Real Madrid - Panathinaikos 85:78

Real Madrid accounted for the first win in EuroLeague regular season. The Spanish powerhouse prevailed against Panathinaikos behind 23 points from Rudy Fernandez (198-SF-85). It was never an easy game for Real. They eked out a narrow 22:20 lead after ten minutes. However Pedoulakis team adjusted defensively and surged ahead in the second frame. The Hellenes limited Real to 13 points in the quarter to take a 44:35 halftime lead. Real needed some strong words from Pablo Laso in the dressing room to change the complexion of the game in the second half. They fired 24 points in the third quarter to regain the advantage. The hosts entered the fourth term trailing by a single point 59:60. Real erased the deficit and surged ahead in the fourth quarter. The hosts stayed confident in the dying minutes to secure the opening win in the EuroLeague season. Nikola Mirotic (207-F/C-91) delivered 18 points and 8 rebounds, while Sergio Llull (192-SG-87) contributed 15 points for Real Madrid. Sofoklis Schortsanitis (206-C-85) answered with 23 points for Panathinaikos. Dimitris Diamantidis (196-G-80) chipped in 13 points and issued 6 assists in the loss.
