The most important game in the last round took place in La Palma between second ranked UB La Palma (16-8) and eighth ranked Girona FC (13-11) on Friday night. UB La Palma was defeated by Girona FC in a tough game at home 67-71. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of UB La Palma. The guests trailed by 1 point after first quarter, but they rallied back to get the 3-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 71-67. Worth to mention a great performance of Latvian power forward Rolands Freimanis (207-88, agency: Players Group) who helped to win the game recording 13 points and 7 rebounds and point guard Ignacio Ordin (183-78) who added 10 points and 5 rebounds during the contest. The best for the losing side was Mexican-American forward Roman Martinez (201-88, college: N.Mexico) with 13 points and 6 rebounds. UB La Palma's coach tried various players' combinations and tested in total twelve players in this game, but that didn't help. Girona FC maintains eighth position with 13-11 record. UB La Palma at the other side keeps the second place with eight games lost. They share the position with Menorca. Girona FC are looking forward to face higher ranked Lleida Basquet (#7) at home in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. UB La Palma will play against Caceres 2016 (#12) and is hoping to win this game.
Melilla Baloncesto (#4) was upset in Pamplona by seventh ranked Grupo Iruna Navarra 83-75. The winners were led by guard Inaki Narros (194-81) who scored that evening 33 points (!!!) and Ondrej Starosta supported him with 12 points and 9 rebounds. Even 19 points by guard Jose Salvador Arco (194-85) did not help to save the game for Melilla Baloncesto. Grupo Iruna Navarra have a solid three-game winning streak. They moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Burgos. Melilla Baloncesto at the other side dropped to the sixth position with ten games lost. They share it with Lleida. Grupo Iruna Navarra will play against Leche Rio Breogan (#13) in Lugo in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Melilla Baloncesto will play at home against Ford Burgos (#5) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
LEB Gold top team - Canarias (19-5) managed to deliver another win on Friday. This time they beat eleventh ranked Caceres 2016 (11-13) in Tenerife 80-71. The best player for the winners was Ricardo Guillen who scored 21 points (went 8 for 8 at the free throw line). An interesting game took place in Lleida where higher ranked Lleida Basquet (14-10) was upset on its own court by twelfth ranked CB Clavijo (11-13) 69-63. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Lleida Basquet. It was a good game for Olaseni Lawal who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 15 points and 13 rebounds (perfect from the field making all seven shots !!!). CB Clavijo's coach Jesus Sala allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. CB Clavijo moved-up to eleventh place, which they share with Caceres and Breogan. Lleida Basquet at the other side dropped to the sixth position with ten games lost. CB Clavijo's next round opponent will be higher ranked Palencia Baloncesto (#10) at home and it may be quite challenging game.
Sixteenth ranked Lobe Huesca (9-15) crushed at home 18th ranked Clinicas Rincon (4-20) by 32 points 86-54, which is the biggest margin this round on Friday night.
