The European side dominated from start to finish to book their spot at the quarterfinals. Jaka Lakovic (186-G-78) knocked down 19 points to pace the effort. Australia got to an awful start to the game. Slovenia kept their opponents scoreless for more than six minutes building a 12:0 lead. Joe Ingles (203-G/F-87, agency: Priority Sports) finally broke the draught for the Boomers but Slovenia stayed in control. Sani Becirovic capped the half with two free throws to give the European team a 16:8 lead. Sani Becirovic and Jaka Lakovic opened the second frame with back-to-back three-pointers to boost the lead. As Australia struggled to hit shots from the field Slovenia kept gradually enlarging the lead. Goran Dragic (194-G-86, agency: Interperformances) and Jaka Lakovic gave Slovenia a 42:21 advantage at halftime. David Andersen tipped off the third quarter with three points in a row and it seemed the Boomers gained the momentum. But Primoz Brezec (216-F/C-79) and Nachbar teamed up for several cooling shots as Slovenia quickly built a 26-point advantage. Vidmar, Jaka Lakovic and Miha Zupan made it a 28-point game for Slovenia late in the period. Australia entered the fourth quarter down by 26 points 45:71. Jaka Lakovic and Goran Jagodnik connected from beyond the arc in the first part of the fourth quarter as Slovenia easily kept their opponents at bay. No miracle arrived for Australia at the dying stages as Slovenia coasted to the win at the end. Primoz Brezec scored 12 points for Slovenia. Goran Dragic accounted for 10 points, 8 assists and 4 rebounds in the win. Patrick Mills (183-G-88, college: St.Mary's, CA) and Joe Ingles netted 13 points each for Australia. Matt Nielsen (208-F/C-78, agency: Beo Basket) finished with 12 points and 8 rebounds in the loss.

Geoplin Slovan came up with new signings. The Slovenian outfit inked young prospect Bojan Radulovic (210-C-92) and also added Mirko Mulalic (195-F-88) and Jaka Zagorc (190-G-90) for the next season.
The 18-year old Bojan Radulovic heads to Slovan from Union Olimpija Ljubljana. He played for their second team, which competed in Slovenian D2. At the latest Nike Euroleague Junior Tournament Radulovic shined with 14 ppg, 6.3 rpg and 1 bpg for 3 games [read more]

Mirko Mulalic is coming to Slovan from TCG Mercator Skofja Loka. For 17 games last season he had 11.8 ppg and 2.9 rpg. He played for Merkator on season 2008/09 as well. Before that, Mulalic spent three seasons with Union Olimpija (mostly second team). He also spent some time with Tirglav Kranj. Mulalic played for U18 and U20 Croatia in the past. Jaka Zagorc heads to Slovan from Litija. He averaged 14.1 points, 4.4 rebounds and 2.6 assists in D2 last season. He was a member of Zagorje and Union Olimpija in the past. Zagorc played for U20 Slovenia this summer. In 2008, he was a member of the U18 Slovenian NT.

Goran Dragic (194-G-86, agency: Interperformances) knocked down 18 points as Slovenia clinched the second position in preliminary Group B. They will now face Australia at the eighth-final stage. Iran wrapped up their campaign at 1-4 record in the fifth position in the ladder. Slovenia opened the game with seven quick points. They stayed in control and won the opening period 19:6. Iran looked much more aggressive in the second quarter. They went on a 13:2 run to draw things level at 23. Goran Dragic replied with five consecutive points as Slovenia accumulated a 28:23 lead at halftime. Miha Zupan (205-F/C-82) and Bostjan Nachbar (207-G/F-80, agency: Interperformances) stretched the gap to 10 points early in the third term. Slovenia dictated the tempo in the third stanza as they boosted the gap to as many as 17 points. Slovenia posted a 52:34 lead at the third intermission. But Iran were not about to surrender that easily. A pair of three-pointers from Hamed Haddadi (218-C-85, agency: Agency No 10) and Davarpanah gave a needed boost for the Asian team. Arsalan Kazemi (201-F-90) fired from beyond the arc and Iran went on a 14:2 run to get within five. And it was only the buzzer that stopped Iran from catching up with Slovenia. Miha Zupan netted 15 points for the winners. Sani Becirovic (195-G-81, agency: Beo Basket) and Bostjan Nachbar produced 10 points each in the victory. Hamed Haddadi replied with 15 points and 7 rebounds for Iran. Arsalan Kazemi finished with 13 points and 14 boards in the loss.
