We bring you last week's top performances from Spaniards who are playing abroad and who all have had prior experience of national team duties at youth or senior level.

   #1. This week's number one is an international center Marc Gasol (216-85, agency: Interperformances, currently plays in NBA). He led Memphis Grizzlies to a victory over the Utah Jazz (1-3) 103-94 in the NBA in Monday night's game. Gasol was MVP of the game. He recorded 22 points, 8 rebounds, 8 assists and made 3 blocks (made all of his ten free throws !!!) in 36 minutes on the court. The Memphis Grizzlies have 1-1 record this season. But this is still an early stage of the season and everything may happen. It's Gasol's fifth year with the team. Gasol has individually a very good season with high stats. He averages: 21.0ppg, 7.0rpg, 6.0apg, 1.7bpg, 2FGP: 56.8%(21-37) and FT: 95.5%(21-22) in the three games he played so far. Gasol is currently a member of the Spanish senior national team.

   #2. Second place goes to an international power forward Pau Gasol (213-80, currently plays in NBA), who plays in the NBA. He could not help the Los Angeles Lakers (1-2) in their last game on Tuesday. Despite Gasol's very good performance the Los Angeles Lakers were defeated 99-91 on the road by the Dallas Mavericks. He recorded a double-double by scoring 23 points and getting 13 rebounds. Gasol also added 6 assists and 3 blocks. But the season just started, so everything may happen. Gasol is one of the most experienced players in a team as it's his fifth year in Lakers' roster. This season he has very high stats. Gasol averages: 15.8ppg, 10.3rpg, 3.3apg, 1.5bpg, 2FGP: 44.6% and FT: 83.3%. He is in the roster of the Spanish senior national team.

   #3. The Spanish player who performed third best last week abroad was an international power forward Serge Ibaka (208-89, currently plays in NBA). Ibaka was the major contributor in an Oklahoma City Thunder's victory against the Toronto Raptors (1-3) crushing them 108-88 in the NBA in Tuesday night's game. He scored 17 points, grabbed 4 rebounds and made 2 blocks. The Oklahoma City Thunder has 2-2 record this season. But there are still lots of games to play and it's a long way to go. Ibaka has relatively good stats this season: 10.5ppg, 5.8rpg, 2.3bpg, 2FGP: 55.9%(19-34). He has a dual citizenship: Congolese and Spanish. Ex-C.B. L'Hospitalet player is also a member of the Spanish senior national team.

Jose Manuel Calderon

   #4. Point guard Jose Manuel Calderon (192-81, currently plays in NBA), who plays in the NBA was not able to help the Toronto Raptors (1-3) in their last game. Despite Calderon's very good performance the Toronto Raptors were edged 90-88 in Indianapolis by the Indiana Pacers. He scored 15 points and added 3 passes in 26 minutes. Calderon has been at the team for eight years. This season Calderon has relatively solid stats: 8.0ppg, 2.8apg and 1.3spg in the four games. He is also Spanish national team player.

   #5. Former international center Albert Miralles (208-82, also represented by Interperformances, currently plays in Euroleague) was not able to secure a victory for ALBA Berlin (2-2) in their game against Unicaja Malaga (3-1) in the Euroleague. He recorded only 4 points, 10 rebounds and 3 assists in 26 minutes. The third-placed ALBA Berlin lost 62-67 in Malaga to the second-ranked Unicaja in the group B of Euroleague. It's Miralles' first season with the team. This year Miralles' overall stats are: 6.3ppg and 5.3rpg in the four games. He used to play for the Spanish national team seven years ago.

   #6. Point guard Miguel Ortega (188-91, currently plays in Denmark) contributed to an easy victory against the closely-ranked Vaerlose (3-4) 95-80 in the Danish Ligaen in Saturday night's game. Ortega had a double-double by scoring 12 points and making 11 passes. He also added 5 rebounds in 37 minutes. Randers Cimbria Basketball (3-6) is placed seventh in the Ligaen. Ortega is ranked second on the list of the best passers in the league and also on the list of most steals (third place). He has very reliable stats this year: 14.3ppg, 3.9rpg, 6.4apg and 2.2spg in the nine games. Ortega is a former U18 international player as he played for the Spanish team three years ago.

   #7. Former international point guard Salvador Camps (178-79, currently plays in Ireland) contributed to Moycullen's victory against the closely-ranked UCD Marian (2-4) 77-72 in the Irish Superleague in Saturday night's game. He recorded a double-double by scoring 12 points and making the same number of passes. Camps also added 5 rebounds and 4 steals. Moycullen Galway (1-4) closes the standings in the Superleague. But the situation may improve as they ended a series of four consecutive loses. Camps' total stats this season are: 10.0ppg, 3.0rpg, 8.0apg and 3.0spg. He used to play for the Spanish national team eleven years ago.


The list of other players, who all have Spanish passport but never been selected to any of Spanish national teams:

   #1. Luis Scola (206-F/C-80, currently plays in NBA), who plays in the NBA could not help the Phoenix Suns (1-3) in their last game. Despite Scola's very good performance the Phoenix Suns were crushed 115-94 on the road by the Orlando Magic. He was the top scorer with 24 points. Scola also added 7 rebounds and dished 4 assists in 32 minutes. But the season is still in it's first stage and everything can happen. It's Scola's first year with the team. He has individually a very good season with high stats. Scola averages: 16.8ppg, 8.8rpg, 1.5apg and 1.5spg in the four games he played so far. He has a dual citizenship: Argentinian and Spanish.

   #2. Tiago Splitter (211-C/F-85, agency: Interperformances, currently plays in NBA) contributed to a San Antonio Spurs' victory against the New Orleans Hornets (2-1) 99-95 in the NBA on Wednesday night. Splitter scored 7 points and grabbed 6 rebounds. The San Antonio Spurs have 4-0 record this season. So far his team won all four games in the Regular Season. Splitter's overall stats this season are: 4.8ppg and 3.8rpg. He is another player who holds two passports: Brazilian and Spanish.

   #3. Esteban Batista (208-C/F-83, agency: Duran International, currently plays in Euroleague) helped his Turkish team Anadolu Efes win their game against the fifth-ranked Caja Laboral (1-3) 76-64 in the Euroleague in Thursday night's game. Batista recorded 9 points in 16 minutes. Anadolu Efes Istanbul (3-1) is placed second in group C. It was his team's third consecutive victory in a row. It's Batista's first season with the team. This year his overall stats are: 8.5ppg and 1.5rpg in the two games. Batista has both Uruguayan and Spanish nationalities.

   #4. Gustavo Barrera (194-G-85, currently plays in Uruguay), who plays in the Uruguayan LUB was not able to help Hebraica (10-4) in their last game on Saturday. Despite his very good performance the second-placed Hebraica was defeated 89-76 in a derby game by the lower-ranked Trouville (#5) in the Capital group. Barrera was the top scorer with 18 points. He also added 5 rebounds and dished 6 assists. Barrera is currently third on the league's list of best passers and also on the list of most steals (third place). He has very reliable stats this season: 11.7ppg, 4.0rpg, 6.6apg and 2.2spg. Barrera also holds two passports: Spanish and Uruguayan.

   #5. Experienced Ignacio Ordin (183-PG-78, currently plays in France) led Pau-Lacq-Orthez to an easy victory against the closely-ranked Nantes (5-2) 98-83 in the French ProB (second division) in Friday night's game. Ordin recorded 15 points, 4 rebounds and 5 assists. Elan Bearnais Pau-Lacq-Orthez (6-1) is placed second in the ProB. Ordin's total stats this season are: 8.7ppg, 2.7rpg and 4.7apg.

   #6. Sergi Coll (204-F/C-82, currently plays in Portugal) helped Ovarense win their game against the closely-ranked Lusitania crushing them 82-58 in the Portuguese LPB last Thursday. He scored 10 points, had 5 rebounds and dished 3 assists in 27 minutes. Coll has reliable stats this year: 11.0ppg, 6.0rpg and 2.0apg in the three games.

   #7. Pablo Ibon (201-F-76, currently plays in Uruguay), who plays in the Uruguayan LUB was not able to secure a victory for Aguada (0-0) in their last game on Monday. Despite his good performance Aguada was edged 81-78 in Montevideo by the much lower-ranked Olimpia (#9) in the Capital group. Ibon scored 11 points. Ibon's total stats this season are: 5.8ppg and 1.8rpg. He has Spanish and Uruguayan nationalities.

   #8. Rodrigo Riera (184-G-72, currently plays in Uruguay) led Cordon to a victory against the tenth-ranked Sayago 72-66 in the Uruguayan LUB last Tuesday. He scored 11 points and grabbed 4 rebounds. Riera's total stats this season are: 6.3ppg, 2.3rpg and 1.9apg. He holds both Spanish and Uruguayan passports.

   #9. Martin Calvo (198-F-88, currently plays in United Kingdom) couldn't help the league outsider Liverpool Mersey Tigers in their game against Cheshire Jets in the British BBL, despite his very good performance on Sunday night. Calvo was the second best scorer with 16 points. He also added 4 rebounds and dished 3 assists in 32 minutes. It was his first game for Liverpool Mersey Tigers this season. But his team lost 73-79. Calvo has Argentinian and Spanish nationalities.

   #10. Carlos Cherry (184-PG-79, agency: Global Sports Plaza, currently plays in France) couldn't help Quimper UJAP in their game against JA Vichy in the French NM1 (third division). Despite his good performance in Saturday night's game He was the second best scorer with 12 points. Cherry's total stats this season are: 8.8ppg, 3.2rpg, 4.4apg and 1.4spg.

Aceitunas Fragata Moron (LEB Silver) signed experienced 38-year old power forward Jesus Chagoyen (202-114kg-78). He has played for the last two seasons at Rio Natura Monbus Obradoiro CAB in the Liga Endesa. Liga Endesa was a little too high level for him, where in 12 Liga Endesa games he had just 1.4ppg and 2.3rpg last season. He will still stay in Spain where he played last season at RETAbet Gipuzkoa BC San Sebastian in Spanish Liga Endesa.
