Here is the weekly review of the top performing Slovenian players, who play currently abroad.


Goran Dragic

   #1. This week's number one is former international point guard Goran Dragic (190-86, currently plays in NBA), who plays in the NBA. He could not help the Phoenix Suns (18-38) in their last game. Despite Dragic's very good performance the Phoenix Suns lost 98-108 on the road to the Golden State Warriors. He had a double-double by scoring 20 points and making 10 passes. Dragic also added 4 rebounds and 5 steals in 36 minutes on the court. It's Dragic's first season with the team. He has individually a very good year with high stats. Dragic averages: 14.3ppg, 2.9rpg, 6.7apg, 1.5spg, 2FGP: 50.4%, 3FGP: 31.5% and FT: 74.8% in the 54 games he played so far. He played for the Slovenian senior national team two years ago.

Aleksandar Capin

   #2. Second place goes to former international point guard Aleksandar Capin (186-82, agency: Beo Basket, currently plays in Adriatic League). Capin led his Serbian team Radnicki KG to a double overtime (!!!) victory over the tenth-ranked Cibona (8-14) 105-101 in the Adriatic League last Monday. He was MVP of the game. Capin scored 32 points (!!!), had 5 boards, passed 7 assists and added 3 steals. Radnicki Kragujevac (13-8) is placed fourth in the Adriatic League. It was his team's fifth consecutive victory in a row. Capin is the league's top scorer and also on the list of best passers (first place). This season he has very high stats. Capin averages: 17.2ppg, 2.5rpg, 5.5apg, 1.5spg, 2FGP: 48.5%, 3FGP: 44.6% and FT: 75.9%. He has a dual citizenship: Slovenian and Serbian. Former Union Olimpija Ljubljana starter played for the Slovenian national team in 2008.

   #3. The Slovenian player who performed third best last week abroad was former international shooting guard Sasha Vujacic (201-84, currently plays in Turkey), who plays in the Turkish TBL. Vujacic was not able to help one of league's weakest teams Anadolu Efes (14-4) in their last game. Despite his good performance Anadolu Efes lost 70-77 in a derby game to the higher-ranked (#4) Galatasaray. Vujacic was the second best scorer with 13 points in 23 minutes. Vujacic is currently third on the list of most steals with 1.6spg. This year his other stats are: 13.2ppg, 3.2rpg, 1.5apg, 2FGP: 54.3%, 3FGP: 46.7%(28-60) and FT: 85.1% in the 17 games. Vujacic played for the Slovenian national team four years ago.

   #4. An experienced forward Marko Milic (201-77, currently plays in Iran) led Mahram to a victory over the closely-ranked Azad (7-10) 80-70 in a derby game in the Iranian Superleague in Monday night's game. He was the best player in that game. Milic recorded a double-double by scoring 22 points and getting 11 rebounds. Mahram Tehran (14-3) is placed third in the Superleague. Milic is currently fourth on the league's list of top scorers and also on the list of best rebounders (first place). This season he has very high stats. Milic averages: 15.6ppg, 9.3rpg, 1.3apg and 1.1spg. He used to play for the Slovenian national team back in 2006.

   #5. Former international power forward Bostjan Nachbar (207-80, currently plays in Euroleague) was not able to secure a victory for the league outsider Brose Baskets Bamberg (0-8) in their game against Unicaja Malaga (4-4) in the Euroleague, despite his very good performance last Thursday. Nachbar was the top scorer with 17 points in 22 minutes. But the eighth-placed Brose Baskets Bamberg was edged 68-65 in Malaga by the higher-ranked (#5) Unicaja in the group E of Euroleague. So far Brose Baskets Bamberg lost all eight games in the Top 16. Nachbar is currently third on the list of top scorers with 16.8ppg. This year he also averages: 3.7rpg and 1.3apg in the 18 games. Nachbar used to play for the Slovenian national team three years ago.

Power forward Erazem Lorbek (209-84, college: Michigan St., currently plays in Euroleague) contributed to an easy victory against the seventh-ranked Fenerbahce Ulker (2-6) crushing them 99-60 in the Euroleague on Thursday night. He scored 9 points. Regal FC Barcelona (7-1) is placed first in group F. It was his team's sixth consecutive victory in a row. Lorbek is one of the most experienced players in a team as it's his fourth year in Regal FC Barcelona's roster. Lorbek's overall stats this season are: 9.0ppg, 3.5rpg and 1.1apg. He is a former international player as he played for the Slovenian senior team two years ago.

   #7. Former international power forward Gasper Vidmar (211-87, currently plays in Euroleague) couldn't help the league outsider Besiktas (0-8) in their game against Fenerbahce Ulker (2-6) in the Euroleague, despite his good performance in Friday night's game. Vidmar recorded 10 points, 5 rebounds and 4 blocks in 29 minutes. But Besiktas (#8) lost 72-78 in a derby game to the higher-ranked (#7) Fenerbahce Ulker in the group F of Euroleague. So far Besiktas lost all eight games in the Top 16. Vidmar is currently fifth on the league's list of best blockers with 1.3bpg. He also averaged so far 8.4ppg and 5.1rpg in the 16 games. Vidmar used to play for the Slovenian national team three years ago.

   #8. Guard Bojan Krivec (188-87, currently plays in Croatia) couldn't help Kvarner 2010 (11-4) in their game against Alkar Sinj (10-5) in the Croatian A1, despite his good performance on Saturday night. Krivec scored 12 points, made 6 passes and 3 steals in 32 minutes. But Kvarner 2010 lost 62-67 in Sinj to the lower-ranked (#3) Alkar. There are only three games left until the end of the Regular Season. So now every game will be critical. Krivec is ranked first on the list of the best passers in the league and also on the list of most steals (third place). He has very reliable stats this year: 10.1ppg, 2.1rpg, 5.3apg and 1.6spg in the 15 games. Krivec used to play for the Slovenian U18 national team back in 2005.

Former international forward Zeljko Zagorac (204-81, currently plays in Hungary) was the main contributor in Falco-Szova's victory against the 11th-ranked Marso NYKK (7-13) 77-75 in the Hungarian A Division in Saturday night's game. He was the top player that evening. Zagorac recorded a double-double by scoring 21 points and getting 19 rebounds. Falco-Szova KC-Szombathely (10-10) is placed sixth in the A Division. There are only two games left until the end of the Regular Season. So now every game is very crucial. This season Zagorac has very high stats. He averages: 20.7ppg, 13.5rpg, 1.2apg and 1.3spg. Zagorac used to play for the Slovenian national team five years ago.

   #10. Center Mirza Begic (217-85, currently plays in Euroleague) managed to help Real Madrid in a victory against the seventh-ranked ALBA Berlin (1-7) 77-72 in the Euroleague last Friday. He scored only 4 points in 8 minutes on the court. Real Madrid (7-1) is placed second in group E. This year Begic's overall stats are: 4.7ppg and 3.2rpg in the 18 games. He is a former international player as two years ago he still played for the Slovenian senior national team.

   #11. Former international small forward Emir Preldzic (205-87, also represented by Beo Basket, currently plays in Euroleague) faced previously mentioned Erazem Lorbek in the Euroleague last game. Preldzic couldn't help Fenerbahce Ulker in their game against Regal FC Barcelona. He cannot count Thursday's game as one of the best ones. Preldzic scored only 2 points and added 7 passes. His team was crushed by 39 points 99-60. Preldzic's total stats this season are: 8.6ppg, 2.3rpg and 3.3apg. He used to play for the Slovenian national team five years ago.

   #12. Former international forward Dragisa Drobnjak (200-77, another player represented by Beo Basket, currently plays in Belgium) contributed to a Base Oostende's victory against one of league's weakest teams Leuven Bears 80-72 in the Belgian Ethias League in Friday night's game. Drobnjak scored 9 points and added 4 passes in 17 minutes. Drobnjak has relatively good stats this year: 10.1ppg, 4.2rpg and 1.6apg in the 13 games. He used to play for the Slovenian national team back in 2008.

   #13. Former international swingman Samo Grum (193-79, currently plays in Austria) helped Furstenfeld Panthers win their game against one of league's weakest teams St.Polten 95-88 in the Austrian A Bundesliga last Sunday. Grum was the top player that evening. He scored 40 points (!!!) and added 4 assists. Grum is currently second on the list of top scorers. This season he has very high stats. Grum averages: 20.4ppg, 2.0rpg and 2.7apg. He used to play for the Slovenian national team twelve years ago.

   #14. Former U20 international center Salih Nuhanovic (208-82, currently plays in Czech Republic) helped Levice win their game against the sixth-ranked Basketbal Svitavy 82-76 in the Czech Republic NBL in Saturday night's game. Nuhanovic was the top player that evening. He recorded 16 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists. Nuhanovic is currently fifth on the list of best rebounders and also on the list of best blockers (second place). This season he has very good stats: 12.6ppg, 7.6rpg and 1.5bpg. Nuhanovic used to play for the Slovenian U20 national team back in 2002.

   #15. Former international small forward Nebojsa Joksimovic (193-81, currently plays in Adriatic League) helped his Bosnia and Herzegovina team Igokea win their game against the 12th-ranked KK Zadar 90-75 in the Adriatic League last Monday. He scored 10 points, had 4 rebounds and dished 6 assists (went 5 for 5 at the free throw line) in 33 minutes. This year Joksimovic's total stats are: 7.0ppg, 3.6rpg, 2.8apg and 1.4spg in the 22 games. He used to play for the Slovenian national team four years ago.


The list of other players, who all have Slovenian passport but never been selected to any of Slovenian national teams:

   #1. Rasid Mahalbasic (211-C-90, currently plays in Poland) contributed to an easy victory against the ninth-ranked Siarka Jezioro (7-13) crushing them 89-54 in the Polish TBL last Sunday. He scored 10 points, grabbed 5 rebounds and made 3 blocks. Asseco Prokom Gdynia (14-6) is placed third in the TBL. It was his team's fourth consecutive victory in a row. There are only two games left until the end of the Regular Season. So now every game will be critical. Mahalbasic's overall stats this season are: 8.6ppg and 5.3rpg. He has a dual citizenship: Austrian and Slovenian.

   #2. Experienced Vlado Ilievski (190-PG-80, agency: Beo Basket, currently plays in Adriatic League), who plays in Croatia could not help Cedevita (12-10) to beat Szolnok (7-15). Ilievski cannot count Saturday's game as one of the best ones. He recorded only 3 points and added 4 passes in 19 minutes. Cedevita lost 59-64 on the road to the league outsider (#14) Szolnok. There are only four games left until the end of the Adriatic League Regular Season. So now every game is very crucial. This year Ilievski's total stats are: 5.0ppg, 1.1rpg and 2.2apg in the 20 games he played so far. He is another player who holds two passports: FYR Macedonian and Slovenian.

   #3. Jure Balazic (204-F-80, currently plays in Turkey) was not able to help Erdemir (7-12) in their game against Hacettepe (4-15) in the Turkish TBL. Balazic recorded 7 points and grabbed 4 rebounds. Erdemir was edged 71-69 at home by the one of league's weakest teams Hacettepe (#15). This season Balazic has relatively solid stats: 11.8ppg and 5.0rpg.

   #4. Damir Zeleznik (185-G-80, currently plays in Austria) led Xion Dukes to a victory over the closely-ranked Kapfenberg Bulls (15-6) 84-72 in the Austrian A Bundesliga last Monday. He was the top player that evening. Zeleznik scored 12 points and added 4 assists in 21 minutes. It was the game of the round between two top 4 ranked teams. Xion Dukes Klosterneuburg (15-6) is placed third in the A Bundesliga. It was his team's third consecutive victory in a row. Zeleznik has averaged so far 7.8ppg, 2.6rpg and 3.5apg in the 19 games. He has both Bosnia and Herzegovina and Slovenian nationalities.

   #5. Marko Milicevic (204-F-82, currently plays in Greece) contributed to an Ikaroi Serron's victory against the tenth-ranked Arkadikos (6-11) 65-60 in the Greek A2 (second division) on Saturday night. Milicevic scored 11 points, grabbed 9 rebounds and made 2 blocks. AOK Ikaroi Serron (11-6) is placed fifth in the A2. Milicevic has averaged so far 8.5ppg and 4.1rpg. He also holds two passports: Serbian and Slovenian.

   #6. Nejc Strnad (190-PG-83, currently plays in Greece) was not able to secure a victory for Ikaros in their game against Panathinaikos in the Greek A1. Strnad cannot count Sunday's game as one of the best ones. He scored only 3 points. His team was crushed by 25 points 97-72. This season Strnad averages just 2.7ppg.

Cafes Candelas Breogan Lugo (LEB Gold) strengthened their roster with addition of 29-year old Slovenian forward Dejan Cigoja (205-88). He played most recently at BC Raiffeisen Flyers Wels in Austrian A Bundesliga. In 39 games he recorded 9.2ppg, 4.1rpg and 1.2apg last season. Cigoja helped them to win the Supercup and make to league semifinals. NBA guard Goran Dragic(190-PG-86) has confirmed he is retiring from the Slovenia team that won the European basketball championship.
