Slovenia recorded the third straight win at the start of 2013 EuroBasket Qualifying Round. They outscored Netherlands at home court to take 3-0 record on top of Group C. Nika Baric (169-PG-92) accounted for 18 points to pace the winners. Slovenia ensured a quick start. They held Netherlands to 7 points in the first quarter to pile up a 12-point lead. Slovenia increased the tempo in the second frame. They cleared off to accumulate a massive 28-point advantage. Netherlands however did not say die. The Dutch team went on a 25:15 run in the third frame to cut the deficit. They managed to narrow the distance even further in the fourth period but came up short of victory at the end. Maja Erkic (183-G/F-85) netted 12 points, while Sandra Pirsic (195-C-84) delivered 10 points for the winners. Naomi Halman (191-F/C-86, agency: Regeneracom Sports, college: Cal-Irvine) answered with 16 points for Netherlands. Natalie Van Den Adel (185-G-90, college: Colorado St.) had 11 points in the loss.

Domzale was led by Ksenija Mitric (162-PG-01) with her 20 points, Lorena Molnar (192-C-98) added 10 points and 15 rebounds. Grosuplje-Ilirija 52-64: The game produced just two lead changes. Ilirija opened the game with five straight and Grosuplje responeded with an 8-0 run. Ilirija also scored eight consecutive points to retake the lead 29-24 and never looked back from there. After trailing 34-45, Grosuplje cut the deficit to 52-56 midway through the fourt quarter. At that points, Ela Micunovic (182-SG-97) posted six straigh points to ignite Ilirija's 8-0 run for a 64-52 lead with 1:45 remaining. Anja Klavzar (179-F-90) scored 18 points for Ilirija, Ela Micunovic (182-SG-97) 14 and Tina Trebec had 14 points and 10 rebounds. We bring you last week's top performances from Slovenians who are playing abroad and who all have had prior experience of national team duties at youth or senior level. This week's number one is an international power forward Ana Ljubenovic (185-88). She could not help San Salvatore (4-4) in their last game. Despite Ljubenovic's very good performance the ninth-placed San Salvatore (4-4) lost in an overtime 72-76 at home to the second-ranked Empoli in the Group A.

#1. This week's number one is an international power forward Ana Ljubenovic (185-88, currently plays in Italy). She could not help San Salvatore (4-4) in their last game. Despite Ljubenovic's very good performance the ninth-placed San Salvatore (4-4) lost in an overtime 72-76 at home to the second-ranked Empoli in the Group A.
She had a double-double by scoring 15 points and getting 13 rebounds. Ljubenovic also added and 6 steals in 45 minutes on the court.
But this is still an early stage of the season and everything may happen.
This year Ljubenovic averages: 9.7ppg, 6.4rpg, 3.1spg, 2FGP: 46.7%, 3FGP: 23.1% and FT: 70.8% in seven games she played so far.
She is currently a member of the Slovenian senior national team.
#2. Second place goes to an international forward Tina Jakovina (183-92, currently plays in Italy). Jakovina was the major contributor in Vicenza's victory against the eighth-ranked Fanola SML (3-5) crushing them 67-47 in the Italian Serie A2 (second division) last Saturday.
She scored 16 points and grabbed 7 rebounds.
Velco Vicenza (6-1) is placed third in Group B.
It was her team's third consecutive victory in a row.
But the season just started, so everything may happen.
It's Jakovina's first year with the team.
Jakovina has relatively good stats this season: 11.2ppg, 6.3rpg, 1.5apg, 3FGP: 45.5% and FT: 92.3%.
She is in the roster of the Slovenian senior national team.
#3. The Slovenian player who performed third best last week abroad was an international guard Eva Rupnik (177-92, currently plays in Spain). Rupnik was not able to help ADBA (2-6) in their last game on Saturday. Despite her good performance ADBA (#12) was defeated 67-63 on the road by the higher-ranked Segle XXI (#6) in the Group A.
Rupnik scored 11 points, had 5 rebounds and dished 4 assists.
But there are still lots of games to play and it's a long way to go.
This season Rupnik has relatively solid stats: 10.9ppg, 2.8rpg, 2.6apg, 2.3spg, 2FGP: 40.4%, 3FGP: 18.2% and FT: 62.5%.
She is also a member of the Slovenian senior national team.
#4. Center Sandra Pirsic (196-84, currently plays in Spain) managed to help Gernika Bizkaia in a 1-point victoryagainst the closely-ranked Cadi La Seu (5-5) 54-53 in the Spanish LFB last Sunday.
Pirsic recorded only 2 points in 14 minutes.
Gernika Bizkaia (8-2) is placed third in the LFB.
It's Pirsic's first season with the team.
This year her overall stats are: 4.6ppg and 3.2rpg in 10 games.
Pirsic is also Slovenian national team player.
One more player who has never been selected to any of national teams, but has Slovenian passport:
#1.Marica Gajic (187-F/C-95, currently plays in Turkey). Gajic could not help the league outsider Girne Universitesi (0-5) to beat Botas (2-3).
She scored 9 points and grabbed 13 rebounds in 37 minutes.
But the bottom-ranked Girne Universitesi lost 61-74 on the road to the higher-ranked (#10) Botas.
So far Girne Universitesi lost all five games in the Regular Season.
But the season is still in it's first stage and everything can happen.
Gajic is ranked second on the list of the top scorers in the league and also on the list of best rebounders (first place).
She has individually a very good year with high stats. Gajic averages: 22.3ppg, 13.0rpg, 2.5apg and 1.3spg in four games she played so far.
She has a dual citizenship: Bosnia and Herzegovina and Slovenian.
Athlete Celje easily defeated Domzale 91-37 in the lone game of that weekend. Shante Evans (184-F/C-91, college: Hofstra, agency: Regeneracom Sports) scored 24 points, Larisa Ocvirk(184-SF-97) 15, Iva Slonjsak (183-SG-97) 14, Andrea Maric (195-C-97) 11 and Annamaria Prezelj (177-SG-97) 10.
