Jure Pelko gets MVP of the Week award for Slovenian Telemach League - Jan 13, 2013

Jure Pelko
Jure Pelko (190-G-90) had an amazing evening in the last round for league's leader Maribor Messer and that's him to receive a Eurobasket.com Player of the Week award for round 11.
The 22-year old guard had the game-high 33 points adding six rebounds and two assists for Maribor Messer in his team's victory, helping them to beat Polzela (#13, 0-11), the league's bottom-ranked team 95-86. It allowed Maribor Messer to consolidate first place in the Slovenian Telemach League. Maribor Messer have a solid 9-2 record. In the team's last game Pelko had a remarkable seven three-pointers out of 11 attempts. It's his second year at Maribor Messer and it's hard to imagine this team without him. Pelko has impressive league stats. He is in league's top in points (5th best: 16.2ppg).

The second most remarkable performance in last round's games was 23-year old guard Danijel Vujasinovic (180-G-89) of Polzela. Vujasinovic impressed basketball fans with a double-double of 17 points and 10 assists. Bad luck as Polzela lost that game 86-95 to the higher-ranked Maribor Messer (#1, 9-2). Polzela are still at the very bottom. 11 lost games are too many considering they did not win any game. Vujasinovic is a newcomer at Polzela and it seems he did not have too much trouble to become one of team's leaders.

The third best performed player last round was former international guard Samo Udrih (195-G-79) of second-ranked Zlatorog. Udrih scored 22 points and grabbed five rebounds. He was a key player of Zlatorog, leading his team to a 77-67 win against the lower-ranked Geoplin Slovan (#8, 4-7). Zlatorog is closer and closer to the top of the standings. They will still need more victories. But 9-2 record is not that bad... Udrih has a great season in Slovenia. After only 9 games, he made it on the list of the league's leaders in points with 17.4ppg (3rd best) and assists with 3.6apg (9th best). He also has 2.6spg, FGP: 55.0% and 3PT: 46.4%.

Other top performing players last week:
4. Emir Zimic (215-C-86) of Tajfun - 13 points and 7 rebounds
5. Nikola Gacesa (205-F-87) of Helios - 24 points and 4 rebounds
6. Isiah Martin (203-F/C-89) of Polzela - 20 points and 7 rebounds
7. Simo Atanackovic (206-F-90) of Elektra - 11 points, 10 rebounds and 2 assists
8. Ziga Zagorc (184-PG-84) of Elektra - 15 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists
9. Milivoje Mijovic (200-F-91) of Rogaska - 14 points, 14 rebounds and 2 assists
10. Tadej Kostomaj (186-G-87) of Rogaska - 11 points, 2 rebounds and 5 assists

The Player of the week is chosen based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc.
The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it's accuracy.
The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3* (REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) - 2*BSAG - 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4* (2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM - 3* (2FGPA-2FGPM) - 3* (3FGPA-3FGPM) - (FTA-FTM)

He had a double-double of 19 points and 13 rebounds, while his team edged out KK Primorska (#7, 8-6) 89-87. Rogaska is placed at 3rd position in Slovenian league.
