Round 5 in LEB Silver means a new league leader. The biggest surprise took place in Oviedo where host Oviedo CB (3-1) crushed league's leader Lan Mobel ISB (3-1) 79-57 on Saturday evening. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Lan Mobel ISB. It was a key game for the second position in the league. The game was mostly controlled by Oviedo CB. Lan Mobel ISB managed to win second period 13-11. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The best player for the winners was American-Irish swingman Will Hanley (200-G/F-90, agency: Duran International, college: Bowdoin) who had a double-double by scoring 14 points and 14 rebounds. Forward Diego Sanchez (198-78) chipped in 19 points and 6 rebounds. American forward Lance Kearse (198, college: Eckerd) produced 15 points and 7 rebounds for the guests. Lan Mobel ISB's coach Iurgi Caminos gave up on the game allowing to play ten players seeing no chance for a win. Oviedo CB moved-up to second place, which they share with Guadalajara and Lan Mobel ISB. Lan Mobel ISB will play next round against Clinicas Rincon trying to make it back to the top of the standings. Oviedo CB will try to continue on its current victory against ninth ranked Castello in Castellon.
The game had a very big importance for second-ranked Fontedoso Carrefour as it allowed them to take a leadership position. Fontedoso Carrefour smashed bottom-ranked La Palma in Avila 73-44. Naturalized Senegalese center Moussa Diagne (210-94) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 16 points and 12 rebounds. Riley Luettgerodt contributed with 19 points and 5 rebounds for the winners. Mali power forward Bakary Konate (208-93) answered with 13 points and 8 rebounds for La Palma. La Palma's coach Pablo Melo already knew that his team would not have a big chance, so allowed to play ten players seeing no chance for a win. Fontedoso Carrefour have a solid series of four victories in a row. As mentioned above they took over a top position. La Palma at the other side still closes the standings with five games lost. La Palma will have a break next week, which should allow them to rest in order to get back on the winning path. Fontedoso Carrefour will try to continue on its current victory against sixth ranked Aurteneche M. at Vitoria-Gasteiz.
Very important is a road loss of second ranked Aurteneche M. (3-2) against seventh ranked Clinicas Rincon (3-2) on Saturday night. Visiting Aurteneche M. was defeated by Clinicas Rincon in Malaga 78-68. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Aurteneche M.. Maodo Malick stepped up and scored 12 points and 5 rebounds for the winners. Mick Hedgepeth responded with 17 points and 8 rebounds (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field). Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Clinicas Rincon moved-up to fifth place, which they share with defeated Aurteneche M. Clinicas Rincon will meet higher ranked Lan Mobel ISB (#4) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Aurteneche M. will play against the league's leader Fontedoso Carrefour in Avila and hope to secure a win.
Castello can celebrate their first win this season after three consecutive loses. The victory is especially important as it came on the road game in S'Arenal, where they defeated Palma (2-3) 86-72. Luis Parejo nailed 17 points and 5 rebounds for the winning side. Palma's coach Matias Cerda rotated ten players and allowed the starting five to rest. Castello (1-3) left bottom position moving up to ninth place. Palma at the other side, also newcomer in the league, keeps the eighth position with three games lost. Castello's next round opponent will be league's second-placed Oviedo CB at home and it will be quite challenging to get another victory.

In the last game of round 5 Guadalajara defeated Prat Juventud in a road game 75-68.

Palma - Castello 72-86

Castello can celebrate their first win this season after three consecutive loses. The victory is especially important as it came on the road game in S'Arenal, where they defeated Palma (2-3) 86-72. It looked good early as Palma took an 1-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then Castello had a 21-11 second period charge getting the lead and Palma was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 72-86. Castello forced 19 Palma turnovers. 28 personal fouls committed by Palma helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities.
