Germany U16 - Slovenia U16 69:50

Germany posted the second consecutive win at the start of U16 European Championship in Lithuania/Latvia. They knocked down Slovenian counterparts to improve at 2-0 record on top of Group C. Jan Wimberg (202-G-96) stepped up with 18 points and 11 rebounds to pace the winners. Slovenia fell at 0-2 record after the loss.
Germany strongly entered the encounter. They built a 24:14 lead ten minutes into the game. Germany boosted the gap in the second quarter. They piled up a 42:23 halftime lead. Slovenia tried to change the complexion of the game in the third quarter. They held German team to 11 points to narrow the margin to 14 points with one period remaining. But Germany responded adequately in the final frame to seal the comfortable win at the end. Sebastian Schmitt (180-PG-96), Constantin Ebert (180-PG-96) and Mahir Agva (202-C-96) finished with 8 points each for Germany. Grega Sajevic (183-SG-96) answered with 16 points for Slovenia. Sandi Grubelic (187-PG-96) netted 10 points in the loss.

We bring you last week's top performances from Slovenians who are playing abroad and who all have had prior experience of national team duties at youth or senior level. This week's number one is an international center Gasper Vidmar (211-87). He could not help Banvit (11-3) in their last game. Despite Vidmar's very good performance the second-placed Banvit (11-3) lost 87-92 on the road to the lower-ranked (#4) EnBW Ludwigsburg in the group A of Basketball Champions League.    [read more]

23-year old forward Tim Skerbec (200-F-93) had an amazing evening in the last round for Portoroz (they play in Places 7-12) and receives a Eurobasket.com Player of the Week award for round 1 (Second Stage). He had the game-high 32 points adding nine rebounds and three assists for Portoroz as his team was edged out by Sencur Gor. (#8, 7-4) 75-74. Portoroz maintains the 6th position in Slovenian league. Rogaska handed Zlatorog their fist home loss of the season, 75-59, in the opening Round of the Slovenian League Championship Stage. Championship Stage - Round1: Union Olimpija-Hopsi 78-60: Hopsi led only once in the game, and that came in the opening second on two Dejan Cup (202-PF-83) free-throws.
