Olimpija through to Cup final, Helios shocks Krka - Feb 9, 2013

Union Olimpija and Helios have all made it through to the finals of the 2013 Slovenian Cup Spar.
Defending champion Union Olimpija defeated Tajfun Sentjur 82-76. Dino Muric (200-F-90) scored 19 points and grabbed 8 rebounds, Jaka Blazic (196-G-90) added 16 points, Jasmin Perkovic (205-F-80, agency: Court Side) 14, Klemen Prepelic (191-G-92) 13 and Sasu Salin (192-G-91) scored 12 points, all on 3-pointer. Olimpija trailed just one possession,0-2, and hit four 3-pointers to go ahead 16-3. They had their largest lead of the game at 31-16 in the second quarter. Sentjur cut the deficit to one point, 59-60, late in the third quarter. Klemen Prepelic and Jasmin Perkovic made 3-pointers and Dino Muric added a dunk for Olimpija to make it 68-59. Olimpija's advantage never dipped under six points the rest of the way. Sentjur was led by Mladen Primorac (210-C-90) who came off the bench for the game-high 21 points, Ivan Drzic (205-C-83) collected 13 points and 7 rebounds, Mike Venezia (185-PG-88, college: Colgate) scored 12 points, all on 3-pointer, and Anze Pelc (190-G-90) posted 12 points.

Cup runner-up Krka were surprisingly elimated, losing to Helios 66-71. Krka had the largest lead of the game att 58-49 late in the third quarter. Helios trailing 60-66 with 4:45 remaining, before went on a 11-0 run to finish the game. Gezim Morina (204-C/F-92) hit a go ahead 3-pointer with 23 seconds remaining to give Helios a 69-66 lead. Domen Lorbek (198-G/F-85) missed potential game-tying 3-pointer and Gezim Morina grabbed the defensive rebound and was fouled with 12 seconds to go. He made a pair of free throws to seal the win for Helios. Morina finished with 15 points, Aleksandar Ponjavic (198-G-91) came off the bench for 14 points and Matic Rebec (180-PG-95) added 11 points. Helios were outrebounded 23-40, picking up only 2 offensive boards to Krka'14. Domen Lorbek led Krka with 19 points, Jure Lalic (210-C-86) had 15 points and 12 points and Smiljan Pavic (210-F/C-80) added 10 points.

Olimpija beat Krka to stay alive - May 17, 2013

Union Olimpija beat Krka 73-68 in Game 3 to avoid a sweep in the finals. Jaka Blazic (196-G-90) scored 14 of his game-high 17 points in the first half, Drazen Bubnic (206-F-86) and Jasmin Perkovic (205-F-80) both poured in 11 points and Klemen Prepelic (191-G-92) came off the bench for 8 assists. Grosuplje hires coach Mihevc - May 13, 2013

Grosuplje reached an agreement with head coach Dejan Mihevc , who inked a one-year deal with the Telemach League side. Mihevc, 35, arrives from London Leopards, to which he helped to win the 2011-12 British EBL Divison one title Mihevc is the assistant coach of the U-20 Slovenian national team and he also coached the U-16 Slovenian national team from 2008-2010. Tomorrow final series start in Novo mesto - May 12, 2013

Slovenian Telemach League finals will start tomorrow with the first game in Novo mesto, home of defending champions Krka. The finals will be played between two traditional opponents Krka Novo mesto and Union Olimpija Ljubljana. Second game will be played on Wednesday in Ljubljana's Stozice Arena.
