Round 5 most important game was a victory of Jezica over 6th ranked AJM Maribor 58-43 on Sunday night. The game without a history. Jezica led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They held AJM Maribor to an opponent 23.9 percent shooting from the field compared to 35.8 percent accuracy of the winners. 24 personal fouls committed by AJM Maribor helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. International forward Eva Rupnik (177-92) orchestrated the victory by scoring 22 points and 7 rebounds. Guard Petra Lumpert (173-93) contributed with 14 points and 7 rebounds for the winners. Bosnian guard Dzenita Novi (180-93) answered with 10 points and 7 rebounds for AJM Maribor. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Jezica have a solid series of three victories in a row. They moved-up to fourth place. AJM Maribor at the other side keeps the sixth position with three games lost. Jezica are looking forward to face Ilrija (#5) in Ljubljana in the next round. AJM Maribor will play at home against the league's leader Athlete Celje and is hoping to prove to their supporters that the loss was just an accident.
SKL top team - Athlete Celje (5-0) had no problems winning another game. This time they crushed seventh ranked GVT Konjice (1-4) 90-57. Forward Larisa Ocvirk (184-97) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 15 points, 12 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners and Eva Lisec chipped in 19 points and 5 rebounds. Forward Katja Klancnik (175-90) responded with 17 points and 7 rebounds. Undefeated Athlete Celje have an impressive series of five victories in a row. Defending champion maintains first place with 5-0 record. GVT Konjice lost fourth consecutive game. They keep the seventh position with four games lost. Athlete Celje will play against AJM Maribor (#6) on the road in the next round which should be theoretically another easy game. GVT Konjice will have a break next round.
Leader Triglav blasted bottom-ranked Odeja KED (0-4) in Kranj 89-47 on Friday evening keeping the perfect record after 5 rounds. Odeja KED is still unable to win any game. Bojana Duric nailed a double-double by scoring 11 points, 11 assists and 4 steals for the winning side. Pia Prasnikar came up with a double-double by scoring 15 points and 13 rebounds for Odeja KED in the defeat. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. The victory was the fourth consecutive win for Triglav. They maintain second place with 4-0 record behind leader Athlete Celje. Odeja KED lost their fourth game in a row. They still closes the standings with four games lost. They share the position with Domzale. Triglav will meet Grosuplje (#3) on the road in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Odeja KED will play against Domzale (#8) and hopes to get finally their first victory.
Bottom-ranked Domzale is still unable to win any game. This time they could not use their home court advantage losing their fourth consecutive match to sixth ranked Ilrija (2-2) 88-68. The best player for the winners was Jovana Karakasevic who had a double-double by scoring 13 points and 19 rebounds. Domzale's coach rotated ten players seeing no chance for a win. Ilrija moved-up to fifth place. Domzale lost their fourth game in a row. They still closes the standings with four games lost. Ilrija's next round opponent will be higher ranked Jezica (#4) in Ljubljana and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Domzale will play on the road against Odeja KED (#9) in Skofja Loka and looks forward to get finally their first victory.

The most impressive performance of 5th round was 31 points, 7 rebounds and 8 assists by Helena Boada of Domzale.


AJM Maribor - Jezica 43-58

Triglav - Odeja KED 89-47

Leader Triglav blasted bottom-ranked Odeja KED (0-4) in Kranj 89-47 on Friday evening keeping the perfect record after 5 rounds. Odeja KED is still unable to win any game. The game was mostly controlled by Triglav. Odeja KED managed to win third quarter 14-10. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Triglav dominated down low during the game scoring 46 of its points in the paint compared to Odeja KED's 24 and made 16-of-21 free shots (76.2 percent) during the game. Triglav forced 26 Odeja KED turnovers and outrebounded them 40-28 including a 28-17 advantage in defensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists comparing to just 9 passes made by Odeja KED's players. The former international guard Bojana Duric (174-91) nailed a double-double by scoring 11 points, 11 assists and 4 steals for the winning side and international forward Tina Jakovina (182-92) accounted for 12 points and 9 rebounds. Pia Prasnikar (178-97) came up with a double-double by scoring 15 points and 13 rebounds and guard Kristina Erznoznik (165-87) added 13 points respectively for Odeja KED in the defeat. SKL top team - Athlete Celje (5-0) had no problems winning another game. This time they crushed seventh ranked GVT Konjice (1-4) 90-57. The game was mostly controlled by Athlete Celje. GVT Konjice was better in fourth quarter 17-13. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Athlete Celje dominated down low during the game scoring 66 of its points in the paint compared to GVT Konjice's 30. Athlete Celje forced 19 GVT Konjice turnovers and outrebounded them 58-21 including a 23-7 advantage in offensive rebounds. Oblak joins CCC Polkowice part II - May 24, 2013

National team member Teja Oblak (171-G-90) has signed with Polish champion CCC Polkowice for the second consecutive year. Last summer, after signing with Eurolige side, Oblak suffered a knee surgery while playing for Slovenian national team and her contract was terminated. Oblak agree to a one year deal. She averaged 12.6 points, 4.5 rebounds and 4.5 assists in 8 Slovenian league games for Athlete Celje this season.    [read more]

Novi Zagreb tab Tina Trebec - May 22, 2013

Novi Zagreb made another market move. They landed Tina Trebec (189-C-90, agency: Kotnik Sports Agency). The Slovenian centre played for Basket Slovanka this past season. She averaged 14.3 points and 4.4 boards per game in ZBL. Last (2011/12) season Tina Trebec had a stint with Merkur Celje. She averaged 17.8 points, 5.4 rebounds, 1.9 assists per appearance in Adriatic League. In Slovenian League the centre posted 19.6 points and 7.1 boards. Komplet stays at Novi Zagreb - May 15, 2013

Eva Komplet (182-F/C-86) will stay with Croatian champion Novi Zagreb for the coming season after the sides agreed to an extension today. Komplet joined Novi Zagreb last summer and averaged 6.4 points, 3.7 rebounds, 0.9 assists and 0.5 steals in 16 Croatian League. She missed first part of the season due to knee surgery.
