Here is the weekly review of the top performing Slovenian players, who play currently abroad.

   #1. This week's number one is former international shooting guard Sasha Vujacic (201-84, currently plays in Euroleague). He led his Turkish team Anadolu Efes to a victory over the closely-ranked Armani Milano (3-4) 77-71 in the Euroleague in Friday night's game. Vujacic was MVP of the game. He scored 29 points (!!!) and added 3 passes in 34 minutes on the court. Anadolu Efes Istanbul (4-3) is placed third in group C. There are only three games left until the end of the Euroleague Regular Season. So now every game will be critical. Vujacic has relatively good stats this year: 12.9ppg, 2.7rpg, 1.3apg, 2FGP: 33.3%, 3FGP: 56.0%(14-25) and FT: 72.2% in the seven games he played so far. He played for the Slovenian senior national team three years ago.

   #2. Second place goes to an international power forward Erazem Lorbek (209-84, college: Michigan St., currently plays in Spain). Lorbek was the major contributor in a 3-point Regal FC Barcelona's victory against the 16th-ranked Baloncesto Fuenlabrada (1-8) 79-76 in the Spanish ACB last Sunday. He scored 16 points and grabbed 4 rebounds. Regal FC Barcelona (5-3) is placed seventh in the ACB. But this is still an early stage of the season and everything may happen. It's Lorbek's fourth year with the team. This season Lorbek has relatively solid stats: 11.9ppg, 2.6rpg, 1.1apg, 2FGP: 60.4%(32-53), 3FGP: 27.3% and FT: 76.5%. He played for the Slovenian national team in 2011.

   #3. The Slovenian player who performed third best last week abroad was an international point guard Goran Dragic (190-86, currently plays in NBA), who plays in the NBA. Dragic could not help the Phoenix Suns (6-7) in their last game. Despite his very good performance the Phoenix Suns lost 102-114 on the road to the Los Angeles Lakers. Dragic was the top scorer with 22 points. He also added 7 passes in 36 minutes. But the season just started, so everything may happen. It's Dragic's first year with the team. Dragic has individually a very good season with high stats. He averages: 16.5ppg, 2.8rpg, 7.4apg, 2.2spg, 2FGP: 54.2%, 3FGP: 36.2% and FT: 73.4% in the 13 games. Dragic played for the Slovenian national team one years ago.

   #4. Center Mirza Begic (217-85, currently plays in Spain) contributed to a Real Madrid's victory against the league outsider Assignia Manresa (0-8) 97-84 in the Spanish ACB in Sunday night's game. He scored 8 points and blocked 2 shots. Real Madrid (8-0) is placed first in the ACB. So far his team won all eight games in the Regular Season. But the season is still in it's first stage and everything can happen. Begic's overall stats this season are: 5.4ppg, 3.3rpg and 1.1bpg. He has a dual citizenship: Bosnia and Herzegovina and Slovenian. Begic used to play for the Slovenian national team last year.

   #5. Former international point guard Beno Udrih (194-82, currently plays in NBA) was not able to help the Milwaukee Bucks (6-4) in their game against the Charlotte Bobcats (6-5) in the NBA. He scored 5 points and added 7 assists in 16 minutes. The Milwaukee Bucks lost 98-102 in Charlotte to the Bobcats. But there are still lots of games to play and it's a long way to go. Udrih has reliable stats this year: 7.2ppg, 2.9rpg, 3.8apg and 1.1spg in the nine games. He used to play for the Slovenian national team two years ago.

Small forward Emir Preldzic (205-87, agency: Beo Basket, currently plays in Euroleague) helped his Turkish team Fenerbahce Ulker win their game against the fifth-ranked Un.Olimpija (2-5) 85-68 in the Euroleague on Thursday night. Preldzic recorded 11 points. Fenerbahce Ulker Istanbul (4-3) is placed second in group A. There are only three games left until the end of the Euroleague Regular Season. So now every game is very crucial. Preldzic is one of the most experienced players in a team as it's his sixth year in Fenerbahce Ulker's roster. His overall stats this season are: 9.4ppg, 2.1rpg and 2.9apg. Preldzic is a former international player as he played for the Slovenian senior team four years ago.

Former U18 international guard Bojan Krivec (188-87, currently plays in Croatia) was the main contributor in a 2-point Kvarner 2010's victory against the eighth-ranked KK Zabok (3-5) 76-74 in the Croatian A1 in Saturday night's game. He was the best player in that game. Krivec scored 21 points in 34 minutes. KK Kvarner 2010 Rijeka (7-1) is placed first in the A1. It was his team's sixth consecutive victory in a row. It's Krivec's first season with the team. Krivec is the league's best passer with 5.4apg. He also averaged so far 10.5ppg, 1.5rpg and 1.5spg in the eight games. Krivec used to play for the Slovenian U18 national team seven years ago.

Swingman Zoran Dragic (196-89, currently plays in Euroleague) helped his Spanish team Unicaja Malaga win their game against the sixth-ranked Asseco Prokom Gdynia (1-6) 63-48 in the Euroleague last Thursday. He recorded 6 points and grabbed 6 rebounds. Unicaja Malaga (6-1) is placed first in group B. It was his team's sixth consecutive victory in a row. There are only three games left until the end of the Euroleague Regular Season. So now every game will be important. Dragic's overall stats this season are: 5.1ppg and 2.9rpg. He used to play for the Slovenian national team last year.

Former international forward Dragisa Drobnjak (200-77, also represented by Beo Basket, currently plays in Belgium), who plays in the Belgian Ethias League was not able to secure a victory for one of league's weakest teams Base Oostende (4-3) in their last game. Despite Drobnjak's very good performance Base Oostende lost 89-95 in Aalst to the leading Okapi ar. He recorded 15 points and grabbed 4 rebounds in 29 minutes. They ended the series of three consecutive victories. Drobnjak's stats this year are: 14.7ppg, 4.7rpg and 1.7apg in the three games. He used to play for the Slovenian national team four years ago.

Power forward Primoz Brezec (216-79, currently plays in VTB United League) helped his Russian team BC Nizhny Novgorod win their game against the seventh-ranked Enisey Krasnoyarsk (2-3) 67-62 in the VTB United League last Friday. Brezec was the top player that evening. He scored 17 points and grabbed 9 rebounds in 29 minutes. BC Nizhny Novgorod (4-2) is placed fifth in group B. Brezec averaged so far 12.8ppg and 6.2rpg in the six games. He is a former international player as two years ago he still played for the Slovenian senior national team.

   #11. Former international power forward Gasper Vidmar (211-87, currently plays in Euroleague) helped his Turkish team Besiktas win their game against the closely-ranked Brose Baskets Bamberg 83-72 in the Euroleague on Friday night. Vidmar recorded 10 points and grabbed 5 rebounds. Vidmar's overall stats this season are: 5.9ppg and 5.4rpg. He used to play for the Slovenian national team two years ago.

   #12. International guard Jaka Lakovic (186-78, currently plays in Turkey) managed to help Galatasaray Medical Park Istanbul in a victory against the eighth-ranked TED Kolejliler crushing them 90-66 in the Turkish TBL in Saturday night's game. Lakovic scored 5 points in 16 minutes. This year Lakovic averages only 1.5ppg in the four games. He used to play for the Slovenian national team last year.

   #13. Former U16 international center Jusuf Nurkic (212-94, currently plays in Adriatic League) helped his Croatian team Cedevita win their game against the league outsider Szolnok 91-86 in the Adriatic League last Sunday. Nurkic scored 9 points. This season Nurkic averages only 6.5ppg. He used to play for the Slovenian U16 national team two years ago.

   #14. Former international point guard Aleksandar Capin (186-82, another player represented by Beo Basket, currently plays in Adriatic League), who plays in Serbia couldn't help Radnicki KG (5-5) in their last game. Despite Capin's very good performance Radnicki KG was edged 80-78 in Podgorica by the higher-ranked (#4) Buducnost. He was the top scorer with 17 points in 34 minutes. Capin is currently eighth on the list of top scorers and also on the list of best passers (fifth place). He has very reliable stats this year: 13.7ppg, 2.0rpg, 4.0apg and 1.4spg in the seven games. Capin used to play for the Slovenian national team back in 2008.

   #15. Former international forward Bostjan Nachbar (207-80, currently plays in Euroleague) faced previously mentioned Gasper Vidmar in the Euroleague last game. Nachbar couldn't help Brose Baskets Bamberg in their game against Besiktas. He recorded 7 points and added 3 assists in 27 minutes. His team lost 72-83. Nachbar is ranked third on the list of the top scorers in the league with 16.9ppg. This year he also averages: 4.9rpg and 2.0apg in the seven games. Nachbar used to play for the Slovenian national team two years ago.

   #1. Vlado Ilievski (190-PG-80, agency: Beo Basket, currently plays in Adriatic League) contributed to Cedevita's victory against the league outsider Szolnok (2-8) 91-86 in the Adriatic League in Sunday night's game. Ilievski scored 10 points. KK Cedevita Zagreb (6-3) is placed third in the Adriatic League. Ilievski's overall stats this season are: 3.9ppg and 1.4apg. He has a dual citizenship: FYR Macedonian and Slovenian.

   #2. Rasid Mahalbasic (211-C-90, currently plays in Euroleague), who plays in Poland could not help Asseco Prokom Gdynia (1-6) to beat Unicaja Malaga (6-1). He recorded 9 points and grabbed 8 rebounds. But the sixth-placed Asseco Prokom Gdynia was defeated 63-48 on the road by the leading Unicaja Malaga in the group B of Euroleague. It was Asseco Prokom Gdynia's fourth consecutive loss in a row. There are only three games left until the end of the Euroleague Regular Season. So now every game will be critical. Mahalbasic's overall stats this season are: 6.7ppg and 5.1rpg. He is another player who holds two passports: Austrian and Slovenian.

   #3. Vladimir Boisa (209-C/F-81, agency: World Sport Agency, currently plays in Georgia) contributed to an easy victory against one of league's weakest teams Sokhumi (0-5) crushing them 94-63 in a derby game in the Georgian Superleague on Saturday night. He scored 6 points, grabbed 5 rebounds and dished 4 assists in 19 minutes. BC Armia Tbilisi (4-1) is placed fourth in the Superleague. It was his team's fourth consecutive victory in a row. This year Boisa's overall stats are: 6.0ppg, 6.0rpg and 2.3apg in the four games he played so far. He has both Slovenian and Georgian nationalities.

   #4. Marko Milicevic (204-F-82, currently plays in Greece) led Ikaroi Serron to a 2-point victory over the 12th-ranked Doxa Lefkadas (1-7) 71-69 in the Greek A2 (second division) in Saturday night's game. Milicevic was the top player that evening. He scored 20 points and blocked 2 shots. AOK Ikaroi Serron (6-2) is placed third in the A2. It was his team's sixth consecutive victory in a row. Milicevic's overall stats this season are: 9.2ppg and 3.3rpg. He also holds two passports: Serbian and Slovenian.

   #5. Jure Balazic (204-F-80, currently plays in Turkey) managed to help Erdemirspor Eregli to win against the 14th-ranked Antalya (2-5) 75-74 in the Turkish TBL last Saturday. Balazic scored 5 points and grabbed 7 rebounds. Erdemirspor Eregli (3-4) is placed seventh in the TBL. Balazic's overall stats this season are: 8.0ppg and 5.3rpg.

   #6. Uros Benacek (206-C-92, currently plays in Czech Republic) was not able to help BC Kolin in their game against CEZ Nymburk in the Czech Republic NBL. He recorded 8 points. His team was crushed by 27 points 94-67. Benacek's overall stats this season are: 3.5ppg and 1.4rpg.

   #7. Rene Zvan (182-PG-87, currently plays in Slovakia) contributed to a 1-point Nitra's victory against the fifth-ranked Inter Bratislava 89-88 in the Slovakian Extraliga last Wednesday. He recorded 8 points and added 3 passes. Zvan's overall stats this season are: 3.4ppg, 1.7rpg and 1.9apg.

   #8. Damir Zeleznik (185-G-80, currently plays in Austria) contributed to a 2-point Xion Dukes' victory against the closely-ranked Raiffeisen Wels 80-78 in the Austrian A Bundesliga last Monday. He scored 5 points and grabbed 4 rebounds in 26 minutes. This year Zeleznik's overall stats are: 6.0ppg, 2.1rpg and 2.4apg in the seven games. He holds both Bosnia and Herzegovina and Slovenian passports.

   #9. Aleksandar Rac contributed to an easy victory against one of league's weakest teams KFUM Jamtland crushing them 82-62 in the Swedish Basketligan in Sunday night's game. Rac scored 8 points in only 10 minutes. This year Rac's overall stats are: 4.0ppg and 1.3rpg in the three games.

Sencur GGD have mutually terminated the contract of coach Ernest Novak effective immediately, the club announced today. Both sides parted ways following Sencur's loss to the last-but-one-placed LTH Castings 73-75 last Saturday. Sencur have a 6-13 record in Slovenian League championship Novak was Sencur's head coach since he replaced Igor Keselj in April 2016. Jan Rebec (190-G-93) had a great game in the last round for LTH Castings and that's him to receive a Eurobasket.com Player of the Week award for round 19. The 23-year old guard had the game-high 26 points adding five rebounds for LTH Castings in his team's victory, helping them to edge out Sencur Gor. (#9, 6-13) 75-73. The most important game in the last round took place in Konjice between third ranked Konjice (9-7) and fifth ranked Grosuplje (9-7) on Thursday night. Konjice was defeated by Grosuplje at home 77-59. The game was mostly controlled by Grosuplje. Konjice managed to win second period 20-16. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded Konjice 41-24 including 29 on the defensive glass. Grosuplje looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists.    [read more]
