Here is the weekly review of the top performing Slovenian players, who play currently abroad.


Goran Dragic

   #1. This week's number one is an international point guard Goran Dragic (194-86), who plays in the NBA. He could not help the Houston Rockets (32-31) in their last game. Despite Dragic's very good performance the Houston Rockets lost in an overtime 99-105 on the road to the New Orleans Hornets. He was the top scorer with 23 points. Dragic also added 5 rebounds and dished 8 assists in 38 minutes on the court. It was Rockets' sixth consecutive loss in a row. There are only three games left until the end of the NBA Regular Season. So now every game will be critical. Dragic has individually a very good year with high stats. He averages: 11.6ppg, 2.5rpg, 5.2apg, 1.3spg, 2FGP: 52.4%, 3FGP: 34.8% and FT: 79.8% in the 63 games he played so far. Dragic is currently a member of the Slovenian senior national team.

Jaka Lakovic

   #2. Second place goes to an experienced international guard Jaka Lakovic (186-78), who plays in the Turkish TBL. He was not able to help Galatasaray (24-5) in their last game on Saturday. Despite Lakovic's very good performance the league leader Galatasaray was defeated in a double overtime (!!!) 106-99 in Akdeniz by the much lower-ranked Mersin (#9). He was the top scorer with 21 points. Lakovic also added 5 rebounds and 7 assists (made all of his eight free throws). His team will play only one more game in the Regular Season. And now that game is very crucial. It's Lakovic's first season with the team. Lakovic has relatively good stats this year: 11.3ppg, 1.8rpg, 3.2apg, 2FGP: 43.9%, 3FGP: 47.0%(63-134) and FT: 90.7%(78-86). He is in the roster of the Slovenian senior national team.

Emir Preldzic

   #3. The Slovenian player who performed third best last week abroad was former international forward Emir Preldzic (205-87, agency: Beo Basket). Preldzic contributed to a Fenerbahce Ulker's victory against the 12th-ranked Hacettepe University (11-18) 81-68 in the Turkish TBL on Saturday night. He recorded 10 points, 6 rebounds and 3 assists in 25 minutes. Fenerbahce Ulker Istanbul (20-8) is placed fifth in the TBL. There are only two games left until the end of the Regular Season. So now every game will be important. Preldzic is one of the most experienced players in a team as it's his fifth year in Fenerbahce Ulker's roster. This season Preldzic has relatively solid stats: 10.3ppg, 4.6rpg, 3.9apg, 2FGP: 51.2%, 3FGP: 36.8% and FT: 73.8% in the 25 games. He has a dual citizenship: Slovenian and Turkish. Despite Preldzic played previously for the Turkish national team, he played also for the Slovenian national team in 2008.

Mirza Begic

   #4. Center Mirza Begic (217-85) helped Real Madrid win their game against the eighth-ranked Meridiano Alicante (15-13) 91-87 in the Spanish ACB in Sunday night's game. Begic scored 8 points and blocked 2 blocks. Real Madrid (22-7) is placed second in the ACB. Begic is currently fourth on the list of best blockers. His overall stats this season are: 5.9ppg, 4.3rpg and 1.6bpg. Begic is another player who holds two passports: Bosnia and Herzegovina and Slovenian. Despite he played previously for the Bosnia and Herzegovina national team, Begic is currently in the Slovenian national team roster.

Jurica Golemac

   #5. Former international forward Jurica Golemac (209-77, also represented by Beo Basket), who plays in the Italian SerieA was not able to secure a victory for Air Avellino (13-15) in their last game. Despite his very good performance Air Avellino lost 67-76 in Caserta to the lower-ranked (#13) Otto. Golemac was the top scorer with 16 points. He also added 8 rebounds and dished 3 assists in 31 minutes. It was Air Avellino's third consecutive loss in a row. There are only four games left until the end of the Regular Season. So now every game will be extremely important. Golemac has reliable stats this year: 11.9ppg, 4.8rpg, 2.4apg and 1.6spg in the 28 games. He has both Slovenian and Croatian nationalities. Despite Golemac played previously for the Croatian national team, he is currently in the Slovenian national team roster.

   #6. Guard Sasha Vujacic (200-84) couldn't help Anadolu Efes (22-6) in their game against Turk Telekom (12-17) in the Turkish TBL. Vujacic recorded 9 points, 4 rebounds and 3 assists. But Anadolu Efes was defeated in an overtime 95-87 in Ankara by the much lower-ranked Turk Telekom (#10). There are only two games left until the end of the Regular Season. Vujacic averaged so far 12.7ppg, 2.9rpg, 2.3apg and 1.2spg. Despite he played previously for the Croatian national team, Vujacic is also a former international player as he played for the Slovenian senior team three years ago.

   #7. Former international power forward Primoz Brezec (216-79) was the major contributor in a 2-point BC Nizhny Novgorod's victory against the league outsider Enisey Krasnoyarsk (2-15) 99-97 in the Russian PBL in Saturday night's game. He had a double-double by scoring 20 points and getting 11 rebounds in 39 minutes. BC Nizhny Novgorod (3-15) is placed second from the bottom (#9) in the PBL. The Regular Season already ended. Brezec's stats this year are: 13.6ppg and 7.0rpg in the seven games. Despite he played previously for the Croatian national team, Brezec is currently in the Slovenian national team roster.

   #8. Power forward Erazem Lorbek (209-84, college: Michigan St.) managed to help Regal FC Barcelona to win against the seventh-ranked Lagun Aro GBC (16-13) 77-61 in the Spanish ACB last Sunday. He scored only 4 points and grabbed 4 rebounds. Regal FC Barcelona (24-5) is placed first in the ACB. It was his team's fifth consecutive victory in a row. Lorbek averaged so far 11.6ppg, 4.2rpg and 1.7apg. He plays currently for the Slovenian national team.

   #9. Former international forward Dragisa Drobnjak (200-77, another player represented by Beo Basket) led Base Oostende to an easy victory against the closely-ranked Belfius Mons-Hainaut (13-14) crushing them 78-54 in the Belgian D1 on Saturday night. Drobnjak recorded 13 points, 3 assists and 5 steals in 31 minutes. Telenet Oostende (18-9) is placed third in the D1. This year Drobnjak's overall stats are: 7.4ppg, 3.1rpg and 1.1apg in the 22 games. Despite he played previously for the Croatian national team, Drobnjak is currently in the Slovenian national team roster.

Point guard Vlado Ilievski (189-80, another player represented by Beo Basket) helped his Russian team Lokomotiv win their game against the second-ranked Spartak St.Petersburg (11-5) 69-60 in the VTB United League in Friday night's game. He scored 9 points. Lokomotiv Kuban (9-7) is placed fourth in group B. Ilievski's total stats this season are: 6.7ppg, 1.1rpg, 2.3apg and 1.2spg. Despite he played previously for the FYR Macedonian national team, Ilievski is also a former international player as four years ago he still played for the Slovenian senior national team.

   #11. Former international forward Marko Milic (201-77) led Vanoli-Braga to a victory against the sixth-ranked Umana Venezia 89-80 in the Italian SerieA last Sunday. He scored 17 points, grabbed 4 rebounds and dished 4 assists in 34 minutes. Milic averaged so far 13.2ppg, 6.4rpg, 1.1apg and 1.3spg in the 28 games. Despite he played previously for the FYR Macedonian national team, Milic is currently in the Slovenian national team roster.

   #12. Former international point guard Beno Udrih (194-82) couldn't help the Milwaukee Bucks in their game against the Indiana Pacers in the NBA. He scored 5 points. His team were defeated 118-109 in the NBA. Udrih's total stats this season are: 6.0ppg, 1.6rpg and 3.8apg. He used to play for the Slovenian national team back in 2010.

   #13. Former international forward Bostjan Nachbar (207-80) helped Unics Kazan win their game against the closely-ranked Krasnie Krilya 84-68 in the Russian PBL in Tuesday night's game. Nachbar scored 8 points (was perfect 6-for-6 from the free throw line) in only 11 minutes. This year Nachbar's total stats are: 3.6ppg and 2.1rpg in the eight games. Despite he played previously for the FYR Macedonian national team, Nachbar is currently in the Slovenian national team roster.

   #14. International guard Saso Ozbolt (188-81, agency: World Sport Agency) helped KK Zagreb CO win their game against the eighth-ranked Zabok crushing them 96-58 in the Croatian A1 last Tuesday. He scored 7 points and added 5 assists. Ozbolt has averaged so far 6.0ppg, 2.0rpg, 2.2apg and 1.2spg. Despite he played previously for the FYR Macedonian national team, Ozbolt is currently in the Slovenian national team roster.

   #15. Former U21 international point guard Matej Venta (187-84) helped BK Prostejov win their game against the leader NH Ostrava 90-71 in the Czech Republic NBL on Friday night. He scored 9 points, had 4 boards, passed 3 assists and added 4 steals in 22 minutes. Venta has averaged so far 7.3ppg, 3.4rpg and 2.1apg in the 34 games. Despite he played previously for the FYR Macedonian national team, Venta is currently in the Slovenian U21 national team roster.

Union Olimpija in talks with Ales Pipan - May 22, 2013

Ales Pipan is close to become the next head coach of Union Olimpija. The team is reportedly in final stage of the talks with the specialist to take over the bridge. Ales Pipan , if appointed, will replace Saso Filipovski . Ales Pipan is currently working with MZT Skopje. He led the team to the FYR Macedonian League Finals where they lead 2-0 against Kozuv.
