mean dont get me wrong there is a lot of competition but the people and the fans are what makes it fun. The fans are really into the game, and out of all the years Ive played basketball, Ive never had fourty to fifty fans all over me asking for my autograph and taking pictures with me. That was just a crazy experience that will stay with me for a lifetime, and also the coaches are really cool and are people persons which is very hard to come by now a days. To close out this post, I just want to thank God my family, and the people who have helped me out along the way.

Friends I've enjoyed throughout my basketball career- Apr.14, 2010 (by TJ)
Well our season is over and I must say that I really enjoyed my time over here. God put me around a group of people who have changed my life significantly. Well our season is over and I must say that I really enjoyed my time over here. God put me around a group of people who have changed my life significantly. Sometimes life isn't always about the money, cars, and clothes but its about the simple things and the the important people you have in your life. This season was memorable because not only did I love every single one of my teammates, but the fans, people in the city, the coach, the owner and boss were terrific people. This really felt like a home away from home, we not only ate lunch and dinner together everyday but we just really mingled and shared things with one another about life and went on trips together. I love and thank God for this opportunity of playing here in Komarno and I wouldn't have changed this year for anything in the world. Real and authentic people are hard to come by now a days and I really feel as though I will maintain friendships with my teammates and the people here for the rest of my life. That's saying a lot because I know that people come and go in your life but there are just some people that you will never forget and the people here are like this. I have some friends like that who are actually playing ball overseas now in Jason Cain (208-F-85, college: Virginia) Alex McClean, Marlon Smith (183-G-85, agency: EM-PA, college: Hunter), Sean Singletary (183-G-85, college: Virginia), Elton Brown (206-F/C-83, agency: Elfus-Siegel Management (ESM), college: Virginia), Jamon Lucas Gordon (193-G/F-87, college: Virginia Tech), Mamadi Diane (196-G/F-86, college: Virginia), Brion Rush (186-G-84, agency: Court Side, college: Grambling St.), Garnett Thompson (207-F/C-80, agency: Strategic Sports, college: Providence), Herman Favors (174-G-84, college: Georgia St.), Jeremy Hunt (196-G-83, agency: Buck Andre, college: Memphis), Igor Salamun (186-G-85), Jaraun Burrows (203-F-85, agency: Warren Sports International, college: IPFW), and David Jackson (193-G-86, college: W.Illinois)...the list goes on but I just wanted to mention those people in my note because they're good friends of mine. Not to mention my entire team I'm on this season are great people, but I'm just so thankful and can't stop saying it enough. So the purpose of me writing this note is to tell you how much fun I've had playing overseas this season and how we should value friendships and relationships that we have with people. Never take a true friend for granted or an opportunity that you come across because a lot of people never get the chance to experience it. Also make sure you always give thanks to God, your parents, and the people who have helped you along the way because without them none of this would be possible, and even though some say they did it on there own. We all know the truth that this is definitely not the case and I'm a child of God and a very thankful one, so that's why I'm expressing myself like this. Have a great rest of the week and call someone you care about to let them know how much you love and care about them.
