Australia U19 overcame Spain U19 in the top game of Group C FIBA U19 World Championship. The team from Oceania won over the European representative 69:62 to take 2-0 record in the group.

Australia U19 overcame Spain U19 in the top game of Group C FIBA U19 World Championship. The team from Oceania won over the European representative 69:62 to take 2-0 record in the group. Australia jumped to a 20:11 at the end of the first quarter and never looked back. Another period brought the winners 13-12 and 33:23 at half time. The favorites did not slow down and made sure the game was in a proper current added 22-18 in the third frame. Spain bounced back only with 21-14 in the last quarter but it was not enough for the total success. Spain made just 5/24 from the perimeter in the game. Overall Spain shot 26/67 from the field. Australia shot the ball at 47% from the field and 33% from the three point line. Ryan Broekhoff (196-F-90) was responsible for 16 points and 7 rebounds. Brock Motum (205-F-90) nailed 14 and Jorden Page (183-G-90) tallied 10. Toni Vicens (202-C-90) finished the game with 17 points and Perez notched 10 in defeat. Syria U19 and Canada U19 lost the openers of the FIBA U19 World Championship and hoped to better their positions in Day 2. The North American representative had a fabulous game to take 99:53 victory in another game of the group. Syria will play against Australia tomorrow morning. Canada will face Spain in their last game of the group.

Alta Gestion Fuenlabrada have signed Latvian big man Kaspars Berzins (213-F/C-85, agency: FCM) on a three year deal from Barons of Riga. Coach Luis Guil has proclaimed the forward as one of the best young players in Europe with the 23 year old also part of the Latvia National Team heading for Eurobasket 2009. Berzins averaged over 10 points and 7 points per game last season while also playing in EuroCup. A good defender, he will form part of a new look Fuenla team for 2009-10 [read more]
