LFB Round 3: Rivas Ecopolis defeat Argon Uni Girona - Oct 27, 2012

There were just three rounds played in Regular Season of LFB and we can clearly see which teams will fight for top positions and which will try to avoid bottom places.

The most crucial game of the last round was the first loss of undefeated Argon Uni Girona (1-1) on the court of leader Rivas Ecopolis on Saturday night. Visitors were defeated by Rivas Ecopolis 76-65. The game was mostly controlled by Rivas Ecopolis. Argon Uni Girona managed to win fourth quarter 20-14. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. It was a good game for American center Aneika Henry (193-86, college: Florida) who led her team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 15 points and 10 rebounds (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field). International point guard Anna Cruz (173-86, agency: Josep and Nicolas) contributed with 10 points for the winners. American power forward Jacinta Monroe (193-88, college: Florida St.) answered with 16 points and 5 rebounds for Argon Uni Girona. Rivas Ecopolis have a solid series of three victories in a row. They maintain first place with 3-0 record, which they share with UNB Obenasa. Argon Uni Girona at the other side dropped to the fourth position with one game lost. They share it with Perfumerias and Cadi ICG S.. Rivas Ecopolis is looking forward to face Cadi ICG S. (#4) in Seu D'urgell in the next round. Argon Uni Girona will play at home against Caja Rural in Zamora and is hoping to prove to their supporters that the loss was just an accident.
Another interesting game for Jopisa Burgos (2-1) which played in Las Palmas against 3rd placed Gran Canaria (1-2). Fourth ranked Jopisa Burgos had an easy win 78-59. It was a great evening for center Laura Gil (190-92, agency: Josep and Nicolas) who led her team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 21 points and 10 rebounds. Rachel Allison helped adding 19 points and 8 rebounds. The best for the losing side was Senegalese center Astou Ndour (196-94) with 16 points and 7 rebounds. Gran Canaria's coach Domingo Diaz rotated ten players seeing no chance for a win. Jopisa Burgos moved-up to third place. Gran Canaria at the other side dropped to the seventh position with two games lost. They share it with 3 other teams. Jopisa Burgos will play against bottom-ranked Socinsa Bembibre (#11) at home in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Gran Canaria will play against Conquero (#8) in Huelva and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
A very close game took place in Hondarribia between Conquero and Hondarribia-Irun. Eleventh ranked Conquero (1-2) got a very close victory on the road over higher ranked Hondarribia-Irun (1-2). Conquero managed to escape with a 1-point win 69-68 in the game for the seventh place. It was an exceptional evening for Joanna Walich who led the winners and scored 15 points and 7 rebounds. Tatiana Gomez came up with 20 points and 7 rebounds for Hondarribia-Irun in the defeat. Conquero left bottom position moving up to seventh place, which they share with 3 other teams including defeated Hondarribia-Irun. Conquero will meet at home Gran Canaria (#9) in the next round. Hondarribia-Irun will play against Perfumerias Avenida in Salamanca and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
Worth to mention about the upset in a game between Caja Rural (1-2) and Perfumerias Avenida (1-1), which took place in Zamora. 4th placed Caja Rural lost at home to ninth ranked Perfumerias Avenida 67-76. The best player for the winners was Roneeka Hodges who scored 23 points and 5 rebounds. Caja Rural's coach Juan De Mena tested ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Perfumerias Avenida left bottom position moving up to fourth place, which they share with Cadi ICG S. and Uni Girona. Newly promoted Caja Rural dropped to the seventh position with two games lost. Perfumerias Avenida's next round opponent will be Hondarribia-Irun (#10) at home which should be theoretically an easy game. Caja Rural will play against Argon Uni Girona and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

In the last game of round 3 UNB Obenasa beat Bembibre on the road 65-48.


Gran Canaria - Burgos 59-78

Another interesting game for Jopisa Burgos (2-1) which played in Las Palmas against 3rd placed Gran Canaria (1-2). Fourth ranked Jopisa Burgos had an easy win 78-59. Gran Canaria was ahead by 2 points at the halftime before a 50-29 second half run of Jopisa Burgos. They outrebounded Gran Canaria 41-25 including 30 on the defensive glass. It was a great evening for center Laura Gil (190-92, agency: Josep and Nicolas) who led her team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 21 points and 10 rebounds. American Rachel Allison (185-87, college: Baylor) helped adding 19 points and 8 rebounds. The best for the losing side was Senegalese center Astou Ndour (196-94) with 16 points and 7 rebounds and international power forward Vanessa Ble (190-91) scored 8 points and 11 rebounds. Gran Canaria's coach Domingo Diaz rotated ten players seeing no chance for a win. Jopisa Burgos moved-up to third place. Worth to mention about the upset in a game between Caja Rural (1-2) and Perfumerias Avenida (1-1), which took place in Zamora. 4th placed Caja Rural lost at home to ninth ranked Perfumerias Avenida 67-76. The guests were already 16 points ahead after 3 quarters before a 22-15 Caja Rural's run in the last quarter cut the lead to 76-67 at the end of the game. It was a great shooting night for Perfumerias Avenida especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 53.3 percentage. The best player for the winners was American guard Roneeka Hodges (180-82, college: Florida St., agency: Josep and Nicolas) who scored 23 points and 5 rebounds. Swingman Nicole Powell (188-82, college: Stanford, agency: LBM Management) chipped in 18 points (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field). No shocking result in a game when leader Navarra Pamplona (3-0) beat on the road bottom-ranked Socinsa Bembibre (0-3) 65-48. The game without a history. Navarra Pamplona led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. The best player for the winners was Latvian power forward Aija Putnina (191-88, agency: Josep and Nicolas) who scored 17 points.
