Here is the weekly review of the top performing Slovenian players, who play currently abroad.

   #1. This week's number one is former international forward Bostjan Nachbar (207-80, currently plays in Euroleague). He led his German team Brose Baskets Bamberg to an overtime victory over the closely-ranked Partizan 92-90 in the Euroleague in Thursday night's game. Nachbar was MVP of the game. He recorded 23 points and grabbed 5 rebounds in 31 minutes on the court. Brose Baskets Bambergis placed fifth in group E. It's Nachbar's first season with the team. Nachbar belongs to league's top scorers and is ranked #3 with 16.8ppg. He also averaged so far 4.9rpg, 1.4apg, 2FGP: 47.3%, 3FGP: 37.5% and FT: 80.4% in the 10 games he played so far. Nachbar played for the Slovenian senior national team two years ago.

Mirza Begic

   #2. Second place goes to an international center Mirza Begic (217-85, currently plays in Euroleague). He led his Spanish team Real Madrid to an easy victory against the fifth-ranked Un.Olimpija crushing them 91-60 in the Euroleague last Thursday. Begic recorded 11 points and grabbed 4 rebounds. Real Madridis placed third in group E. This season Begic averages: 5.9ppg, 3.5rpg, 2FGP: 65.0%(26-40) and FT: 77.8%. He has a dual citizenship: Bosnia and Herzegovina and Slovenian. Former Triglav Kranj starter played for the Slovenian national team in 2011.

   #3. The Slovenian player who performed third best last week abroad was an international point guard Goran Dragic (190-86, currently plays in NBA). He was the major contributor in a Phoenix Suns' victory against the Utah Jazz (13-12) 99-84 in the NBA in Friday night's game. Dragic scored 17 points and added 5 assists. The Phoenix Suns have 9-15 record this season. But this is still an early stage of the season and everything may happen. Dragic has individually a very good year with high stats. He averages: 15.0ppg, 3.1rpg, 6.4apg, 1.9spg, 2FGP: 52.4%, 3FGP: 35.4% and FT: 74.5%. Dragic played for the Slovenian national team one years ago.

   #4. Power forward Erazem Lorbek (209-84, college: Michigan St., currently plays in Euroleague), who plays in Spain could not help Regal FC Barcelona in their last game. Despite his good performance the first-placed Regal FC Barcelona was edged 78-75 on the road by the much lower-ranked (#8) CSKA Moscow in the group F of Euroleague. Lorbek recorded 11 points in 28 minutes. Lorbek is one of the most experienced players in a team as it's his fourth year in Regal FC Barcelona's roster. This season his overall stats are: 9.1ppg, 2.6rpg and 1.2apg in the nine games. Lorbek used to play for the Slovenian national team last year.

   #5. International swingman Zoran Dragic (196-89, currently plays in Spain) was not able to help Unicaja Malaga (6-6) in their game against Blusens Monbus (6-6) in the Spanish ACB. Despite his very good performance on Sunday night He was the second best scorer with 14 points. Dragic's total stats this season are: 6.9ppg and 2.9rpg. He used to play for the Slovenian national team last year.

Small forward Emir Preldzic (205-87, agency: Beo Basket, currently plays in Turkey) led Fenerbahce Ulker to an easy victory against the league outsider Hacettepe (2-8) crushing them 92-59 in the Turkish TBL in Sunday night's game. Preldzic recorded 12 points and added 6 passes in 26 minutes. Fenerbahce Ulker Istanbul (9-1) is placed first in the TBL. It was his team's fifth consecutive victory in a row. But the season just started, so everything may happen. Preldzic has been at the team for six years. This season his total stats are: 8.6ppg, 4.6rpg and 3.9apg in the 10 games. Preldzic is a former international player as he played for the Slovenian senior team four years ago.

   #7. Former international shooting guard Sasha Vujacic (201-84, currently plays in Turkey) was not able to secure a victory for Anadolu Efes (7-2) in their game against TED Kolejliler (5-5) in the Turkish TBL. He scored 8 points and grabbed 5 rebounds. Anadolu Efes was edged 86-85 in Ankara by the lower-ranked TED Kolejliler (#7). They ended the series of five consecutive victories. But the season is still in it's first stage and everything can happen. Vujacic has averaged so far 9.5ppg, 4.0rpg, 1.1apg and 1.5spg. He used to play for the Slovenian national team three years ago.

   #8. Power forward Gasper Vidmar (211-87, currently plays in Euroleague) contributed to a 1-point Besiktas' victory against the closely-ranked Lietuvos rytas 66-65 in the Euroleague on Thursday night. Vidmar recorded 10 points and grabbed 6 rebounds in 24 minutes. Besiktas Istanbulis placed seventh in group F. Vidmar has averaged so far 7.3ppg, 5.4rpg and 1.2bpg in the 10 games. He used to play for the Slovenian national team back in 2010.

   #9. International power forward Uros Slokar (210-83, currently plays in Spain) contributed to a G.Canaria 2014's victory against the closely-ranked Regal FC Barcelona (7-5) 81-69 in the Spanish ACB last Sunday. He scored 9 points and grabbed 5 rebounds in 18 minutes. Herbalife Gran Canaria 2014 (9-3) is placed fourth in the ACB. Slokar has averaged so far 6.1ppg, 3.6rpg and 1.3apg in the seven games. He used to play for the Slovenian national team last year.

   #10. Point guard Aleksandar Capin (186-82, also represented by Beo Basket, currently plays in Adriatic League) couldn't help Radnicki KG (7-6) in their game against Zvezda (8-5) in the Adriatic League. Despite his very good performance on Saturday night Capin was the second best scorer with 16 points. He also added 4 steals. Capin is currently seventh on the list of top scorers and also on the list of best passers (fourth place). He has very reliable stats this season: 13.7ppg, 2.0rpg, 4.1apg and 1.6spg. Capin is a former international player as four years ago he still played for the Slovenian senior national team.

   #11. Former international power forward Primoz Brezec (216-79, currently plays in VTB United League) couldn't help BC Nizhny Novgorod in their game against VEF Riga in the VTB United League. Despite his good performance last Sunday Brezec was the second best scorer with 12 points. He also added 6 rebounds and made 2 blocks. Brezec has relatively good stats this season: 11.9ppg and 5.6rpg. He used to play for the Slovenian national team two years ago.

   #12. Former international center Hasan Rizvic (212-84, currently plays in VTB United League) couldn't help Enisey Krasnoyarsk in their game against CEZ Nymburk in the VTB United League, despite his good performance on Monday night. Rizvic had a double-double by scoring 12 points and getting 11 rebounds in 26 minutes. But his team lost 61-69. Rizvic has averaged so far 7.6ppg and 4.3rpg in the eight games. He used to play for the Slovenian national team back in 2010.

   #13. Former international power forward Goran Jurak (203-77, currently plays in Italy) couldn't help Angelico Biella in their game against Cantu in the Italian SerieA. Despite his good performance in Sunday night's game Jurak scored 10 points. Jurak has averaged so far 7.0ppg, 4.0rpg and 1.4spg. He used to play for the Slovenian national team six years ago.

   #14. Former U20 international guard Maj Kovacevic (190-90, currently plays in Slovakia) couldn't help Nitra in their game against Prievidza in the Slovakian Extraliga. Despite his very good performance on Saturday night Kovacevic was the top scorer with 16 points. This season Kovacevic has very high stats. He averages: 15.5ppg and 1.8rpg. Kovacevic used to play for the Slovenian U20 national team back in 2010.

   #15. Former U18 international forward Matic Sirnik (200-91, currently plays in Portugal) led Barcelos to an overtime victory against the ninth-ranked Lusitania 81-80 in the Portuguese LPB in Saturday night's game. He scored 19 points and grabbed 6 rebounds in 45 minutes. Sirnik is ranked ninth on the list of the top scorers in the league with 15.3ppg. He also averaged so far 6.8rpg, 2.2apg and 1.2spg in the nine games. Sirnik used to play for the Slovenian U18 national team three years ago.


The list of other players, who all have Slovenian passport but never been selected to any of Slovenian national teams:

   #1. Rasid Mahalbasic (211-C-90, currently plays in Euroleague) led his Polish team Asseco Prokom Gdynia to an overtime victory against the closely-ranked Montepaschi Siena 95-88 in the Euroleague on Thursday night. Mahalbasic had a double-double by scoring 18 points and getting 16 rebounds. He also added 3 assists in 30 minutes. Asseco Prokom Gdyniais placed sixth in the Euroleague. Mahalbasic is currently fifth on the list of best rebounders with 6.8rpg. This year his other stats are: 9.1ppg and 1.3apg in the 10 games he played so far. Mahalbasic has a dual citizenship: Austrian and Slovenian.

   #2. Jure Balazic (204-F-80, currently plays in Turkey) led Erdemir to a victory against the 12th-ranked Turk Telekom (3-7) 103-94 in the Turkish TBL in Saturday night's game. Balazic recorded 20 points and grabbed 9 rebounds. Erdemirspor Eregli (4-6) is placed eighth in the TBL. But there are still lots of games to play and it's a long way to go. Balazic has averaged so far 9.3ppg, 5.5rpg and 1.1spg.

   #3. Vlado Ilievski (190-PG-80, agency: Beo Basket, currently plays in Adriatic League), who plays in Croatia could not help Cedevita (7-5) to beat Cibona (5-8). He scored 6 points and added 8 passes in 29 minutes. Cedevita lost 64-73 in a derby game to the lower-ranked (#10) Cibona. Ilievski has averaged so far 5.0ppg and 1.9apg in the 12 games. He is another player who holds two passports: FYR Macedonian and Slovenian.

   #4. Marko Milicevic (204-F-82, currently plays in Greece) was the major contributor in an Ikaroi Serron's victory against the 11th-ranked Irakleio (3-7) 82-67 in the Greek A2 (second division) last Saturday. Milicevic recorded 18 points and grabbed 7 rebounds in 32 minutes. AOK Ikaroi Serron (7-3) is placed fourth in the A2. Milicevic has averaged so far 8.9ppg and 3.9rpg in the 10 games. He has both Serbian and Slovenian nationalities.

   #5. Uros Benacek (206-C-92, currently plays in Czech Republic) contributed to a BC Kolin's victory against the closely-ranked NH Ostrava (13-3) 87-81 in the Czech Republic NBL last Saturday. He recorded 8 points and grabbed 6 rebounds. BC Kolin (9-7) is placed fifth in the NBL. Benacek has averaged so far 3.8ppg and 2.3rpg.

   #6. Nejc Strnad (190-PG-83, currently plays in Greece) was not able to help one of league's weakest teams Ikaros in their game against AGOR in the Greek A1. He cannot count Sunday's game as one of the best ones. Strnad recorded only 2 points and had 3 steals. His team was defeated 66-61. This season Strnad averages just 2.7ppg.

   #7. Mladen Loncarevic (209-C/F-91, college: Weatherford JC, currently plays in Bosnia) was not able to secure a victory for KK Radnik Bijeljina in their game against Kakanj in the Bosnia and Herzegovina Division I. He cannot count Saturday's game as one of the best ones. Loncarevic scored only 3 points. His team was defeated 93-85. Loncarevic has averaged so far 6.4ppg and 2.7rpg. He also holds two passports: Slovenian and Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Limoges CSP Elite (ProA) added to their roster 24-year old Slovenian international guard Klemen Prepelic (191-92). He played last season at EWE Baskets in German BBL league. In 32 games he recorded 10.0ppg, 3.0rpg and 3.2apg. Prepelic also played 15 games in Eurocup where he averaged 8.4ppg, 2.2rpg and 2.7apg. Anadolu Efes Istanbul (BSL) signed 24-year old Slovenian international center Alen Omic (217-102kg-92). He will still stay in Spain as he played last season at Gran Canaria in Spanish Liga Endesa. The last season Omic played also at Gran Canaria (Liga Endesa) in Spanish league. In 35 games Omic had 12.0ppg, 6.8rpg and 1.1apg. He helped them to make it to the final and supercup semifinals. Coach Saso Filipovski signs at Banvit Basketbol Kulubu - 1 day ago

Banvit Basketbol Kulubu (BSL) landed 42-year old Slovenian coach Saso Filipovski. He has coached for the last two years at Stelmet Zielona Gora in Polish TBL league. He helped them to win the league title and the supercup. He has coached also professionally in Italy (Virtus Roma), Russia and Slovenia (Un.Olimpija).
