Spain registered the second straight win at the international tournament in Kaunas. They held off Latvia tonight. Marta Fernandez (178-F-81) stepped up with 13 points to lead the winners. Spain scored 21 points in the opening quarter take a 2-point lead. Spain held their opponents to 13 points in the second quarter to deepen the distance. They established a 38:32 halftime lead. Latvia however matched the tempo in the third quarter. They unloaded 21 points of their own in the quarter and levelled things up at 53. Spain needed to turn on their best defence in the final period to hold off Latvia and celebrate a tough win at the end. Anna Montanana (186-F-80, agency: Josep and Nicolas, college: G.Washington) posted 9 points, while Cristina Ouvina (174-G-90), Laia Palau (178-G-79) and Lucila Pascua (195-C-83) added 7 points each in the win. Tintos de Toro Caja Rural Zamora (LFB) landed 22-year old Latvian ex-international forward Linda Rubene (190-91). She just graduated from Indiana (NCAA). The last season Rubene also at Indiana University in Big Ten Conference in the NCAA. But in 24 games she averaged only 1.7ppg and 1.3rpg. As mentioned above she is just out of the college and it is her first season in pro basketball. Rubene was also a member of Latvian international program for some years. She played for Latvian Senior National Team in 2010 and previously for U18 National Team in 2009. Rubene represented Latvia at the European Championships U20 in Liepaja (Latvia) three years ago. Her team won Bronze and her stats at that event were 9 games: 0.9ppg. Rubene has played previously for 47.vsk and SK Riga.

Abalde played for Spanish Senior National Team between 2008 and 2012 and previously for U19 National Team in 2007. She represented Spain at the European Championships U20 in Gdynia (Poland) four years ago.
