Sancho Lyttle's double-double lands her Player of the Week award among Spaniards playing currently abroad - Oct 31, 2012

We bring you last week's top performances from Spaniards who are playing abroad and who all have had prior experience of national team duties at youth or senior level.


Sancho Lyttle

   #1. This week's number one is an international center Sancho Lyttle (192-83, college: Houston, currently plays in Euroleague). She led her Turkish team Galatasaray to a 2-point victory over the seventh-ranked USK Praha (0-2) 58-56 in the Euroleague in Wednesday night's game. Lyttle was MVP of the game. She had a double-double by scoring 17 points and getting 12 rebounds in 27 minutes on the court. Galatasaray M.P. Istanbul (2-0) is placed first in group C. But this is still an early stage of the season and everything may happen. It's Lyttle's first year with the team. Lyttle belongs to league's best rebounders (ranked #3) and also on the list of best blockers (fourth place). She has very reliable stats this year: 13.0ppg, 10.5rpg, 4.0spg, 2FGP: 54.5% in the two games she played so far. Lyttle has a dual citizenship: Vincentian and Spanish. Ex-EBE Promociones P.D.V. Santa Eulalia player is currently a member of the Spanish senior national team.

Elisa Aguilar

   #2. Second place goes to an experienced international guard Elisa Aguilar (172-76, agency: Josep and Nicolas, college: G.Washington, currently plays in Euroleague). She contributed to a Spartak Vidnoye's victory against the sixth-ranked Tarsus Bld (0-1) 88-81 in the Euroleague last Wednesday. Aguilar recorded 9 points and grabbed 4 rebounds. Spartak Vidnoe Moscow Region (2-0) is placed first in group A. But the season just started, so everything may happen. This year Aguilar averages: 7.0ppg, 3.0rpg, 2.0apg, 3FGP: 66.7%. She is in the roster of the Spanish senior national team.

   #3. The Spanish player who performed third best last week abroad was an international point guard Silvia Dominguez (167-87, currently plays in Euroleague). Dominguez led her Russian team UMMC Ekaterinburg to a victory against the sixth-ranked Lupa Promotion (0-2) 83-77 in the Euroleague on Wednesday night. She scored 12 points and added 3 passes in 25 minutes. It was his first game for UMMC Ekaterinburg this season. Her team is placed third in group C. But the season is still in it's first stage and everything can happen. It's Dominguez's first year with the team. Dominguez played for the Spanish national team one years ago.

   #4. Guard Laia Palau (176-79, currently plays in Euroleague), who plays in Poland could not help CCC Polkowice (1-1) in their last game on Wednesday. Despite her good performance the fourth-placed CCC Polkowice was defeated in an overtime 86-82 at home by the second-ranked Mondeville in the group C of Euroleague. Palau recorded 10 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists. But there are still lots of games to play and it's a long way to go. Palau is currently fifth on the list of best passers. This season she has very good stats: 10.5ppg, 6.5rpg and 5.5apg. Palau is also Spanish national team player.

   #5. International guard Cristina Ouvina (174-90, currently plays in Euroleague) was not able to help Wisla Can-Pak (0-2) in their game against Bourges (1-1) in the Euroleague, despite her good performance last Wednesday. She recorded 10 points, 6 assists and 5 steals in 32 minutes. But Wisla Can-Pak (#7) lost 55-61 on the road to the higher-ranked (#3) Bourges in the group A of Euroleague. Ouvina is currently fourth on the league's list of best passers and also on the list of most steals (second place). This year her overall stats are: 7.0ppg, 4.5rpg, 6.0apg and 4.0spg in the two games. Ouvina plays currently for the Spanish national team.

   #6. Point guard Nuria Martinez (175-84, currently plays in Eurocup) was not able to secure a victory for Kayseri (0-1) in their game against Gorizont (1-0) in the Eurocup. She recorded 8 points, 4 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals. It was his first game for Kayseri this season. Kayseri was defeated 78-73 in Minsk by the leading Gorizont. There are only three games left until the end of the Eurocup Regular Season. So now every game will be critical. Martinez is a former international player as she played for the Spanish senior team two years ago.

   #7. International forward Amaya Valdemoro (183-76, also represented by Josep and Nicolas, currently plays in Euroleague) faced previously mentioned Elisa Aguilar in the Euroleague last game. Valdemoro couldn't help Tarsus Bld (0-1) in their game against Spartak Vidnoye (2-0). Despite her very good performance last Wednesday She recorded 16 points. It was his first game for Tarsus Bld this season. Valdemoro is also Spanish national team player.

Tamara Abalde

   #8. Forward Tamara Abalde (190-89, another player represented by Josep and Nicolas, currently plays in France) helped Basket Landes win their game against the league outsider Villeneuve D'Ascq (1-5) crushing them 70-50 in the French LFB on Saturday night. She scored 7 points, had 4 rebounds and dished 3 assists in 24 minutes. Basket Landes (4-2) is placed fifth in the LFB. It's Abalde's first season with the team. This year Abalde's total stats are: 7.7ppg and 3.3rpg in the six games. She plays currently for the Spanish national team.

   #9. International forward Anna Montanana (186-80, another player represented by Josep and Nicolas, college: G.Washington, currently plays in Turkey) helped Istanbul Universitesi win their game against the tenth-ranked Antakya (1-1) 74-64 in the Turkish TKBL in Sunday night's game. Montanana scored 8 points and grabbed 6 rebounds. Istanbul Universitesi SK (1-1) is placed fifth in the TKBL. Montanana has averaged so far 9.5ppg, 5.5rpg, 1.5apg and 2.0spg. She is also in the roster of the Spanish national team.

   #10. Guard Gabriela Ocete (170-88, currently plays in Eurocup) managed to help Tarbes Gespe Bigorre to win against the closely-ranked Mersin (0-1) 80-68 in the Eurocup on Wednesday night. Ocete recorded only 2 points, 6 assists and 3 steals. It was his first game for Tarbes this season. It was the game of the round between two top 4 ranked teams. Her team is placed second in the Eurocup. There are only four games left until the end of the Eurocup Regular Season. So now every game is very crucial. Ocete is a former U20 international player as four years ago she still played for the Spanish national team.

   #11. International center Cindy Lima (196-81, another player represented by Josep and Nicolas, currently plays in Turkey) is a teammate of previously mentioned Amaya Valdemoro. But that was another game of her team in Turkish TKBL which we would like to mention. Lima couldn't help Tarsus Bld in their game against Botas. She cannot count Sunday's game as one of the best ones. Lima scored only 2 points, grabbed 8 rebounds and made 2 blocks. Her team was defeated 96-83. Lima has averaged so far 2.0ppg and 6.0rpg. She plays currently for the Spanish national team.


The list of other players, who all have Spanish passport but never been selected to any of Spanish national teams:

   #1. Laura Garcia (176-G-81, currently plays in Eurocup) led her French team Union Hainaut to an easy victory against the league leader TED Ankara (1-0) crushing them 82-51 in the Eurocup in Thursday night's game. She recorded 12 points in 27 minutes. It was his first game for Union Hainaut this season. It was the game of the round between two top 4 ranked teams. Her team is placed first in the Eurocup.

   #2. Lorena Infantes (171-PG-81, agency: Regeneracom Sports, currently plays in Italy), who plays in the Italian A1 could not help Orvieto (2-1) to beat Taranto (2-1). Infantes scored 5 points in 31 minutes. Orvieto was crushed 74-47 on the road by the second-ranked Taranto. Infantes is currently fourth on the league's list of best passers with 3.3apg. This year she also averages: 10.7ppg, 4.0rpg and 2.0spg in the three games she played so far.

   #3. Helena Boada (174-G-87, also represented by Regeneracom Sports, currently plays in Slovenia), who plays in the Slovenian SKL was not able to help Domzale (0-2) in their last game. Despite her very good performance Domzale was crushed 89-44 in Kranj by the higher-ranked (#3) Triglav. Boada was the top scorer with 18 points in 32 minutes. It was his first game for Domzale this season.

   #4. Natasha Lacy (178-G-85, agency: Merit Sports, college: UTEP, currently plays in Eurocup) was not able to secure a victory for Elitzur Ramla (0-1) in their game against Antakya (2-0) in the Eurocup. Lacy recorded 9 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists in 32 minutes. It was his first game for Elitzur Ramla this season. But Elitzur Ramla lost 63-69 in Hatay to the leading Antakya.

   #5. Experienced Valentina Aragonese (173-F-79, agency: Josep and Nicolas, currently plays in Italy) couldn't help Ancona (3-2) in their game against T. La Spezia (2-1) in the Italian A2 (12th division). Aragonese recorded 7 points. Ancona (#4) was edged 59-56 at home by the lower-ranked T. La Spezia (#6) in the South group. Aragonese has averaged so far 10.0ppg and 3.0rpg. She has a dual citizenship: Chilean and Spanish.

Herrera re-signs at Campus Promete - 2 hours ago
Campus Promete Logrono (LFB) confirmed in their roster 28-year old international power forward Laura Herrera (190-89, agency: ProDep Management). She played there last season. In 26 LFB games she had 7.2ppg, 6.1rpg and 1.9apg. The previous (15-16) season Herrera played at Socinsa Bembibre where in 26 games she recorded 7.0ppg, 4.3rpg and 1.2apg. Spain U20 wins Torneo de Bourg-en-Bresse - 2 hours ago
Spain U20 won Torneo de Bourg-en-Bresse in France. The team finished on top with a 2-1 record despite the loss to Serbia U20 59-62. In Day 1 Spain U20 overcame Portugal U20 89-56 as Angela ALVAREZ posted 15 points to lead all the winners. Last night Spain U20 triumphed at the tournament after a 74-49 win over the hosts. Angela ALVAREZ stepped up with 19 points and Paula Ginzo(187-F-98) added 13.   [read more]

Nascimento re-signs at Al-Qazeres - 3 hours ago
CB Al-Qazeres Extremadura (LFB) confirmed in their roster 31-year old Portuguese ex-international guard Carla Nascimento (171-86). She has played there for the last two seasons. In 13 LFB games she had 4.2ppg, 4.0rpg, 1.8apg and 1.0spg last season. Nascimento won Spanish LF2 championship title for three years in a row (between 2014 and 2016).
