    LEB Silver Round 30: CB Granada loses to Blancos de Rueda - Apr 23, 2017


    The Regular Season in LEB Silver just ended.

    The most important game in the last round took place in Valladolid between second ranked CB Granada (20-10) and seventh ranked Blancos de Rueda (17-13) on Saturday night. CB Granada was crushed by Blancos de Rueda on the road 59-80. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of CB Granada. The hosts trailed by 9 points at the halftime before their 48-18 charge in the second half, which allowed them to win the game. Blancos de Rueda dominated on the defensive end, holding CB Granada to just 5 points in third quarter. They dominated down low during the game scoring 46 of its points in the paint compared to CB Granada's 24. It was a good game for center Sergio De-La-Fuente (198-89) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 22 points and 11 rebounds. British forward Rowell Graham (197-94) contributed with 14 points, 8 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals for the winners. Croatian guard Ivan Milekovic (195-88) replied with 15 points for CB Granada. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Blancos de Rueda have a solid three-game winning streak. They moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Avila and Zornotza. CB Granada at the other side dropped to the third position with ten games lost. They share it with Lucentum.
    LEB Silver top team - Sammic ISB (23-7) added another victory to their record. This time they beat tenth ranked Alcazar (14-16) in Azpeitia 72-67. New Zealand center Mike Karena (208-93, college: Wright St.) scored 20 points and 6 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and Gaizka Maiza chipped in 14 points and 4 assists during the contest. Sammic ISB's coach Iker Bueno allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. The best for the losing side was American guard Lamonte Thomas (187-90, college: J.and Wales, RI) with 23 points and 6 assists. Sammic ISB maintains first position with 23-7 record. Alcazar lost third consecutive game. Newly promoted team keeps the tenth place with 16 games lost.
    A very close game took place in Moron de la Frontera between Moron and Navarra. Eighth ranked Moron (16-14) got a very close home victory over 9th ranked Navarra (15-15). Moron managed to escape with a 2-point win 81-79 in the fight for the eighth place. Alejandro Marin notched 26 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists to lead the effort. Even 15 points by Adrian Garcia did not help to save the game for Navarra. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Moron maintains eighth position with 16-14 record. Loser Navarra keeps the ninth place with 15 games lost.
    A very interesting game took place in Zamora. It ended with only two-point defeat on the road of 14th ranked Albacete (9-21) to twelfth ranked Zamorano (11-19) 83-81 on Saturday evening. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Albacete. The best player for the winners was Sango Niang who scored 22 points and 4 steals. They have an impressive six-game winning streak. Newly promoted Zamorano maintains twelfth position with 11-19 record. Albacete at the other side, also newcomer in the league, keeps the fourteenth place with 21 games lost.
    Worth to mention about the upset in a game between Fontedoso Carrefour (17-13) and L'Hospitalet (10-20), which took place in Hospitalet. Higher ranked Fontedoso Carrefour lost to thirteenth ranked L'Hospitalet in a road game 58-62 on Saturday. It was a good game for Gabriel Diaz-Morera who led his team to a victory with 18 points. L'Hospitalet's coach Jorge Tarragona used an eleven-player rotation in such tough game. Newly promoted L'Hospitalet maintains thirteenth position with 10-20 record. Fontedoso Carrefour lost third consecutive game. They keep the fifth place with 13 games lost.

    There were no big surprises in other games of round 30: bottom-ranked Gandia was smashed by Zornotza on the road 82-59. Agustinos-Leclerc lost to Cambados on its own court 76-85. Tarragona unfortunately lost to Lucentum in Alicante 63-78.
    The most impressive performance of 30th round was 19 points and 14 rebounds by Matthew Don of Cambados.

    Zornotza - Gandia 82-59

    No shocking result in a game when sixth ranked Zornotza (17-13) crushed bottom-ranked Gandia (8-22) in Amorebieta-Echano 82-59 on Saturday. The game without a history. Zornotza led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. Zornotza forced 20 Gandia turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. Gandia was plagued by 25 personal fouls down the stretch. It was a good game for Bahamas swingman JR Cadot (196-87, college: TCU, agency: Dynamics Global Management) who led his team to a victory with 19 points and 7 rebounds (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field). American-Jamaican guard Khalid Mutakabbir (193-91, college: Presbyterian, agency: Duran International) contributed with 18 points and 4 assists for the winners. Four Zornotza players scored in double figures. Montenegrin forward Vladimir Tomasevic (201-92) replied with 22 points and 7 rebounds and Guinean forward Cheick-Sekou Conde (203-92) added 14 points and 10 rebounds in the effort for Gandia. Zornotza have a solid three-game winning streak. They moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Valladolid and Avila. Newly promoted Gandia stay at the bottom position with 22 games lost.

New Zealand center Mike Karena (208-93, college: Wright St.) scored 20 points and 6 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and point guard Gaizka Maiza (191-96) chipped in 14 points and 4 assists during the contest. Sammic ISB's coach Iker Bueno allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. The best for the losing side was American guard Lamonte Thomas (187-90, college: J.and Wales, RI) with 23 points and 6 assists and Croatian guard Marko Proleta (195-94) scored 11 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. Four Alcazar players scored in double figures. Sammic ISB maintains first position with 23-7 record. Alcazar lost third consecutive game. Newly promoted team keeps the tenth place with 16 games lost.

    Valladolid beat Zornotza in Game 4 of the championship series to conquer the playoff title. Blancos de Rueda made 27-of-32 free shots (84.4 percent) during the game. 27 personal fouls committed by Zornotza helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. Worth to mention a great performance of American guard Henri Wade-Chatman (188-92, college: Edinboro) who helped to win the game recording 22 points and British forward Rowell Graham (197-94) who added 11 points and 11 rebounds during the contest. At the losing side Bahamas swingman JR Cadot (196-87, college: TCU, agency: Dynamics Global Management) responded with a double-double by scoring 18 points and 15 rebounds and point guard Iker Salazar (192-93) scored 9 points and 9 rebounds. Zornotza's coach Mikel Garitaonandia tried various players' combinations and tested in total eleven players in this game, but that didn't help.

    El Coviran Granada clinch Copa LEB Plata beating HLA Lucentum 80-74 in the Final game. Trailing 8 points at the end of the first period, Granada team pushed the tempo for good in the rest of the game to seal the victory. They won the second frame 20-15 and added a 21-15 rally in the third period. Moreover El Coviran Granada posted a final 20-17 run in the last stanza to seal the win.
    Jesus Fernandez (204-C-75) stepped up with 19 points to lead the winners and Rares Uta (211-C/F-97) collected 13 points and 8 rebounds. Guillermo Rejon (206-F/C-77) replied with 16 points in the losing effort, whilst Adrian Mendez (195-F-93) posted 13.
