    Burgos celebrated LEB Gold playoff title. They nipped Palencia on the road to sweep the championship series. The guests trailed by 13 points after three quarters before their 32-18 charge, which allowed them to win the game. 25 personal fouls committed by Palencia Baloncesto helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. It was a great evening for forward Eduardo Martinez (202-90) who led his team to a victory scoring 20 points (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field). British swingman Morayo Soluade (196-95) helped adding 11 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists. The best for the losing side was power forward Urko Otegui (203-81) with 14 points and 6 rebounds and forward Marc Blanch (195-82) scored 11 points and 4 assists.     The Regular Season in LEB Gold just ended. The fans could enjoy quite many interesting games in the last round. The round ended with favorites losing the games and games ending by tiny margin.

    LEB Gold top team - Gipuzkoa (25-9) added another victory to their record on Friday. This time they beat eighteenth ranked Marin (8-26) 98-90. The guests trailed by 8 points at the halftime before their 50-34 charge in the second half, which allowed them to win the game. Gipuzkoa dominated down low during the game scoring 56 of its points in the paint compared to Marin's 32. Worth to mention a great performance of American power forward Mike Carlson (206-91, college: Truman St., agency: Duran International) who helped to win the game recording 19 points and 5 rebounds. Forward Joan Pardina (202-93, agency: Interperformances) contributed with 16 points (on 7-of-8 shooting from the field) for the winners. American forward Jason Cain (208-85, college: Virginia) replied with 19 points and 8 rebounds for Marin. Gipuzkoa have an impressive five-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 25-9 record. Newly promoted Marin stay dead last with 26 lost games.
    The game in Ourense was also worth to mention about. Second ranked Leche Rio Breogan (24-10) played at the court of 8th ranked Ourense (18-16). Leche Rio Breogan defeated Ourense 88-75. Power forward Ivan Cruz-Uceda (208-91, college: Miami, FL) had a double-double by scoring 19 points and 10 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and Josep Franch chipped in 16 points and 6 assists during the contest. At the losing side American forward Kyle Hittle (196-94, college: Incarnate Word) responded with 20 points and 5 rebounds. Leche Rio Breogan maintains second position with 24-10 record behind leader Gipuzkoa GBC, which they share with Burgos. Ourense lost third consecutive game. They dropped to the ninth place with 16 games lost. They share the position with Forca Lleida.
    Seventeenth-ranked Cocinas.com (10-24) used its home court advantage to challenge tenth ranked Lleida Basquet (18-16) in Logrono on Friday. The visitors from Lleida managed to secure only three-point victory 87-84. However their fans expected much easier game. Garrett Nevels notched 39 points (!!!) and 5 rebounds (made all of his seven free throws) to lead the effort. Even 21 points by Seger Bonifant did not help to save the game for Cocinas.com. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Lleida Basquet moved-up to ninth place, which they share with Ourense. Cocinas.com at the other side keeps the seventeenth position with 24 games lost.
    Worth to mention about the upset in a game between Oviedo CB (22-12) and Barca II (13-21), which took place in Barcelona. Higher ranked Oviedo CB lost to fifteenth ranked Barca II in a road game 82-90. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of Oviedo CB. Jordi Trias fired 20 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field) for the winners. Both coaches tested many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Barca II moved-up to thirteenth place, which they share with Prat. Oviedo CB at the other side keeps the fourth position with 12 games lost.
    Another upset was a game between Caceres Basket (14-20) and Magia Huesca (11-23), which took place in Huesca. Higher ranked Caceres Basket lost to sixteenth ranked Magia Huesca in a road game 60-77 on Friday. It was a very good performance for Mirza Bulic who helped to win the game recording 17 points and 6 rebounds. Magia Huesca's coach Guillermo Arenas used a ten-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. Magia Huesca maintains sixteenth position with 11-23 record. Caceres Basket lost fifth consecutive game. Loser Caceres Basket keeps the eleventh place with 20 games lost.

    Other games in round 34 were not that significant. Prat beat Araberri on the road 82-74. Coruna won against Melilla on its own court 77-66. Castello unfortunately lost to Palma in S'Arenal 89-101. Burgos rolled over Palencia at home 97-71.
    The most impressive performance of 34th round was 14 points and 7 rebounds by Sergio Olmos of Coruna.

    CB Clavijo - Forca Lleida 84-87

    Seventeenth-ranked Cocinas.com (10-24) used its home court advantage to challenge tenth ranked Lleida Basquet (18-16) in Logrono on Friday. The visitors from Lleida managed to secure only three-point victory 87-84. However their fans expected much easier game. The guests trailed by 14 points after three quarters before their 35-18 charge, which allowed them to win the game. Lleida Basquet made 21-of-26 free shots (80.8 percent) during the game. American guard Garrett Nevels (188-92, college: Hawaii) notched 39 points (!!!) and 5 rebounds (made all of his seven free throws) to lead the effort and Brazilian forward Leonardo Demetrio (203-94) supported him with 17 points (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field). Even 21 points by American forward Seger Bonifant (201-93, college: W.Liberty St.) did not help to save the game for Cocinas.com. The guests started the game with a very strong first quarter 26-17. But Araberri won second period 23-18. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The game was decided in the last minutes when CB Prat won last quarter 24-17. It was a very good performance for Serbian forward Milan Nikolic (201-92) who helped to win the game recording 23 points and 8 rebounds (on 10-of-11 shooting from the field). Xabier Lopez (198-97) contributed with 19 points and 5 rebounds for the winners. CB Prat's coach Roberto Sanchez used a ten-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest.     The game in Ourense was also worth to mention about. Second ranked Leche Rio Breogan (24-10) played at the court of 8th ranked Ourense (18-16). Leche Rio Breogan defeated Ourense 88-75. The guests were tied after three quarters but managed to speed up in last quarter eventually winning the game. Leche Rio Breogan dominated down low during the game scoring 56 of its points in the paint compared to Ourense's 26. Power forward Ivan Cruz-Uceda (208-91, college: Miami, FL) had a double-double by scoring 19 points and 10 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and point guard Josep Franch (193-91) chipped in 16 points and 6 assists during the contest. At the losing side American forward Kyle Hittle (196-94, college: Incarnate Word) responded with 20 points and 5 rebounds and power forward Devin Wright (202-86) produced a double-double by scoring 12 points and 12 rebounds. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Leche Rio Breogan maintains second position with 24-10 record behind leader Gipuzkoa GBC, which they share with Burgos. Ourense lost third consecutive game. They dropped to the ninth place with 16 games lost. They share the position with Forca Lleida.

    Burgos - Palencia 97-71

    Not a big story in a game when 5th ranked Palencia Baloncesto (22-12) was outscored on the road by third ranked Burgos (24-10) 97-71 on Friday. The game was mostly controlled by Burgos. Palencia Baloncesto was better in third quarter 20-18. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. It was a very good performance for Serbian center Goran Huskic (210-92, college: Howard Col., TX) who helped to win the game recording 21 points and 9 rebounds. Center Javier Vega (205-88) contributed with 19 points and 7 rebounds for the winners. Four Burgos players scored in double figures. Naturalized Senegalese power forward Mamadou Samb (210-89) replied with 15 points and 6 rebounds and Venezuelan guard Jhornan Zamora (196-89) added 12 points and 5 rebounds in the effort for Palencia Baloncesto. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Burgos have a solid four-game winning streak. They moved-up to second place, which they share with Breogan. Loser Palencia Baloncesto dropped to the fourth position with 12 games lost.

    Another upset was a game between Caceres Basket (14-20) and Magia Huesca (11-23), which took place in Huesca. Higher ranked Caceres Basket lost to sixteenth ranked Magia Huesca in a road game 60-77 on Friday. The hosts trailed by 2 points after first quarter, but they stormed back to get the 3-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 77-60. It was a very good performance for Bosnian Mirza Bulic (207-92) who helped to win the game recording 17 points and 6 rebounds (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field). Swingman Mikel Motos (193-93, college: Sammic ISB) contributed with 16 points for the winners. Four Magia Huesca players scored in double figures. Magia Huesca's coach Guillermo Arenas used a ten-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. Montenegrin guard Nikola Rakocevic (191-91, agency: Dynamics Global Management) replied with 14 points and Croatian center Aleksandar Marcius (208-90, college: De Paul) added 10 points and 7 rebounds in the effort for Caceres Basket. Magia Huesca maintains sixteenth position with 11-23 record. Caceres Basket lost fifth consecutive game. Loser Caceres Basket keeps the eleventh place with 20 games lost.

    Oviedo claim Copa Princessa de Asturias Unico - Jan 28, 2017


    Oviedo sealed Copa Princessa de Asturias Unico beating Burgos 80-77 in the Final game. Oviedo started strong and grabbed a 27-18 lead at the end of the first period. They also led 9 points at the halftime, but could not keep control in the second half. Burgos replied with a 24-17 surge in the third period and reduced to 2 points with 10 minutes to go. Only due to 21-20 run in the last stanza Oviedo managed to win the game.
    Johan Lofberg (199-SG-95) top-scored for the winners with 18 points and Miquel Salvo Llambrich (205-C-94) netted 17 and was named MVP of the game. Eduardo Hernandez-Sonseca (212-C-83) followed them with 13 points in a win. Javier Vega (205-C-88) answered with 19 points in a loss, whilst Goran Huskic (210-C-92, college: Howard Col., TX) brought 13.
