Talented Gregor Hrovat (196-G-94) had a very impressive game in the last round for Helios and that's him to receive a Eurobasket.com Player of the Week award for round 5. The 18-year old guard had the game-high 15 points adding five rebounds and four assists for Helios in his team's victory, helping them to edge out Elektra (3-2) 76-73. Helios is placed at 3rd position in Slovenian Telemach League. They would have been even better if they hadn't lost two games earlier this season. Helios will need more victories to improve their 3-2 record. It was one of impressive evenings for Hrovat as usually he does not deliver so high stats. Gregor Hrovat averages this season 11.4ppg.
The second most remarkable performance in last round's games was 24-year old guard Boban Tomic (190-G-88, agency: Alti Sport) of LTHcast Mercator. Tomic impressed basketball fans with 20 points, 3 rebounds and 6 assists. Of course he lead LTHcast Mercator to another comfortable win outscoring Polzela (#13, 0-5) 97-74. This victory allowed LTHcast Mercator to move up to 7th position in the standings. His team is not often considered as one of the league's best with a mere 2-3 record. Tomic is a newcomer at LTHcast Mercator and it seems he did not have too much trouble to become one of team's leaders. He belongs to the best scorers in the league with 16.8ppg (#4). He also recorded 5.3 assists per game.
The third best performed player last round was another Helios' star - Serbian Gezim Morina (204-C/F-92). Morina scored 21 points and grabbed seven rebounds. He was another key player of Helios, helping his team with a 76-73 win against Elektra (3-2). Helios needs these victories very badly if they think about getting closer to top teams. Their record at this point is 3 victories and 2 lost games. Morina has a great season in Slovenia. After only 5 games, he made it on the list of the league's leaders in rebounds with 6.6rpg (8th best). Gezim Morina has also Slovenian passport and can play in the league with a status of domestic player.
Other top performing players last week: 4. Dejan Mlakar (192-G-88) of Geoplin Slovan - 9 points and 7 rebounds 5. Bojan Jovanovic (186-G-82) of Maribor Messer - 15 points, 2 rebounds and 10 assists 6. Marko Vranjkovic (204-F/C-90) of Polzela - 18 points and 2 rebounds 7. Robert Abramovic (185-G-88) of LTHcast Mercator - 23 points and 2 rebounds 8. Tomo Cajic (200-F/C-85) of LTHcast Mercator - 11 points and 5 rebounds 9. Nemanja Barac (90) of Rogaska - 14 points, 4 rebounds and 3 assists 10. Ivan Drzic (205-C-83) of Tajfun - 20 points, 4 rebounds and 2 assists
The Player of the week is choosen based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc. The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it's accuracy. The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3*(REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) - 2*BSAG - 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4*(2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM - 3*(2FGPA-2FGPM) - 3*(3FGPA-3FGPM) - (FTA-FTM)
