Serbia advanced into the semifinal round of U16 European Championship. They nipped Spain in the thrilling quarterfinal battle in Vilnius tonight. Ilija Dokovic (185-G-96) converted two free throws late in regulation to seal the win for Serbia.
Serbia jumped to an early lead. They posted a 20:14 lead after ten minutes of action. Spain slowed their opponents down in the second quarter. Spain denied the deficit and eked out a 32:31 halftime lead. Spain stretched the lead in the third term. They secured a 7-point lead at the final intermission. But Serbia ignited a 9:0 run early in the final period to level things up at 57. Daskalovic put Serbia in charge with a three-pointer 64:61 midway through the final frame. But Brais Gago (180-G-96) gave Spain a 67:66 lead with under two minutes to go. But Ilija Dokovic nailed two free throws, while Bauza missed a jumper as Serbia ran away with the victory. Vukan Stojanovic (192-SG-96) knocked down 17 points, while Nikola Pavlovic (199-PF-96) added 13 points for the winners. Brais Gago answered with 17 points for Spain. Marc Garcia (194-F-96) had 14 points in the loss.

Palma Air Europa de Palma de Mallorca (LEB Gold) added to their roster 27-year old Lithuanian center Tautvydas Slezas (207-115kg-90, agency: Interperformances) from RETAbet Gipuzkoa BC San Sebastian. In 33 LEB Gold games in Spain he recorded 7.1ppg, 6.5rpg and 1.5apg last season. He helped them to win the LEB Gold title (twice). Slezas also spent pre-season at RETAbet that year. Alvarado played last season at Araberri in the LEB Gold. In 33 games he had 5.4ppg, 3.7rpg, 5.4apg and 1.4spg. LEB Silver will be definitely a better match and he can see more playing time. Melilla Baloncesto (LEB Gold) strengthened their roster with addition of 30-year old power forward Javier Lucas (207-87) from Leyma Basquet Coruna. In 39 LEB Gold games he recorded 6.1ppg and 3.8rpg last season. The previous (15-16) season Lucas played at Palma where in 30 LEB Gold games he averaged 6.0ppg and 4.9rpg.
